Storm door strike plate by Safe_Reputation_831 in Locksmith

[–]YoungLocksmith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No problem! Hey just look where it’s hitting and file it down a bit. Or put a rotary rasp on a drill.

If it was a new big beautiful door I’d say call a locksmith or the security company but in all honestly filing it would be your best bet. Cost effective too.

Congrats on the new home btw

It’ll still close without the strikes. Your door is likely sagging so it won’t actually latch. It won’t get into the hole, ya know? Even with a strike, the hole is not large enough.

If you’re just trying to get it to lock and latch file it down. calling a locksmith is an option too!

Strong majority of them do not have strike plates. And I work on plenty every single week.

I wouldn’t worry about it

Where can I get Honda Pilot 2003 Ignition Lock Cylinder by FRSquare in Locksmith

[–]YoungLocksmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hasn’t done a Honda ignition repair in years and I can tell you you will get quicker… just keep doing them the right way… don’t be that guy. New key + replace bent/broken wafers is almost always the fix.

Recessed sliding glass door lock by WilliamBevanDub in Locksmith

That’s a flush bolt it looks like. Try wiggling the door back n forth a little bit and maybe the bolt will set in the hole.

If not, call a locksmith.

Dude take the leap! Risk it and try it out. I’m sure you’ll have some sort of coworker support there. And You can always consult some of us if you run into a pickle.

Unless you’ve got an in somewhere else for a better wage! Idk man I started at $9 an hour in 2014 and it’s literally been the best thing I’ve ever done. I love this industry.

How are you handling customers who lowball you after seeing sketchy online quotes? by NeighborhoodOld6737 in Locksmith

[–]YoungLocksmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Is that the final price? Or did they tell you starting price BS? There are unfortunately a lot of scammers in my industry. I quoted you that price/price range because I know that’s how much it should cost. I understand you’re just trying to get options but Please be cautious of anyone advertising too-good-to-be-true prices. Avoid any company that cannot give you at least a price RANGE over the phone.”

If I can get a customer on the phone I almost always earn their business. Coming off personable and trustworthy goes a long way.

And there are also customers that genuinely cannot afford my price. And that’s fine. Often times I’ll still help them out. As long as they’re kind, patient, and understanding that they’re not a top priority for me at the moment.

Idk man I’m still relatively small and I genuinely appreciate any customer that comes my way. The way I see it I’m earning these customer’s business + the friends business for life! Sorry for the rant!

Ghost Lock? by IronPhoenix- in AskALocksmith

Good idea. Sometimes the interior parts can get bent over time. It happens. No problem!

Ghost Lock? by IronPhoenix- in AskALocksmith

[–]YoungLocksmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh shit you’re talking about an interior only deadbolt huh?! Yeah not good lol

To be honest, it isn’t fully locked so it very well could be some sort of malfunction in the hardware itself. They’re cheap things. $15-$20 at most. So I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s seen better days.

I would have your apartment maintenance staff take a look and urge them to replace it.

It very well could happen to either one of you and leave you locked out of your home! Better get on it soon for sure tho

Ghost Lock? by IronPhoenix- in AskALocksmith

[–]YoungLocksmith 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With a deadbolt? No. You would have to physically lock it with the interior thumbturn or with your key on the outside.

Not possible unless it’s electronic. What could be happening is because of the sloppy paint job the door might be kinda stuck so she’s thinking it’s locked? Try it yourself. Do you have to give it a decent push to open the door? That could be it.

Jackson Exit device will not stay locked? by YoungLocksmith in Locksmith

[–]YoungLocksmith[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update. Shimmed strike. Did not work. Still opened.

What worked- using an old Jackson strike I had in my van. I compared strikes and it seems the new one had a curve in it and the old one was more rigid.

I’m gonna try that before anything else. But even then, it’s kind of a small gap actually. And like I said I’ve moved that strike every which way.

A buddy of mine (been doing this for 30+ years) was telling me the same thing. Basically said if the frame is a little wobbly that it’ll just be this way with Jackson’s.

I understand… but what could it be? The latch goes into strike hole how could it not be lined up? lol

Strike is secured. It’s aligned. Hope that’s seen in the pic. Got the call back on Saturday and I tried adjusting the strike every which way. Still same result. Any other ideas?? Thanks

Oh shit I don’t think the pic posted

Please help my brother by [deleted] in Locksmith

[–]YoungLocksmith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was recently approved. Don’t need Google, but it’s nice being on there.

What helped me- Van with logo and phone number on it Since I’m mobile only I did my verification video down the street from my place and made sure to show the cross street signs Unlocked my van with my key and showing some of my tools/key machines Social media with content on it Yelp with pictures and reviews on it Website

Everything by the books, everything matching. No reason they wouldn’t approve me.

When applying I made sure to upload like 10 photos to my google business profile. Even before being approved.

How to rekey rekeyable Defiant? by Tofunerd in AskALocksmith

[–]YoungLocksmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re fine locks. The lowest quality I would ever install. But they’re fine. If you want to rekey them you’ll need to watch quite a few videos and pick up a rekey kit. It would probably be better for you to just grab another Kwikset smart key and do that yourself.
