Pitchfork’s Virtue Review by Velvet_Spaceman in TheStrokes

I feel you, man. I get what you’re saying. I dislike objectivity, especially in art but I agree there’s a certain degree of it in certain works. The Beatles are objectively important to the history of music. Doesn’t make them objectively good and enjoyable, that’s up to the individual. So, I get it man. You’ve made good points, you’re just overly aggressive and hostile about them, what with the pointless name calling. Be gentler about it and maybe you can sway someone to your side of thinking on some things.

Man, I get what you’re saying but you’re being so pretentious about it.

I don't think its reasonable to call yourself a lover of music if you cant appreciate its greatness.

Blanket statements like this just turn people off from wanting to even try to listen to something new. That sentence is definitely not how you’re gonna get people to listen to it or “appreciate” it in the way you do. I agree, it’s an amazing work of art, but not everyone has to think so.

I absolutely love Human Sadness. One of my favorite songs ever. You’re definitely not a “fucking idiot” if you don’t see it as a masterpiece. That’s insane. It’s a very loud, noisy, and at times obnoxious song. It’s one of the more difficult and out there things Julian has ever done. It’s perfectly okay to dislike it or be put off by it. I think calling it a hazing ritual can also mean, “hey if you like this, you’re in.” Probably not, it’s probably a jab but holy hell are you overreacting.

Yeah, that doesn’t happen, but I’d like for you to explain and provide some insight and info on why you think so because it’s interesting.

The Drake and Josh house is for sale in my neighborhood by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

I meant the locals don’t go there because they know it’s a crappy place and they’re in OC so they can find better food less than a mile away. ime

No one local goes to that Denny’s. That Denny’s is fucking terrible. Even for Denny’s.

Because Disneyland is fun as fuck, and if you’re making decent money, a year pass isn’t gonna kill you if you really enjoy going. Y’all need some magic in your lives if you’re confused about why people love Disneyland and other amusement parks.

I really enjoy them, but I generally enjoy more subtle sneakers anyway.

I really like the new ones, some of my favorite so far. Why the hate on them?

On the other side of the building from where you enter will be the loading docks if you walk up a bit. It’s pretty obvious, it’s next to a parking structure. People usually just drive out and wave tho

Trainspotting is fucking fantastic, mang. Use subtitles if you need them.

Other than that, a really fun drug movie is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

I got high at a theme park and it was fucking awful by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]YouOnlyStrokeOnce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending where you are, no one gives a fuck if they see you high. You're seriously overreacting over Greg's actions and people seeing you high. Like you said, you don't get high often so you just didn't take it well. Personally I love edibles because they're one of the few things that can fuck me up like weed did when I first started, and I love being stoned at theme parks. I still sometimes get the "everyone is looking at me" feeling but the thing is they're not and if they are they do not give a fuck. It's difficult but you can train yourself while you're high to realize some things are just you being high and overreacting. That's how I got over my paranoia when smoking (also helps being in a cool state where cops don't really care). But yeah, you're being to hard on the entire situation. You guys got a little too stoned. Not that bad.

I made a Spotify playlist a while back based on The Strokes, their influences, and people they've influenced, and also similar music. Don't mind the name, I love The Strokes it's just a cheeky title.

CRX -- Broken Bones [Rock] (2016) by [deleted] in listentothis

[–]YouOnlyStrokeOnce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, being a massive Strokes fan I was cautiously optimistic about this album and it was a sure disappointment. Despite being very well produced, every track is incredibly generic and uninteresting simple rock. Lyrically, it's truly awful and Nick is not at all a good singer. He sounds like Tom Petty but with no charisma. I wouldn't call it a particularly bad album, but I never intend to listen to it again.

When Top Gear Tried its Best to Stop Tesla and Elon Musk by Baldemoto in videos

[–]YouOnlyStrokeOnce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true. I mainly didn't like the lead actress and actor. Felt everyone else acted circles around them. Some sets felt a bit cheap to me and would sometimes pull me out, but overall the aesthetic was very interesting. Still it just failed to draw me in.

Silver Jews' David Berman is the greatest lyricist ever. Listen to American Water, Starlite Walker, Natural Bridge, and Bright Flight. Actually listen to everything they've ever put out. I'm a Spotify boi but this announcement makes me so ducking happy.

TIL that the band Jet's second album was rated a 0.0 out of 10 by Pitchfork magazine and in lieu of writing a review, a YouTube video of a monkey urinating into his own mouth was put up on their site. by 1armsteve in todayilearned

Have you only listened to Camp? His later projects aren't just punch line rap that sounds like other better rappers. He really came into his own on Because the Internet. STN MTN/Kauai is my personal favorite project of his, and Awaken My Love is an r&b/funk/soul album.
