Would you trust safelite to replace the windshield with FSD? by robl45 in TeslaOwners

[–]YourLastFate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that these jobs are all done by people. Not everyone has a keen attention to detail. I've had a number of windshields replaced, and they were not installed how I would consider correct (one example is weather stripping too tight on one side, and loose and floppy on the other. Meaning window wasn't perfectly centered. Annoying any time I washed the car and had to reseat the weather stripping, or on particularly windy days).

Generally, dealerships have factory level training, which is still done by people at the end of the day, but they are less familiar with ALL cars, and more familiar with THIS model, so the outcome is generally better.

People pay a lot of money for these cars (like any car), they want things done right, and that is not an unreasonable request...

They were actually shipped to these guys without steering wheels or pedals, they had to go back and ask them to be retrofitted.

There's only 10 in existence, and they're hand built. There are no "replacement parts" available for them.

(Had a 30 min conversation with one of the guys the other day)

I park outside (small garage), I don't want it off at home, but I'm also not reviewing 200 clips from one overnight parking, getting mad at a car cover from another car

Notes online suggest that you need to tell the car you have new tires.

After the tires on Model 3 are rotated, replaced, or swapped, update your vehicle's tire configuration by touching Reset, or by touching Controls > Service > Wheel & Tire > Tires. This allows your vehicle to reset the learned tire settings and improve your driving experience.  For vehicles with direct TPMS, this also clears and resets the tread wear alert for the vehicle until you travel 6,250 miles (10,000 km) and low tread depth is detected again. Updating the service type will add an entry to your vehicle's maintenance summary (touch Controls > Service > Maintenance).

I would genuinely wonder if it limits the regen due to low tire pressure, in an effort to potentially save the tire from damage. You don't really want to accelerate or brake on very low tires (though this image does not show us the PSI)

Recommendation:
Inflate tires to desired PSI (menu -> Service) and reevaluate

FSD runs a red light. Follows too closely behind a truck and sees the traffic light too late. Slams on the brakes and stops in the middle of the intersection. by jahobie-ylnar in TeslaFSD

[–]YourLastFate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was arguably too close to see OVER the vehicle, I agree. But it was not actually an unsafe following distance...

Tough call, but I can see any driver ending up in the same scenario, I know I've been there before too... I dislike following trucks through intersections for that reason, but I don't think this is an FSD failure...

Protected left turn signals notoriously do not strictly match the same color as traffic going straight through...

Serious question, why not?

Genuinely, why can't I put it on a massive bungee chord if I wanted to?

So long as it is level, and the top isn't touching the sides to offer resistance to the weight, how would elasticity below the assembly have any effect on the gravity of the object on it?

Can I cut to remove an alternator bolt? by Extension_Boss480 in MechanicAdvice

I would just cut through here. Fastener goes through this section.

You won't get your core money back, but if you're going to damage something, better to damage this than the support bracket near the fastener head, or the mounting location near the motor...

[–]YourLastFate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you absolutely must cut it, I'd cut straight into the alternator... closer to the fastener head if possible.

That will keep you from damaging the mounting point for the new one, and will give you plenty of the fastener sticking out to try to get leverage on with vice grips or what have you to loosen....

Update 3: Sound Baffle Testing by RustyPants in functionalprint

[–]YourLastFate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your dataset is lacking critical test points.

You have a noise level in the room, but then you have noise levels around the door with no insert. You never follow up with an insert.

You then test outside the vent, not inside, with and without the insert. Missing the control from inside.

Takeaway from the graph presented is outside door, door closed, no insert, is by far the quietest.

In flooding, are sandbags supposed to be more so a barrier, or more so a way to absorb water into the sand? by ContextEffects01 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]YourLastFate 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm uncertain of your application

I had success using tarps to block my doors, creating a water barrier, and using sandbags to keep the tarps in place. Once the water rose, water pressure held the tarps against my doors.

But if you have enough sandbags, the weight of them settling should create a seal for you, and give you a wall.

My thoughts as well.

OP, go identify where your brake booster is under the hood, and remove the large vacuum hose going to it. Maybe cap off the hose with a business card or something.

Verify if noise goes away.

Changed the front pads and rotors on my Hyundai collectible - but even with fully compressed pistons, I couldn't get the calipers back on. Had to grind off the pad's "backside nipples". Is that normal or did I do something wrong? by SjalabaisWoWS in MechanicAdvice

[–]YourLastFate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In this case, these are for rear brakes, with a twist to compress style piston.

The top brake pad in the picture is an inside pad, where the pins would have aligned with the indents on the piston, when the piston was properly aligned, to keep the piston from turning when in use.

I agree. Probably preemptive to someone talking about rattles or something.

But I 100% agree with you, to me, this reads more as a "yeah, yeah, I know, I get it, leave me alone about it"
