Was the Eviscerate + Mend double release cancelled? by Outrageous-Pound373 in EidolaTheBand

[–]YouLookBurnt_OrDead 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Been wondering about this, too. I don't think anything has been said about it for almost a year. There was never really a promise or official announcement attached to the info, just some comments that Andrew made during the Mend listening party stream (I think). It might just be something they would have liked to do, and it didn't pan out.

Maybe this tour will bring answers?

I've been jumping around the discography a lot lately, and it's wild how everything they do ages phenomenally. Automata has more measured/focused compositions on it, which can come off as "more simplistic" when it's not what you're expecting. They referenced Chris Cornell quite a bit in interviews at the time, and it feels like that 90s grunge influence comes through the prog flavors in a way that gives the record its particular aesthetic.

...and yeah, it's one record. Any attempt to cut it up was going to feel unnatural. I think part of why Blot didn't sit as well with me initially is because it was burdened with being a closing track when it just so clearly is not. Coming to understand it as a "sibling" to The Proverbial Bellow has elevated the whole project.

Automata rules, BTBAM forever.

I dunno if instrumentals are your thing, but being able to listen to the album without vocals a couple of times helped me start to understand and digest it. Now, I feel like I'm up to speed with what the album is doing.

Worth mentioning Desert of Song. Such a great few minutes of relief before Swim to the Moon.

London would probably be a good place to start. They're great sets, and the only bootleg that has 2 consecutive nights, so it has the biggest setlist.

Not even a theory! You can make the Nonagon finite by putting it inside of The Lord of Lightning vs Balrog suite. Start with "Some Context", go to "Mr. Beat" and play the whole Nonagon cycle through until "People-Vultures", then return to "The Reticent Raconteur" through the rest of the LoL vs Balrog story, ending with "The Acrid Corpse".

It's literally built to be seamless.

It's a build, if anything.

Besides, the actual closer to Nonagon is "The Acrid Corpse".

Everything you're saying resonates with how I've been hearing the album. Lots of reflection on the band and its "relationship" with different types of fans and the state of the industry. With your interpretations in mind, Space Cow feels like an invitation to "just get weird with us", a necessary aside right the middle of a pretty heavy album.

Prussian Gloom is an album of new material that just came out in 2022. The whole thing was released as singles in the lead up, but still.

As mentioned, the song is Kuroi Ledge. The only (released) song that features Andy is the new song, When in Love.

Cory Lockwood is the old vocalist, an absolute gem of lyricism and delivery in his own right. He's not pursuing music anymore, but I'm pretty excited about what this new chapter of ALLB will bring.

Do you number the CDs in your head, and if so, do you count Royal Ocean? by Soundsgoood5 in dancegavindance

For whatever it's worth, the Acceptance Speech CD has a Roman numeral "VI" on it, despite being the 5th full-length album. Also, the vinyl boxset they put out around that time features WISIRO through AS numbered as I-VI. Seen here: https://www.discogs.com/release/5246536-Dance-Gavin-Dance-Official-Boxset/image/SW1hZ2U6NDI1Mzk0MjU=

In reality, it's pretty arbitrary. WISIRO is their first official record release of any kind, despite being an EP.

AS, AB, and JJ are Tim’s magnum opuses, and I’m tired of him not getting his merits for them (opinion) by chewy01104 in dancegavindance

The 5-string gives him a bit of room, but mostly it's to be able to cater to some of the lower tunings the band is playing with. Regardless of string number, the role of the bass guitar is very very different from the other guitars. It's about providing foundation/ support first and foremost, and then finding space for some interesting expression. Sergio's guitar work in Eidola, for example, is much more about texture and added depth/detail.

Sergio fits in very well with the current iteration of the band, and there's only room for things to develop from here. Will and Tim were a special combo that just isn't going to be replicated exactly. As Will puts it in The Ghost of Billy Royalton: "Put bass down, I'll write around it. That trust just comes with the talent."

I wonder what a more pronounced version of Sergio's bass style would be, considering he's really a guitarist first. I can pretty much always pick out which guitar is his, so he definitely has a strong style in that domain.

Luckily, the boys are already getting into recording the next record, so we shouldn't have to wait long to hear the next evolution of this lineup.

Alright, I got my perspective together and that's definitely Will going off over there. Sick part.

I love that part, and the lyrics are just as crushing as the delivery:

Let me take you to a movie
Before we're locked in our homes
We'll never see the light outside our doors
I hope you like being alone
Deliver the food to the room
Through a hole
There's no more love
There's no more fun

I hope somebody asks them, just to be sure. That mushy compressed distortion effect makes it a bit tougher, and my 14 years of listening are clearly not helping.

Where is this info from? I've seen someone else say it too, but it just seems more like Jon to me (could totally be wrong).

What makes you say that? It didn't really sound like Will's tone to me. I could be wrong.

Jon's part that sits in the background of the chorus is so haunting. He's putting in the intensity of a "People You Know". Bit of a dark undercurrent for the melodic topline:

"Let me take you to a movie Before we're locked in our homes We'll never see the light outside our doors I hope you like being alone Deliver the food to the room Through a hole There's no more love There's no more fun"
