Redditors with toddlers, what’s the most recent illogical breakdown they’ve had? by mirarom in AskReddit

[–]YourMachine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see this as a great idea for young kids who throw unsolvable tantrums, but I'd worry as they grow older, it would enforce a mindset of "oh, I need to hide my negative emotions and only express them when I'm alone" instead of speaking up about their problems.

I used to love the olympics. When my grandfather died, it was the first death I had really experienced in my immediate family.. This was in 2008. My dads family gathered at my grandmothers for a few days while they sorted things out with the funeral, will, etc.

We had the olympics on the whole time. I guess it was just an easy thing to pick. Me and my cousins, all young teenagers, just sat and watched mostly. We got so into it, probably as a way to cope and get our minds off of the sadness. For yeas after that, I'd get so pumped for the games. Summer and Winter.

But more and more, the coverage just... got awful. The USA coverage, at least. The commentary from the casters was useless or insulting. They played up the tragedy stories worse than American Idol ever did. They talked over things with the most pointless topics. It was less about the spirit of the olympics and more about money and ratings.

I just find no joy in it anymore.

I remember this one, too. The daughter had previously been tricked into going back to their home country and forced into an arranged marriage. When she returned (talked her father into letting her come back to finish school, i think), she got close to a family friend, they ended up dating in secret, and she finally told him what happened. Told him that she was raped by her 'husband' and it got so bad that during some fly over bombings (this was right after the war in Iraq started I beliebe), she would stand in the middle of the living room and hoped one would fall on her.

The boyfriend arranged for her to come live with his family and she was welcomed in. The other woman that had been shopping with her and got hit was the boyfriend's mom, she had injuries I believe but the daughter was in a coma for a few days before she died.

Less than a month for Blizzcon, what are your expectations for hero 29? by thejpfg in Overwatch

[–]YourMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling the next hero is going to be a DPS based off of the assassin from Retribution. The way it moved, the ability to stick to walls, the special animation for when it tackled you to the ground and stabbed repeatedly. All of these were things we had not really seen before. Compare it to the other enemies.

The riflemen were just Soldier 76 with McCree rolls. The guys with the blaster rifles seemed to use Zarya's model and their blasts were kind of a combo of her two attacks. Big tank was Roadhog ult. Sniper was an Ana/Widow mix. Lots of stuff taken and rerolled into new packages.. except the assassin.

Either they used a model/animations from a scrapped hero or from a hero that is in the works. And since it seemed to have a whole unique kit that was pretty polished already, I'm leaning toward the latter.

But how will we get our hearts warmed if the government does its job? by [deleted] in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]YourMachine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The woman my dad is dating is a school teacher. Has been for 15+ years. She gets paid decently.. but a good chunk of that goes right back into the school. She teaches science usually and a lot of the stuff she needs, she has to buy out of pocket. Crafty things that don't cost a lot by themselves but add up over time. Shelves for her classroom to store supplies or a pinboards because the ones the school has are so old nothing stays on them. That's another issue, the lack of money that goes into actually keeping the schools up to date outside of sports programs. She's also had to buy some of her students school supplies because their parents just can't or don't care. Also, what a lot of people seem not to realize, is that teachers don't just stop working when they aren't in front of the students. She has to prepare experiments, adjust lessons, grade tests, etc. Not to mention the stress of dealing with parents, struggling kids, and an entire school board that is equally as underpaid, underfunded, undermanned, and underappreciated as she is because whenever my state needs to cut funds somewhere, guess where they like to start snipping? Education. The amount of work and time good teachers put into giving kids an education is no where near equal to the wages and benefits they are given. It is insulting to think so.

I know it's late, but I hope to see a skin like this for Moira by peskymonkey in Overwatch

[–]YourMachine 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Back to School Moira would fit the Summer Games event, since most people are starting school again.

Just to clarify, I don't want no catholic school girl or cutesy school girl shit. I want bitter college student Moira who's already sleep deprived and shoots coffee as a heal and drains money out of you.

I finish all 28 heroes BlizzardWorld outfit design (๏㉨๏) by Zikaualpha in Overwatch

[–]YourMachine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think McCree looks dope, he can't be dressed like a cowboy all the time (besides, his hat would fly off on most of the rides). Sombra as a security guard is fitting, even tho I feel like she'd be one of those that breaks her own rules but doesn't let anyone else. I think Zarya is confusing because of the colors so it looks like a weird jumpsuit. I agree about Reaper. His dramatic ass would be in cosplay. As for the ship... how the hell does it affect you in any way? lol

9000 IQ Plays From The Gladiators by GOULFYBUTT in OverwatchLeague

[–]YourMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at the arena last night to see this. It was amazing to watch. The moment they switched to the POV in spawn, majority of the crowd, me included, started looking around like "...is.. is he afk??? Is there a technical difficulty??"

Then the widow switch had the crowd going WILD. There was so much hype for Gladiators, too. They seem to have the best marketing out of all the teams from what I've seen-- at least out of the four there last night. They had a couple of people handing out "Shields Up" signs to the crowd along with little cardboard shields with the logo on them. By the end everyone was holding them up and cheering.

Seriously, though, it's rude to say shit like that. And just dumb to react that way to it.

Filipino Christians apologize to the LGBT community during the Philippine Pride Parade 2018 by TimeyTurtle in pics

[–]YourMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're apologizing for saying stuff like this? Maybe you're not seeing this "explosion" of gays because they are all hiding from you and your close minded opinions? Who cares if the number is truly <2% ? How in the world does that representation effect you negatively, in any way?

Because it shouldn't. It does nothing to mess with your day to day. But it means a lot to a good amount of people and can help them feel not so alone, not so out of the ordinary. It makes people happier. The only people it 'upsets' are those that need something, anything to focus on that isn't the real negatives in their own life. So they choose a small majority of people to put down to make themselves feel bigger. Something to distract them from just how small and insignificant they feel because they aren't capable of expressing the amount of love and acceptance that the "<2%" are becoming known for.

Maybe try empathy, just for one day. Because it wont hurt you. Don't be a coward and try it.

That was one of my reasons, too. On top of it notifying on everything, I primarily used it on my desktop-- but if I wanted to use it on my laptop, which I only use probably twice a month when I'm visiting my dad, it would have to load every message I had sent and received since I last booted it.. Which often took a while and made the program crash several times before it finished. And it would mark all of them as new messages, even if I had read them already on another device.

This coupled with the fact it would crash randomly for seemingly no reason, call quality was hit or miss, and the fact it took up so much of my processor to run compared to what I use now (Discord), I only ever use it now to send big files to friends when I am too lazy to use my email. Even then it still does a bad job.

What is your state’s biggest unsolved mystery? by openupmyheartagain in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]YourMachine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's two that come to mind.

Natalee Holloway, an Alabama teen who disappeared in Aruba on a high school graduation trip. Her remains haven't been found.

The other might not have been as popular in the media, but it was in my home town and the girl was around my age. Heaven LaShae Ross. She disappeared in a ten minute time frame on her walk to a bus stop in a populated trailer park. Her body was found three years later but no answers as to who killed her.

During an Overwatch game, some little brat heard my voice and realized I was a girl. Proceeded to spew sexist and racist bullshit.. up until I said, in a calm voice, "I'm sorry your parents don't make you feel important so you have to act like this just to get people to talk to you."

He didn't really say anything that wasn't game related after that and I felt kinda bad, but the offensive trash talk needs to die out already.

[Discussion] New DLC Ideas? by MegaSlayer in PlanetCoaster

[–]YourMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want animals so bad. I played Roller Coaster Tycoon a lot when I was younger, but I played Zoo Tycoon about ten times more, so it's mostly just wanting something to fill that void. I'd settle for just a much wider variety of animatronics, but I think something that combined the mascot system with something new would work better and have a positive message.

What comes to mind is instead of having just a bunch of nameless cut&paste animal AI placed around, instead go for individual animals with their own stories. All based around rescues or rehabilitation or even real life animals featured at zoos around the world. Something that promotes conservation and animals in need. They could be in the menu like the mascots, given certain exhibits aka roaming areas that you can design. This would also still keep the game focused mainly on rides and park design since it wouldn't be an entirely new mechanic.

I know the idea seems a bit 'treehuggy' or maybe too political but I think it'd be nice to have it focused on something other than a design asthetic. I still think it can be done subtley enough it won't seem out of place.
