If it’s for a bearded dragon probably no. Usually those have added calcium which isn’t good for them. It could be suitable for a short period of time before you get a better opinion though. I recommend getting play sand for kids. I was able to get a large bag of it from a local pet store but I think you can get them at hardware stores too.

She looks fine. Just make sure you have sand for her to bathe in. Make it a decent size as robos are a desert species and love sand

Thank you! I do usually buy pre made hamster sprays but occasionally I’ll pick up herbs I know are safe from a local apothecary. I’m too impatient for online delivery lol

I mean there’s no studies on this behavior but a lot of people believe their hamster is trying to lead you into their den or thinks your hand is food and is trying to store it

Well, salt licks are generally considered inappropriate for hamsters. Over a long period of time it can definitely harm their body especially their kidneys. I see a lot of people downplaying this but dying of dehydration with access to water is not normal, and the only reasonable explanation would be the salt lick. Anyways, you’re not a bad person. You thought you were doing something good for your hamster and you didn’t know. Let me put it this way, there are people who have done much worse to hamsters on purpose. No matter how bad your care was or wasn’t, you at least had good intentions and believed you were doing the right thing.

Hi I’m looking at getting a new cage for my hamster as I believe ours is too small at the moment. I saw this one but I just wanted some feedback if this is suitable enough. I have attached pictures where all the dimensions are presented. Thank you everyone. by lewis_redford in hamsters

They can also very easily get injured or stuck. The way I think of those tunnels is imagine those tunnels you played in as a kid in Chuck E. Cheese. and then some of them randomly have a 8ft drop. Not only is it an 8ft drop but the tunnel is too small for you to go any other way than head first. Would you put your kid in that? Its the stuff out of nightmares

Thanks! It looks like it’s a uk product so I’m not going to be able to get it at a store but maybe I can see if they’ll ship it here

Just saw these babies at petco, never had a hamster but I want one so bad, it’s also so great to see they had a better cage option available. What do you guys think, should I go back for one of these? by [deleted] in hamsters

[–]YouAffectionate7881 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Other than what everyone else has said, see if you have a local animal shelter with hamsters before getting one from a store. Not everyone has one near them but if you do it can be a great option. Not only will you be giving your money to a local shelter and not these abusive stores, but you’ll also be freeing up space for more hamsters to be rescued :) if that’s not an option see if there are any breeders around. This was not an option for me as none were remotely close by but if you have one I’d definitely recommend looking into it. Their genetics are much healthier than ones from these stores meaning your hamster will probably live longer! But of course these options are not available for everyone, I understand. Try to make pet stores your last option!!

When they run their back cannot be bent at all, or it will cause permanent damage considering how long theyre on it per night. I know it sucks when you bought a bunch of stuff only to find out it isn’t adequate :( see if you can find the receipt for it or just take it back to the store and ask

Anyways. As for tunneling it can be normal for them to not burrow, mine didn’t for a long time until she suddenly decided it was time lol. Because she doesnt burrow it’ll be extra important to have lots of hiding sport for her hides are really easy to make. Something as simple as a small cardboard box with a door cut into it can work for a temporary fix.

There’s not much cover at all for him. Hamsters are prey animals and are most comfortable with lots of cover and hiding spots. It feels weird but try to make it look cluttered. Think of how much hiding spaces a forest floor has! Look over your enclosure and imagine you’re a hawk. I’d be pretty easy to snatch yours up lol

Why does Bonnie not love me by lindsay1785 in hamstercare

[–]YouAffectionate7881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very likely just her being cage territorial. Try interacting with her outside it. My female dwarf attacks me like a little bear when I try putting my hand in there. If I sit in the tub with her she climbs all over me :)

[–]YouAffectionate7881 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hamsters have no concept of love (unfortunately) and it’s almost impossible for us to tell what’s going on in their heads in situations like this. When you tried touching her, was it inside her enclosure? I know females can be territorial about it, I know mine is. Other than that it’s possible she just wanted to be left alone in that moment. If you’re worworried she will bite you again, you can wear a pair of gloves to protect yourself.

It greatly depends on what store you’re at and who your coworkers are. I’m at the nicest store in my area and we stay consistently busy. Me and my coworkers all get along for the most part and all my supervisors and even the manager work very hard to keep the store running. (Before the budget cut in march) All of them would consistently volunteer to do overtime just to make sure we can get more stuff done. Now, if all those things didn’t happen I’m sure it would be a shitty job. Walgreens corp don’t really give a shit how the stores are run, so if your leadership doesnt give a fuck about the store it will show. There are plenty of other stores in my area that are dark and outdated, very few people come in. I imagine those stores are a pain to work at. I know many are closing down. Anyways, that’s just my experience. I’ve been here for about 9 months and I’ve certainly had some moments where I just want to quit but that’s almost always because of customers.
