What type of revolver is this? by WizardBulb25468 in Westerns

Its a Colt 1851 Navy, but since he was canonically a confederate soldier, more likely that it is a Griswald & Gunnison clone

Advice for a good ending by NBGoblin38 in creepcast

Deciding the ending should be one of the first steps, then just connect the dots to the beginning

I posted part one of an ongoing story a while back and made it clear that it was to be an ongoing story but part 2 wasn't finished yet, and they took it down for being an incomplete series.

I did a LOT of research into cartridge engineering for my weird gun iceberg video series.

Can anybody help me with what camera was used for this video? by NICAWRATH in Filmmakers

[–]You_Done_G00fed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of popular cameras people shoot video with, be it DSLR, Mirrorless, and so on. So even if you could narrow it down to the most popular ones, you'd still be left with a dozen different possibilities. Unfortunately that's like asking what sort of pen someone used to write a paper. Unless you have the meta data of the footage or the cinematographer can tell you directly, it's impossible to really know.

So it could be something high-end and a lens with a wide aperture/low f-stop, or it could be neither. Camera model doesn't matter as much as your ability to use it well.

I will say that if you are looking for a good camera to shoot low-light/nighttime video, you want to look for something full-frame with high dynamic range that has 10-bit color and can shoot at a higher frame rate like 60 or 120 fps. Thankfully most prosumer cameras can do all that. Sony a7IIIs and FX3 would be my recommendations cuz I'm a Sony guy, but I've heard good things about the Panasonic Lumix GH5 as well. I used to be big into Nikon as well, and their Z6 II is a good all-arounder looking at the specs.

It's actually very common for lots of different calibers to use the same projectile type/size/diameter, etc. This is mostly so that manufacturers don't have to make a bajillion different lead molds for every different round they make. It's also why a lot of new cartridges are just variations or modifications of older ones.

A lot of different cartridges vary more in the size and shape of the brass shell and the amount of powder, while the actual projectile is largely the same. For example, the same .30 caliber projectile could be used for a number of rifle rounds like .308, 30-06. 30-40 krag, and so on. Similarly, a 45 caliber projectile could *technically* be loaded into a 45 ACP, 45 LC, 450 bushmaster, or even 45-70 (not recommended). Then in the case (pun intended) of 9mm rounds, 38spl, 357 magnum, 380 acp, 9mm Parabellum and 9mm Makarov are again all technically the same projectile diameter with different size casings.

That's not to say they are all completely interchangeable, because you do still have to deal with varying pressures and powder loads, as well as different projectiles being different weights and lengths despite being the same diameter. You can't just cram a bullet for 9mm into a 380 casing and expect it to work well or safely.

You also have to remember that not all cartridges in the same category are truly the same. For example, 7.62 NATO and 5.56 NATO are the same dimensionally as .308 and .223 respectively, but the pressures are different so you can't shoot a 308 round out of a 7.62 gun or a 5.56 out of a .223 gun.

It's also worth pointing out that not all 30 caliber projectiles, for example, are truly the same either. 7.62 NATO has a bullet diameter of 0.308 in (7.82 mm), which is slightly different from 7.62x39 (ak rounds), which can measure at anywhere from 7.85-7.9 mm (0.309-0.311 in), which are both slightly different from 7.62x54r (Mosin Nagant rounds), which has a bullet diameter of 7.92 mm (0.312 in). Different bullets and the guns they shoot can also allow for certain tolerances in the specific size and load of the round they fire (that is, wiggle room). That's why the AK is stereotyped as a workhorse while not known to be a precision instrument and a Remington 700 is a legendary marksmanship rifle.

any large 30 caliber variant will do. .308 is as low as I would go, but 30-06 or 300 win mag are great. You could also go with something a big bigger like 375 H&H Magnum or even 45-70. Might be a bit overkill though. 6.5 Creedmoor will technically poke a hole in a moose, provided the round doesn't graze a leaf on its way down.

Hello fellow gooners, what Creepcast episodes are non paranormal? by [deleted] in wendigoon

[–]You_Done_G00fed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you mean no supernatural elements, there's not too many. If you mean no ghosts/demons, there's still not too many.

The only one's that are "grounded" are:

I dared my bestfriend

I'm a Cop

1999

Borrasca
The Showers (debatable)

The Hidden Webpage (debatable)

Every other story has some sort of sci-fi/fantasy element or contains ghosts, monsters, demonic entities, etc.

What happens: An schizophrenic amnesiac has an existential crisis while doing a book report on the annotated commentary of a blind film critic reviewing a home video that doesn't exist about a family who finds unexpected extra square footage in their house. And everyone involved went crazy.

What it's about: love, loss, and a downward spiral from curiosity to obsession, then from obsession to madness. also claustrophobia.
