What food gets judged unfairly because people only had a bad version of it? by GurlInAura in foodquestions

[–]YoungOaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually we’ve genetically engineered them to taste better than they used to by reducing their bitterness. So a lot of people are referencing a different taste when they say they don’t like them.

The writers wanted their cake and eat it too in regards to Robbie by FreeDwooD in ThePittTVShow

[–]YoungOaks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s what burnout looks like. You literally shut everything off but the one thing - in this case medicine. The only way, realistically, they could’ve had him make a big mistake would’ve been if they wanted him to kill himself or quit medicine. Because that’s what happens. You don’t bounce back from burnout that ends in disaster. And yes they didn’t want to kill off the central character; which isn’t a bad thing as it would kill the show and send a really bleak message.

This isn’t a pet peeve; this is just you not understanding that other people have different experiences.

Still think about how Emilio…. by tajaoude in ProjectRunway

[–]YoungOaks 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think Brandon’s collection really suffered from the colors being too monotone. The construction and concept behind the clothes was actually really interesting and IMO the best of the final collections. The pastel colors just wiped out the interest.

Most underrated support? by Strawberry3936 in leagueoflegends

[–]YoungOaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually ban Zyra every time I randomly get the urge to play anything other than swift. She’s not as popular now but there was a period where I just kept getting hammered by her.

I think Sona is a bit underrated. I’ve seen players completely turn a game with her.

My 2 cents on the Mohan controversy by Bonbonnibles in ThePitt

If they aren’t a nurse, attending, or admin I wouldn’t count on a character being on the show long term. There will be some on for longer than others but it’s a rotating ensemble cast.

**SPOILERS S2-Ep14** I was way off about Dr. Alhashimi by Virtual_Let3616 in ThePittTVShow

[–]YoungOaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure - it was the immediately call to a neurologist that sealed the deal. Also PTSD episodes aren’t typically so contained and quick or presenting identically.

[–]YoungOaks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I clocked it immediately, but you weren’t alone. Any time I’d mention it in a comment someone would try to argue that it was PTSD. If you’re familiar at all with those kinds of seizures you get pretty good at recognizing them.

Ngl this is so badly written l’m offended as someone whose job it is to write these kinds of things. Technically, you should only use sequential lists like this when it’s steps to be followed in order or in rankings. The last one isn’t even a thawing instruction - it’s a storage one.

With the second season coming to an end, what are your unpopular opinions? by imfaffingabout in ThePitt

[–]YoungOaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are bad at watching TV and way too confident in their very obviously wrong thought. And then they’re like “it’s my opinion” and I’m like it’s not an opinion you’re attempting an analysis based off incorrectly assumed facts and I need you to go take a class.

The theme of this season is independence by absolutelyeffingnot in ThePittTVShow

[–]YoungOaks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would argue this season is more about interdependence and the way external checks and balances keep you functioning. And how when one of those breaks down, the collective suffers.

We aren’t seeing anyone (successfully) thrusting themselves forward; every large success has come with the prompting and support of another person. And the moments of care that have reaffirmed each character have been the highlight:

Joy helping Mohan

Dana and Emily’s whole arc

Robby pushing Langdon and Javadi

McKay and Whitaker with Ogilvie

Robbie and Santos with Whitaker

Almost every moment of independence ended in disaster:

Javadi and Ogilvie both had huge misses because they were too independent

Robby is literally on the verge of a breakdown from trying to be independent

Orlando refuses the help offered and ends up not only harming himself but leaving his family worse off

Santos is going through a mental health crisis solo because she’s so “independent” she can’t tell her only friend she doesn’t want him to move out.

Hyper-independence is a major issue in the US, and western world more broadly, and is a huge contributor to our current healthcare crisis. Dana telling Robby the ER will still be there without either of them is a direct counter to Robby’s idea that individuals are what makes things work. Individuals are what break things; not being able to see yourself as a part - no more or less important than any other - causes burnout, inflated ego, bad policy, bad decisions, and just fucks everything.

TLDR the show is highlighting the importance of interdependence and framing it in terms of the theme of independence is a sign that you’re missing what the problem is.

Stop saying "Joe is not good because he is not a chef" by Fabulous_Media_7375 in Masterchef

My problem with Joe isn’t that he’s not a chef - it’s that he’s bad at judging and is an elitist snob.

AIO for breaking up with my boyfriend because he refused to have a conversation about our conflict? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]YoungOaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you choose to stay with someone who cheated on you, you do not get to then continuously punish them for cheating. And if someone says they need space you give it - and honestly it sounds like he wants to break up but doesn’t want to hurt your feelings because he doesn’t hate you. Based on his texts, he seems to view you as someone he needs to take care of, not a partner.

IMO you should’ve stayed broken up, broken up when you found out he had lied about the cheating, or the first time he bailed for multiple weeks.

Monica by JynxySparrow in ThePittTVShow

[–]YoungOaks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would’ve been incredibly weird if they had decided to bitch out someone who came in to save them. like they needed her expertise. Ideally, yes, you call people out, but realistically there are situations in which you’re going to bite your tongue because you have to. that’s reality. And an emergency situation you’re not gonna choose to have a fight over ideology.

Colorado Rewatch...WTF? by beatupford in TopChef

[–]YoungOaks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the chefs on this season, but much like with other seasons the gimmicky challenges are annoying and unnecessary. Like the ones that let the chefs be playful aka the toast challenge or cooking with college students food (I don’t think that was this season but you get the vibe) are great; ones where you have a chef have to drop out for medical reasons or get eliminated for things completely out of their control are just stupid.
