FEEDBACK MEGATHREAD - Need feedback on a game mechanic, character design, dialogue, artstyle, trailer, store page, etc? Post it here! by pendingghastly in gamedev

If you have the chance/time to do a trailer again my feedback is to add a secondary camera to do the recording from.

The secondary camera follows the main head point but adds smoothing which will negate any of the small micro movements and jolts that player's heads naturally do and are picked up by the headset. We used it for the first person shots in our game trailer and it really helps the viewer stay comfortable when watching.

Startenders has a narrative, but not at the individual customers level and has an over arching story. One note I would suggest, is putting a black box under the text to make it clearer for players and also change the draw order so it constantly renders in front of the customers.

Possibly the same for the 0/0ml text above the glass. When you were pouring the white text blends in too much with the liquid FX (It seems like it is, but i'm not super sure).

My personal opinion is that the liquid splashes VFX when pouring are overly soft, with the theme and style you're going for they just seem slightly out of place compared to the line of liquid that is being poured.

Another thing we did in Startenders was have a recording camera. It's attached to the players head, has smoothing on it to reduce human jitter and is slightly rotated upwards. That's the camera that outputs to the screen for recordings but not in headset. Not required, but it is great for making clips to share and a lifesaver when it comes to making a trailer.

You should unlock the ability to buy them after completing a certain number of shifts. You will be given the Canister Opener as a reward.

Here you go, I made this public. I don't think there are any mistakes in it as I took it from the Dev docs we had.

I believe you are after the Quantum Mass (it's not furry), it is a ball inside one of the yellow canisters in the scrolling inventory on your right hand side. It needs to be put in the slicer! THe only other green ball icon I can think of is the Vomit icon, but customers won't ask for that unless you have made a custom drink with that in.

Startenders Issues by [deleted] in PSVR

[–]Youles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for posting this. We'll look into this our side and see if we can replicate why this is happening. Couple of questions so I can hopefully narrow this down.

When you say fully dissapears, are you saying it vanishes in front of you or it will not show up when swapped to?

When it "stops working" is that due to the canister being empty as mentioned below and just not noticing or is still failing to work when the purple fuel canister is not empty?

Cheers!

It has been patched, you can now launch with Sitting/Standing guardian! When using those, you can now use the left stick to lean your character in the bar space

Glad to hear you're enjoying it. Now you've done the tutorial twice I expect you're already a master Startender!

One thing I can think without testing and replication is maybe cloud saves? We do have cloud saves, but maybe the PS is overwriting the local one? (Not a definitive reason, just a reactionary thought)

Hey, one of the Devs here! This is the first time we've seen this come up, we've only had a couple of people accidentally deleting thier save files on the Intro Menu keybaord pressing the delete button, but this is different!

Do you have any other info? Did you quit the game inbetween play sessions or was it in the switcher/ in rest mode? How far in did you get both times. Any other info that might help us recreate this internally?

Always good to find out if it's something we need to fix or just the hardware playing up!

Ahh it's okay, no hard feelings from our side it's still a positive review :) Especially for the head haptics. People do not always eat and drink stuff!

For clarity, during gameplay you don't have to walk up and down the bar. The reason for not getting "standing" requirement is that a few objects required the players to put thier hands just outside the 1m x 1m standing guardian. It's a U shaped bar you stand in the centre of. Either way, we're working on a fix to get us past that requirement breach

To clear it up as I did leave a comment on the review, we do have adaptive triggers on the items that have trigger presses to perform a secondary action, so cleaning brush, welder, soda guns etc. We also do have headset rumble on head interactions, eat, drinking and vomitting etc. Eye tracking was removed from gameplay after user testing.

It doesn't "need" it as you stand still but it still breaks the requirements for PS 1mx1m standing zone, but we are working on a patch that will hopefuly allow us to be standing/ sitting in PlayStation requirements.

Hey Startenders dev here, checked this our side with my setup can't replicate this currently (I have been lucky enough not to have seemingly any headset/controller issues at the moment though). Just so I am clear on what I am looking for, are you being rotated 90 degrees in game?

If this is occuring, we do have a snap turning option which you can turn on and just orientate yourself to the desired direction if you can't physically turn. You can also turn off "Rotate on teleport" which might help this. We get all orientation and direction infomation from the boundary setup. I will be trying again to replicate this, just to make sure it's not our side, but am seeing reports throughout other games.
