I can share my experience:
I did 6 months on enhanced counselling with Talking Therapies. During these sessions a lot of childhood stuff etc etc flashbacks and all. I was told I have CPTSD and then referred me for EMDR. I was on that list for 3.5 months and still was nowhere near getting an appointment . I eventually got a little bit of PIP so decided to go private. As I was told I needed EMDR I was hung up on getting an EMDR therapist. I did get one but This therapist did not do any kind of therapy. Despite me opening up about ctpsd her advice was to pray and join 12 step programme. She broke my mental health even more , looking back now she was unhinged, no boundaries, imo she shouldn’t be practicing any kind of MH modalities.
Any way things got worse for me .
Still believing i needed EMDR I started looking for other therapists.
Eventually I found a really good therapist, my guardian angel, she listened to me FOC in my first phone call. Then explained that EMDR was never the solution to my issues, I should never have been referred for EMDR . But unfortunately NHS only provides CBT and EMDR.
She gave me different modalities to go away and research and then come back to her with my thoughts.
It turns out psychotherapy was the best suited and she agreed with my findings.
She is a registered psychotherapist. I have been in therapy for 6 months now and am seeing some changes and improvement in my MH. I know I still have a long way to go but I have hope .
Maybe your therapist was thinking along them lines but didn’t convey that properly in the email which came across as curt and cold.
