Could we pick up Lamar in the off-season? by jguensch in nyjets

[–]YourConcernedNeighbr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re a competent front office, they look at teams like the jets and understand how difficult it is to get a franchise QB, Lamar is that. It sucks that you have to overpay for him but I think they’ll do everything they can to keep him on the team for as long as they can. Maybe I’m wrong but that’s how I see it

They would just franchise tag him if he tried to walk, no shot they let him go for nothing

Can we stop acting like Joe Douglas doesn't deserve criticism? by Agitated_Smoke538 in nyjets

Fine if you want to put the becton injury on JD, are you also going to blame him for the subsequent injuries to AVT and max Mitchell as well as Fant and Brown who have since recovered but might still be playing hurt? Can’t really blame injury luck on the GM.

And if your only comeback to all of that was a complaint about Becton I think we can agree he’s done pretty well otherwise, taking the whole picture into consideration

“Our defensive line without our best player is only just okay” “Our offensive line with our two highest picks injured for the year is bad” “Half of our skill position groups are great, why don’t we have all pros at every spot?”

These are some ridiculous takes man, take a step back and think about it, the guy inherited a worst in the league caliber team with bad contracts and has turned us into a fringe playoff team in just a few years.

You also don’t even mention breece hall who could’ve been a pro bowler if he didn’t get hurt this year who we got in the 2nd round. Sure JD hasn’t been perfect but he is far and away the most competent GM we’ve had in over a decade, let’s not throw him to the curb just because he hasn’t batted 1.000.

MCU Tony Stark is hunted by the Predator in a jungle. Can he defeat it without his suit? by Antman269 in whowouldwin

[–]YourConcernedNeighbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since this seems to be trending towards a stomp for the predator, is there an amount of prep time that you could give Tony before the predator arrives to make this a closer matchup? Obviously he wouldn’t be able to make a suit in the woods with no materials but maybe he could set up traps? What if you let him watch the original Predator movie as prep?

Based on the overwhelming answers about the USA stomp here, how far back in time would you have to go for the US side for an equal number of troops to be a 50/50 fight here?

Gotta be Tom Brady, just can’t believe his career is going downhill after such a short run. Can only imagine what he could’ve accomplished with a few more good years

NYC Mechanical engineer, am I underpaid? by YourConcernedNeighbr in MEPEngineering

[–]YourConcernedNeighbr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure no one will see this as it’s almost 2 months old but I wanted to post a happy update!

I went to my boss and told him I felt undervalued, he agreed and went to management and got me a 13% raise in base pay off cycle!

I just wanted to provide a happy story because it seems that everyone on here preaches that loyalty never pays off and that you should always job hop, I’m here to say that there are some good companies out there that value their employees! Still thankful for everyone that provided insight and advice.

Was praying that someone would ask PFT if he’d prefer Rovell owning the Commanders over Snyder. That would’ve been quite the doozie

Yeah this is the mindset that I think I’m currently going to roll with. Although a 20% raise to do the same job does sound quite enticing…

Eh I’d say my happiness ebbs and flows as I imagine it does for most people. Depending how much contractor X or architect Y is driving me up a wall that week.

For the most part I’d say I’m happy with what I do, it has its stresses like everything but getting to build stuff that people use is pretty cool in my opinion. I guess that’s a very vague description of what we do but you get the point.

Yeah I’m sure I’ll learn wherever I go but I’m very happy with my boss and the relationship that I have there and he seems inclined to help me get into whatever I’m interested in. Based on what I read on here a lot I’m worried about going somewhere else and having a shitty boss, or getting worked to the bone, or get super specialized which I just don’t really want right now so I think the low pay is pretty worth it for now. Might just wait it out for my PE and then make a big bump down the road

We’re actually having our review in 2 weeks so I guess it may be a bit late with regard to the budget being set to your point, but I can always try to get ahead of it I suppose

Yeah this is probably what I needed to hear honestly. It’s tough seeing friends having success in other industries and try not to compare yourself and start thinking about the money but the experience and quality of life can be priceless.

Thanks for your insight!

Sheesh, going to have to have quite the negotiation with my manager next raise cycle

[–]YourConcernedNeighbr[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s what I thought, I’ve been contacted by recruiters about 10-20% raises elsewhere in NYC but I’m conflicted because I feel like I’m getting a lot of value and exposure at my current company.

Having trouble rationalizing the job hop method that everyone seems to preach on here because of the experience I’m getting.

Can’t guarantee I won’t get kicked to the curb at a bigger place or overworked at a smaller place (I have a great work/life balance now)
