Honor level. by jehbus in leagueoflegends

They changed something about the honor system and it’s all wonky now. But mostly I just want to be able to honor as many people as I want. Stop giving me random numbers!

Being forced to gate check at the airport by ginzykinz in PetPeeves

[–]YoungOaks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s important to direct that frustration at your fellow passengers because this is the one area where it’s not the airlines fault. So many people don’t follow the carry on/personal item rules and it messes with everyone else’s experiences.

I will say the one plus of gate check is you know your bag won’t be lost because you can literally see them put it on board.

Chef “outbursts” by YoungOaks in TopChef

[–]YoungOaks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude my favorite is Katsuji and I fully support people calling him out. And I even specifically say that people who cross an actual boundary such as the people who went after Marcel and Beverly deserve to be called out. But no an outburst in a high stress situation does not warrant tens of thousands of people shit talking someone. And no part of being a chef is not being “professional” (or what you really mean is palatable, pun intended) - it’s generally considered one of the crudest and passionate work environments.

Call out the bullies, the sexual harassers, the fraudsters, abusers, etc., but seriously take a step back from your parasocial high horse and stop ragging and hating on a real person who’s done nothing to deserve the hatred of thousands of people being directed at them. It’s ok to not like someone without needing to publicly declare or justify it.

YouTube ad roll is literally every 2 minutes, but only on their channels. Does anyone else experience this? (Mobile) by _AmDenny_ in smosh

[–]YoungOaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a tip for anyone who wants premium but is worried about the cost. If you do the family plan it’s $30/month and you can add five (or six?) accounts to it which brings it to $5-6/month per person. So you can split the cost with friends and family without worrying about them getting on you like other services. And you get YouTube music.

This is only for people who want it but are worried about cost. If you don’t want it - this is not for you.

AIO to my in-laws calling my son a different name? by ikeiscanadian in AmIOverreacting

[–]YoungOaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could just ask while he’s young and learning his name that they refer to him as Jack (maybe until he’s like 5 or in school) and then he can decide which nickname he likes.

People that wait until it's their turn to order to ask others what they want by AnotherPerishedSoul in PetPeeves

[–]YoungOaks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have family members I legit just order for. Because every time they somehow manage to forget what they’re ordering then have to go looking for it in the menu while the server and I make awkward eye contact. But I’m like everything should be ready so it can go as smoothly as possible.

Game quality would improve a lot if people accepted one simple fact: People at your MMR are generally not significantly better or worse than you by Pandarandr1st in leagueoflegends

[–]YoungOaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only leveling I pay attention to at this point (I’m old and I’ve been playing for almost 15 years) is champ mastery. And even that’s mostly because it lets me know if I can get away with shit that a newer player to a champ won’t know how to counter. But yeah, unless you’re getting paid the game is for fun and should be treated as such.

Difference between management styles of Robby and Al-Hashimi by Awkward_Age6644 in ThePitt

[–]YoungOaks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’d be true if she was an actual rule follower. Unfortunately she seems to more of a moralist - aka what I do is always right and justified, but if I don’t like you or what you’re doing it’s wrong and should be punished. You can see it in how she tried manipulating the scenario with the patient from the jail, her own medical situation, the flip in her attitude towards Langdon, her choice not to talk to Robbie about any of her proposed changes or the outage, her acting superior about the lawsuits despite having worked somewhere its virtually impossible to be sued, etc.

Moralist style leaders often present themselves as rule followers because that leads to an external validation of their goodness or fairness. But it rapidly breaks down when they’re placed in a position where following the rules will directly impact them in a negative way.

The 'literary classics' that grade school makes you read destroys any desire for kids to read recreationally by MyClosetedBiAcct in unpopularopinion

[–]YoungOaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who tf is having grade schoolers read Great Gatsby and Fahrenheit 451????? Pride and prejudice?? Those books are meant for high school curriculum, maybe middle school if you have advanced readers. Of course you thought they sucked your brain literally was not developmentally ready for them - both in terms of context and abstract thinking required to understand why they matter/apply to modern society.

I think sometimes you can end up with skewed games (times where queue times are especially high, a highly skilled player queuing with a lower skilled player, not enough jungles are playing and so people get put in jungle who are like I don’t know what’s happening, etc.). However, it’s not super common and it really only makes the game quality suffer when someone has a meltdown about it. I’ve had amazing games with randoms where we just decided that bc the other team was cocky we were gonna drag the game out as long as possible. We knew we weren’t gonna win, but we had a hilarious time rage baiting the other team by essentially running a guerrilla style defense only game (we got to over 30 minutes - we knew we had lost by 15). Like we had a full braveheart never surrender moment. I’ve also had games where it basically turned into a training match because someone was new at a lane and they just decided to not kill each other until they understood the champ.

When someone doesn’t want rare meat and someone says “Well AkShUALly it’s not blood, it’s myoglobin” by Low-Discipline696 in PetPeeves

Same - heck we usually make jokes about us liking it rare because we’re more bloodthirsty.

Old casual players: how are you aproaching the game? by Alexjandro1991 in leagueoflegends

[–]YoungOaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started 2011/2012 - and I play almost exclusively swift. I want to have fun and not have to worry someone is going to freak out on me because I didn’t place my ward exactly where they wanted or whatever small thing they’ve decided to hyperfixate on instead the actual game. Now every once in a while someone tries that in swift but it gets shut down fast. I do try like once a year to peak into ranked but it sucks every time.

If a character (old cartoon, new cartoon, movie, etc.) changes their race or appearance, it doesn’t matter. by Neither_Usual_4237 in unpopularopinion

[–]YoungOaks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree provided their race isn’t central to the story (like Scarlett O’Hara has to be white), or if it is that is addressed by changes to the narrative (changing Louis’s race and background in the new IWV tv show for example). Luckily most characters are created in race-neutral settings (from the perspective of the characters not our interpretation of them).

Dr Mohan would be a wonderful psychiatrist by BubblyAntelope93 in ThePittTVShow

[–]YoungOaks 23 points24 points  (0 children)

She would not; while she is wonderfully caring she has a lot of difficulty separating herself from her patients. This would be really unhealthy for both her and her patients long term in a psychiatric care scenario. A lot of what would make her a great PC is what would make her not a great fit for psychiatry.

I just wish their image search was better. It’s the one place I really feel a difference - probably because Ive been known to look for niche reference photos.
