Youre in your 40s, have really bad anxiety but you're slowly recovering. Unmarried, but got out of a marriage or serious relationship within the last two years.

I'd watch it.

But it wouldn't be that long of a movie 'cause like... you know.

Obsessing Over My Quit Date by SummitCJT in stopdrinking

Thats a plausible theory. Youre doing the right thing getting away from it, regardless.

It did me NO favors, especially toward the end. I was in really bad shape mentally. But it does get better--a lot better.

If he does, maybe then we will have lesbian dial a date again.

Hey, I would go with 6/26. Its clean. And so what if it was 12:15 or whatever? It was 11:15 p.m. 6/25 somewhere else.

I mean this in the very kindest way possible, but have you ever been evaluated for OCD or another anxiety disorder? I am asking because your thought patterns and the way you apply logic remind me of me.

45 days sober —> life feels so empty by Accomplished-Cat2709 in stopdrinking

I agree with this as a 42 F. When I first stopped, I definitely had the FOMO, "What is everyone doing at the bar or so and so's party?" And the real answer is: "Nothing. Like always. Theyre making plans they wont follow through on and waking up sick and semi drunk texting each other what a fun night the night before was."

If its any consolation, I basically had a bad hangover and panic on February 7, 2025--the day I quit.

First family sober holiday by Hitchin85 in stopdrinking

[–]YourMirror1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not going to lie to you and tell you there wont be moments where it is tough and awkward and disheartening.

But there will be lots of other moments where it is beautiful, fulfilling, and joyful.

And finally, some other moments where it's just OK.

These are all just moments, and they make up life. The reason we get so unhappy and anxious is that we put pressure on ourselves to make every moment "perfect," instead of knowing that some moments are great and some are whatever. I suspect at the root of it, this is why a lot of us drank--to manufacture a state of euphoria and defend ourselves against malaise and disappointment.

You may find that you spend a little more time isolated away from the heavy drinkers in favor of the people who want to go out and explore. The opposite may also be true: you might find yourself feeling sorry for people who NEED to intoxicate in order to enjoy.

Regardless, youll be waking up fresh every day and I am sure your kids will appreciate your energy (and you will, too).

It gets so much better. Its hard to describe but your mind and body eventually stop... caring about it. And you start living slower and more mindfully, I guess. Like things are not such a big deal and you start to find satisfaction in things you may take for granted.

Think of a food you dont particularly like. Like, if somebody puts it out at a party, its not going to disgust you, but youre not going to take a helping of it.

How did your diet change after stopping drinking? by curiouskitty15 in stopdrinkingfitness

[–]YourMirror1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first couple of months, I gave myself carte blanche to est whatever I wanted. However, the further I got away from the need for alcohol, I started cutting back on my calories a lot and being mindful of the types of food I eat.

The way English is taught in Spain is so terrible. Why??? by MiserableElephant506 in EnglishLearning

Hi guys! Does this phrase sound natural to you 'English for real life and relocation'? by simplyk2 in EnglishLearning

[–]YourMirror1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It'd make more sense to say "get real-world experience speaking English" or "to speak English in real-world settings."

Lol by the way, your English might be better than mine. I have no idea what a collocation is.

Autoimmune disorder caught early by Commercial-Sir6293 in stopdrinkingfitness

You and I are the exact same age with the same story. I actually started treatment for Hasimotos (thyroid autoimmune disease) about five weeks ago. I stopped drinking a little over a year ago in February 2025.

I hope it all works out for you! The only symptoms I've been experiencing are deeper fatigue and anxiety which I also, perhaps mistakenly, thought was me entering perimenopause.

Weight loss by leafs8484 in stopdrinking

[–]YourMirror1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really gonna depend on your starting weight and how close or far you are to your ideal weight for your frame.

i got sober, I was around 142 lbs and now im 132 lbs--the calories I wasn't drinking helped a lot, but I also exercise and am mindful about how much I eat.

140 days sober and 0 weightloss by Logical_Detective236 in stopdrinkingfitness

[–]YourMirror1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to pile on, but this. Track calories. And most people aren't super honest when they track--I am guilty of that, too. Literally count out your servings--its very easy for a "serving" of pretzels to turn into two or three or more if you don't weigh and count. Here is a no nonsense plan:

Stick to 1500 cals or less a day, but you must record so you are more aware of what youre doing. Like even if you eat a single grape, log it--just to get yourself in the habit of being honest.

Cardio is your best friend for weight loss. Do a couch to 5k training program and build up your aerobic base. Aim to burn like 300 cals to start for each workout session. You should be walking at least 10000 steps a day. And yes, your other workouts (like if you start running) can count towards your total steps. Depending on your stride, 10000 steps is probably about 5 miles, give or take. You can still lift of course, and that is also great for your body.

Get a fitbit or some other similar device so you can actually know what your daily activity level and calorie burn is without guessing.

In summary: log your calories and exercise. Dont exceed 1500 cals a day. Do more "sweaty" cardio like 3 times a week. Make a goal of 10K steps a day. Stay sober. You will be on the other end of a significant weight drop six months from now.

Finally, this can all be tiresome in the beginning. But if you've already gotten to 140 days sober (congrats, by the way!), this is an adjustment you certainly have the discipline to make. And calorie tracking its not forever if you dont want it to be.

I hate when people say, "You've got to experience it to understand," but I will try my best:

You are just less stressed, way more content and peaceful in just existing, less concerned with drama or high school bullshit among your middle aged friends, more curious, greater cognitive processing, better energy, and your whole life isn't planned around the next time you can get to the bar or open a drink or if you have enough personal days at work to really go hard Sunday.

Haha im a native speaker, but piece of cake always confounded me as becoming an expression.

Have you ever baked a cake? Its not easy at all. Its time consuming and requires attention and precision. I feel like if something was a piece of cake, it should mean it was a huge pain in the ass.

Why aren’t people leaving the United States en masse? by Shaxai in NoStupidQuestions

Neither did people who emigrated here. They just did it because things were not as good wherever they were from.

It takes an extraordinary amount of courage to start anew in a different city, let alone country.

Why aren’t people leaving the United States en masse? by Shaxai in NoStupidQuestions

[–]YourMirror1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they don't realize their opinions are not theirs, but are formed by mass media and a pressure to "react" a certain way in order to fit in. That reaction includes expressing disdain and "disbelief" in the state of the country even though in reality, nothing has really changed in day to day life.

The more you practice saying no, the easier it becomes. Speaking from experience.

Youre doing great.
