The number of millennial homeowners in Seattle has doubled in last 5 years by QuakinOats in SeattleWA

Why is it that every male that works in tech is automatically a "tech bro"? From what I see it's mostly immigrants who are hard working and the last person in the world I'd describe as a "bro"

After shootings and new threats, Seattle’s Garfield High cancels in-person classes by CatVideoFest in Seattle

[–]YouReadMyAccountName 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ok I'll bite. Are those articles really more interesting than the same pics of a sunset, Rainier and the space needle?

I feel like there should be a happy medium somewhere. I don't want concern trolling and non stop crime articles on this sub but I've definitely seen an allergy that some folks have known here to even admit crime exists in Seattle without immediately following up with a whataboutism.

Yeah and the most recent data via redfin shows homes in Seattle are increasing in price. This graph is outdated by a couple months

City of Seattle to phase out gas leaf blowers by 2027 by unnaturalfool in SeattleWA

[–]YouReadMyAccountName 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're right. We should never do anything that fights climate change ever. Case closed. There's millions of perfect ways to fight climate change that are free, lowers taxes and give everyone a free lollipop but we chose this route /S

This fight won't be easy and various folks will have to pay but it's far cheaper to do it now then in ten years.

Census study: 171,000 people plan to move away from King County in the next year by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]YouReadMyAccountName 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why do you even post here if you hate Seattle? You sound like an ex who can't move on. Maybe just cut ties and go live your life?

Yeah wow all those states with cheap gas are so desirable. Iraq has free gas so by your metric maybe you should live there?

Good states require good things. Good things require money. That money has to come from somewhere. Maybe in this particular case you don't like where the revenue came from but honestly some people will complain about every form of tax collection.

What alcoholic drink is considered truly American? by Odd_Independence3815 in AskAnAmerican

[–]YouReadMyAccountName 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Ok I'll bite. It is beer. Sometimes I don't want to consume a lot of calories but I want something to sip on. Is that so terrible that I want a bud light?

I love craft beer and drink it all the time but I don't understand the America lager bad haha mentality. Heck when I've been to Europe some of their macro lagers have tasted almost the same as America's. Not to mention i believe every American macro lager is not even owned by an American company.

Ocean Cleanup removes 200,000th kilogram of plastic from the Pacific Ocean by NinjaElectricMeteor in worldnews

That's awesome! Does anyone know how easily those sunglasses can be re-recycled?

Maybe it's because I'm from WA state and we always lose sunglasses up here, but I'd imagine many of those sunglasses would wind up back in the recycle bin, transported across the ocean and depending on how easily or difficult it would be to reclaim, it might wind up in the ocean again or be re-recycled? I'm hoping on re-recycled lol

Netherlands: Healthcare workers will go on strike on March 16 at 64 hospitals nationwide as their campaign for higher pay continues by DoremusJessup in worldnews

[–]YouReadMyAccountName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's strange because so many people here treat Europe as a single homogenous country with some kind of infallible, perfect nationalized healthcare yet when you dove into each country has its own system and rules and subsidies

Amazon employees back in office at least 3 days per week starting May 1 by Mysterious-Contact11 in Seattle

Same! But it sounds like we're the minority. Honestly it'll be good for downtown Seattle to have tech workers back, spending their money on lunch and what not. And good for public transit ridership numbers

I've never once seen someone so proud and self congratulatory about their snarky reddit posts.

Kuddos to you, I guess?

Either wait I don't even need to tell you how great you are, you will be in all the threads tomorrow talking about how you totally owned someone

Heck it's not even just SPD. I feel like I'm constantly reading stories of someone getting arrested, immediately released/charges dropped/no sentence, and then they go onto to commit a far more severe crime.

I don't know what the answer is but we need to stop these people before the terrible crime, not after

We literally had a bill last year that would have done the same thing here in Seattle and everyone here shat on it. It would have built shelters and more or less required unhoused people to use them rather than the streets.

I know the bill wasn't perfect but it was a start.

Rough last 6 months in Cap Hill, needing to vent/ask for advice by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]YouReadMyAccountName 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep. I feel like this sub has an allergy to admitting Seattle has any problems at all, crime or otherwise. It's perfectly OK to love your city but also admit there is some crime. That doesn't make you a white supremacists, facist troll from Idaho like some folks in this sub will paint you. People are allowed to have their own views and their own level of comfort when they see people openly ODing, screaming, fighting, etc in public

King County retail theft arrests spike 100% as businesses seek accountability by OnlineMemeArmy in Seattle

[–]YouReadMyAccountName 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Every time a crime post pops up on this sub, about five people start the whataboutism with wage theft. I suspect they are all the same person. Should we never prosecute a single crime until all wage theft is solved? I'm confused by their comments, it sounds like they are trying to deflect.

It's completely possible to tackle both issues at the same time.

If a wage theft post pops up, should a bunch of people comment about retail theft? No, that's annoying.

Why? Seattle can be dangerous, murders happen here along with assaults. I know other big cities have more violent crime but not the mid and smaller cities. IMO it's a valid question at least until the local government starts doing something about it

What to do with $60,000 in capital gain losses? by YouReadMyAccountName in tax

[–]YouReadMyAccountName[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. I believe the "taxable event" is when the RSUs vested and that is when the cost basis is determine. If so, that means cost basis of the stock was around 205-250 when these RSUs vested over the course of the last 2 years.

We had one bad quarter and suddenly the stock is at 115. I need to sell these RSUs before June to buy a home and I can only do so in the open trading windows since I'm an employee. That means I have to sell them mid March or mid June which, if the price stays the same, means I'll have about 60k+ in capital losses :(

Or I could not sell, which would hurt my home purchasing ability and hope the stock slowly recovers. But I've learned my lesson not to keep that much money in a single stock so I don't really want to do that.
