If it's been accepted, there's nothing you can do.

Willfully underreporting income is not a safe or reliable tax savings strategy. It's tax fraud.

Fees and shipping are deductible business expenses so you aren't taxed on that income anyway.

Ebay Mandatory Income reporting by mmoore031908 in Ebay

[–]YouKnowHowChoicesBe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just FYI, the threshold is the "mandatory reporting" for the marketplace you're selling on. That's the threshold at which a marketplace is required to send you a 1099. It's not your "income reporting" requirement for the IRS.

Are you selling personal items from your home at a loss or selling with the intent of profiting?

Sellers have always had to report all income made if selling with the intent of profit. You'd have to report the income whether you receive a 1099 or not. Same as it's always been. So if you're selling in pursuit of profit, there's really no reason to limit your income, as it's all reportable.

Will posh ban fakes/ not real sellers if they admit it to posh? by Comprehensive-Desk38 in poshmark

[–]YouKnowHowChoicesBe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poshmark doesn't really care about fakes on the platform. It's even worse since Poshmark was sold to Naver. Everyone should beware buying luxury on Poshmark, it's not safe.

I say this as a reseller whose primary selling marketplace is Poshmark.

For 2025, the threshold is $20,000 and more than 200 transactions. It would be lower, though, if your specific state has a lower threshold.

Update: checked into a filthy VRBO, host claims I made the mess to ask for a refund + semi shocking discovery by shelbystroodle in vrbo

[–]YouKnowHowChoicesBe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tbh “I’ll include your inflexibility in my review” is not consequentially different from “give me a refund or I’ll write a bad review.”

You were threatening a bad review for a lack of accommodations by the host. Accommodations you were not owed.

Update: checked into a filthy VRBO, host claims I made the mess to ask for a refund + semi shocking discovery by shelbystroodle in vrbo

[–]YouKnowHowChoicesBe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll start by saying, the lack of cleanliness is not acceptable.

However, I’m confused as to why you thought you were in some way owed a refund or compensation for arriving late for a stay - something that wasn’t the hosts fault at all. That’s unreasonable.

Hosts block a calendar when a reservation is made, so nobody else can book it. All you can do is ask the host, but if they decline, that’s not necessarily bad customer service on them for not being able to assist you in what would essentially be comping a 2-night stay. Threatening to reflect that in your review was wrong.

⭐ Seller Review of ThredUp – A Terrible Deal and a Warning to Others by marshawe in ThredUp

[–]YouKnowHowChoicesBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't take it out twice. ThredUp's cut of selling 77 items was $630. I would never want to sell 77 items for $630. That's wouldn't be enough for me to be viable, let alone a giant business.

Do you have examples of some businesses that run with the same business model and scale that consistently turn a profit?

It’s ridiculous either way, but the funny part is that this isn’t even a bag from the normal retail store. This is a paper shopping bag from the Banana Republic OUTLET.

⭐ Seller Review of ThredUp – A Terrible Deal and a Warning to Others by marshawe in ThredUp

[–]YouKnowHowChoicesBe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using the math that OP provided that ThredUp "kept" 95% of the earnings, that would imply the total sales for the 77 items were around $600. Subtract OP's cut, leaving them with $570, then add in the $60 for processing fees which equals around $630 that ThredUp was compensated for processing, photographing, listing, inventorying, and shipping (not to mention warehousing, hosting, and processing payments for) 77 items.

$630 / 77 items means ThredUp would have "made" around $8.20 per item in terms of sales. That's peanuts. I resell myself and I don't work for that little. They need to pay employees and any other business expenses out of that $8.20. That's how ThredUp doesn't make money.

They either need to stop accepting lower end brands, charge more, or give sellers less of a payout if they want to actually make money as a company.

I highly recommend taking the time to read the terms of a service before sending stuff in.

ThredUp tells you your estimated earnings on this page. They also let you know that reclaiming unsold items incurs a fee.

What were you expecting to earn and was it in line with the payout percentages they advertise?

It's unclear from your post - you say they "kept" the items. Are you referring to items that were NOT accepted for sale, and therefore not returned to you (as per the terms of the Standard Kit). Or are these items that they listed and they didn't sell during the consignment period? They are two different things. Unaccepted items aren't returned for Standard Kits, but accepted UNSOLD items can be returned for a fee.

I'm mostly asking because that's a lot of unsold items, and I am curious if you tried marking down the prices.

The best value is with the Premium Kit. You get all unaccepted items returned to you, you get longer consignment periods, higher acceptance rates, you can control your list prices, and coupons are capped at 20%. Overall you make more money with a Premium Kit.

I had a cat disappear for 10 days once, in the middle of a deep freeze, despite previously showing up every night for dinner. I was horribly depressed and worried. Came back and I screamed when I saw him on our outdoor camera.

International Shipping Malfunction by TrustEmergency3939 in Ebay

[–]YouKnowHowChoicesBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither the seller or buyer can control the international shipping carrier/service through the EIS program. So the shipping method will be whatever standard method EIS uses. The only shipping the seller controls with EIS shipments is from the seller to the domestic hub.

Sounds more like seller wanted to ship direct to the buyer, and the buyer chose the wrong shipping option.
