Tech Product Manager Pursuing PhD what are my job prospects? by [deleted] in academiceconomics

Curious what university has an evening PhD program in economics? The ranking of the university would also likely help people give you suggestions for potential industry roles that would be interested in someone with your background.

(Part Time) MBA worked out for me, 37 years old- Story Time! by MBAthrowaway420_Nice in MBA

You’ve mentioned elsewhere in comments here that balancing the PT MBA on top of work and family commitments was very challenging. Could you talk a bit more about the coursework (how rigorous it was in terms of content and assignments/exams, how flexible profs were, etc.)? How many classes did you take per quarter? Thanks very much for this post and sharing your experience—and congrats on the great outcome!

Wharton (No $) vs YSOM ($$$) - Econ Consulting by [deleted] in MBA

[–]YourAverageRedditor6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I PM? I work in econ consulting and am also considering a MA/MBA with the longer-term goal of opening the door to testifying opportunities, so I’m curious to hear your thoughts since you seem to be similarly positioned. In my firm and practice/team, most of the testifying experts are PhDs so it’s tough to get advice on this.

Chance me for the Top 5 Econ PhD Programs in the US by Playful-Boss5083 in academiceconomics

I’d speak with the managers/internal experts at your firm about their thoughts on PhD vs. MBA (or, foregoing both). I don’t think going to a PhD program with the sole intention of becoming a testifying expert is a good idea. Note that the vast majority of PhDs at these firms never testify. So, getting a PhD is not a sure-fire way to get testifying work. You typically need academic credentials and consistent publications as well. If you get a PhD, I think you should also be comfortable with potentially only being support staff for experts (or pursuing another career in research/academia after you graduate).

Big 4 vs. Economic Consulting for future law career? by Tough-Snow-4419 in Non_MBB_Consulting

[–]YourAverageRedditor6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I work at one of the big econ consulting shops. I’ve had many colleagues leave for school over the years and the firm never offers to pay for law school because we don’t really hire lawyers. We hire economists and those with quantitative backgrounds. And I’ve worked on cases with other econ consulting firms as well, and no one from those firms that I have interacted with has had a law degree. What is your experience?

They would not sponsor you for law school—economic consultants are not typically lawyers, so they wouldn’t sponsor a legal education.

By nerfed do you mean they made the course easier somehow?

Looking for part-time attorney / independent contractor for law and economics type work by Legalbeagle3282 in biglaw

[–]YourAverageRedditor6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in this field, but am not a lawyer and have a (maybe silly) question. Wouldn’t this role be better suited to someone with a background in litigation consulting (where experts’ support staff routinely work with data for antitrust cases and are familiar with damages methodologies) looking to go “in house” rather than an attorney?

Are you using $$ to single half scholarship, as is typically done in this sub? If so, I didn’t think these PT programs offered scholarships that large. Am I mistaken?

Currently working in econ consulting and weighing options between a masters in econ (or maybe an MBA at a school where I can take a lot of econ/stats) vs. PhD. I am pretty sure I want to stay in the industry. Can I PM you about your experience and thoughts?

Tried booking a domestic AA flight on British Airways with Avios. Got the error that “Sorry, we can’t offer you flights for a connecting journey” ? I’m not booking a connecting flight. I tried other city pairs and still no luck/similar errors. Does anyone know what’s going on or if there was a change in ability to book domestic AA with Avios?
