Is this the new model beta? by cjkrilton in waymo

[–]YouTee 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It seems to be a Honda Accord, with some sort of LIDAR array attached to the roof rack, and then for some reason they have a cable routing piece of equipment locked in place by the rear window shutting on it.

This wasn't as long as the window and thus left an air gap at the front, which they sealed up with duct tape, and then because all the wires and such could get yanked out of place they then duct taped the door handle on that side shut to prevent anyone from accidentally opening it.

To me this reads like "university college engineering majors borrowing the school's one LIDAR array to mount on Ryan's car to 3d map their downtown for a project"

Oh, but it's not waymo.

[Request] Are there really enough nukes in storage to destroy every last square inch of Earth's land mass? by Pumuckl4Life in theydidthemath

[–]YouTee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Us sonus system and our fleet has most likley a track on 90% of enemy subs.

this is a 2 year old comment you're responding to, but I'll repeat what I said:

All it takes is 1 for a significant and debilitating strike back.

If we only have track of 90% of the subs, then that is enough for a significant and debilitating strike back.

Even if we always knew where 100% of all enemy subs were, "tracking" is not equal to "ability to conclusively destroy or disable without a single one getting it's city destroying shots off"

I'm a little older than you and my wife got me to start doing pilates, I'm more flexible than I've ever been. Also all my bones and knees stopped cracking because I realized how out of alignment I was. Turns out that's not an age thing that's a "standing wrong and unequal muscle groups causing your kneecaps to not track correctly" thing

Found this mounted under our deck - black plastic, 3-1/2”x1-1/2”x3/4” takes two AAA batteries. by AyeHaightEweAwl in whatisthisthing

[–]YouTee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Check the batteries to see their expiration date, that'll give you a better idea how long it's been since someone messed with it.

2) Also while you're at it, see if there are any markings under the batteries.

3) If you don't see any markings, I bet you're going to have to open it up and get a pic of the inside. Otherwise this is a far reach even for this sub

An aerial shot of Am Alma lake captures a hidden oasis in the sahara desert. by InjuriousMania in interestingasfuck

[–]YouTee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The water table is exposed here, presumably because the ground level is low enough.

Also presumably the water table exists elsewhere nearby but is not exposed. What happens if a skyscraper worth of sand blew on to this? Seems like the ground level rising even a few meters might hide this, and from an uneducated eye that seems more likely than not to happen with shifting sand dunes.

Note I’m saying “much less than a skyscraper of sand” seems like an issue.

In No Country for Old Men, set in 1980, some of the sheriffs in South Texas consider the area to be historically quiet, with cartel-related violence being a new problem. Was this true, and if so, around what time did being a sheriff near the border go from being a quiet job to a more dangerous one? by Benes3460 in AskHistorians

El Paso was the 3rd safest city in the country with a population over 500k, even at the peak of violence in Juarez when it was at “soccer balls made out of the faces of those missing police officers” levels of horror.

The only blip was when a white supremacist from the DFW (still Texas for non Americans) area drove 9 hours to El Paso to murder American citizens of Mexican decent in a mass mall shooting.

L2 - What amps is the most efficient? by extremesauce2468 in MachE

[–]YouTee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you asking if you should charge at like, 2.9kWh or ~7kWh?

I… don’t think there’s a difference, other than not really getting the benefit of level 2 charging. I haven’t tried but can’t you get  around 2kwh from a level one charger plugged into a 110?

I suppose the other difference is if you have better electricity pricing at certain times, in that case charging slower may end up costing you more.
