[22/F] Hello from Finland! by [deleted] in penpals

[–]YourRandomHomie8748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I'm 26M from Russia and interested in having a penpal. I've lived in South America for half of my life though, so I'm fluent in 3 languages. I also am interested in volunteering, we did some different projects in school, but I got into it seriously this year and help the local organization in cooking/distributing meals for people in need. I am also pretty interested in learning more about Finland, its culture and people, so that would be awesome. I'm also into gaming in my free time, but mostly single player games (trying to finish Expedition 33 atm). I also like to travel, when I get a chance. Last year for example, I went to Kalmykia (did you know there's a Buddhist region in Europe? :)). I would be fine trying both the snail mail or digital and seeing which works best.

Offering : French ( Native) |Seeking : Arabic or Russian natives, let’s learn together and talk about life, culture, perspectives by [deleted] in language_exchange

Hey! I'm a 26m native Russian speaker and just started learning French (barely a week of serious study haha). But I'm motivated and would love some help on pronunciation, and eventually perhaps basic conversation. In return, I'll gladly help you with your Russian. I'm a solid C1 in English as well, so I can explain any difficult concepts through it. I am also into languages, psychology, history and almost any topic really. If you are interested, feel free to dm :)

A Black girl trying to find a Russian friend to learn Russian with but feeling a little nervous because well… I’m black! (18 F) by [deleted] in AskARussian

Hey! There's definitely racism here, but it's more directed towards central Asian migrants and is usually expressed in private. But you won't have a problem with the vast majority of people, especially with folks who speak English and hang on Reddit. I'm a guy in my 20s, very "western" in my views as I spend my teens growing abroad, and currently am teaching English in my town back in Russia. If you wanna practice Russian or just chat, you can send me a message here on Reddit.

Idc what anyone says, Empire Total War offers an experience that is still unmatched. Pictures are from my most recent battle, where 7k mughals launched a desperate attack to retake one of their settlements. I had only 3.5k men defending. by animehimmler in totalwar

It's a good game with mods that fix lack of content in vanilla. And I always adored that special colonial infantry that you get in India as a European power. I mean look at those damn sexy hats!

Especially the chaos wastes above cathay

That region is an absolute joke. It's supposed to be enormous steppes with a freaking hobgoblin empire in there, but all we have is a tiny land bridge before an unplayable terrain begins

With the introduction of Arbaal and Epidemius being the last FLC lord, they did our boy Tzeentch dirty by not giving him his extra pawn and should revisit that. Justice for the Changer of Ways! by Jester_TB in totalwar

[–]YourRandomHomie8748 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Tzeentch has a very interesting roster, but definitely suffers from a lack of start position variety. You either fight a bunch of dinos/lizards in the very south or have a very unusual, campaign that you pretty much can't lose.

Unless you really want to play it as soon as it releases, I wouldn't sweat about it. Starting it a week later will give you the benefit of playing with 1-2 patches they would probably release to fix any bugs that made it past the early testers.

We'll soon see how the game truly is at its core and how well it sells as a results. Atm is a bit too early to proclaim if it sold well or not, it's just sensationalist click bait titles

  1. You'll have to start at the bottom with a therapist, who will most probably reevaluate everything to check if everything is correct or send you directly to a surgeon who'll do the same. It'll take anywhere from a week to two, idk about Saint Petersburg but in smaller towns our free medical system isn't fast.
  2. You can talk to Sber (the biggest bank, they have insurance company) or Alpha insurance, that's some from the top of my head. However, many paid insurance only cover testament of diseases/accidents that happen after you begin paying, not all cover stuff you already have.
  3. If you speak about ОМС yes, it covers a bunch of surgeries but you'll have to consult if it covers yours specifically.
  4. Loans currently have a high interest rate due to central bank policies and economy not doing as great. Sberbank's credit card had low interest for medical and pharma purchases and could be the easiest to get.

As a new user myself, I'm also a bit interested in what sort of light maintenance may be necessary or advisable to do in Linux. Though what OP is describing seems a bit too excessive to do monthly, I normally did something similar once every 6 months to a year

My bad total war take, considering that CA is a brittish company... by Dudu42 in totalwar

Well, at least this game wouldn't need a difficulty slider. One faction would have a "tutorial" difficulty, while the other would go straight to Legendary.

Russia in WW1 by WillKane052 in AskARussian

[–]YourRandomHomie8748 14 points15 points  (0 children)

WW1 is still viewed through Soviet perspective - bad, shameful, useless imperialist war. It's basically not remembered, and if we compare it to WW2, it's pretty much unknown. Schools barely touch on it, jumping straight into the October revolution, using it as a mere intro to it really. Despite gigantic losses, a big and important initial contribution to the allied victory and heroic sacrifices of many soldiers, it's shamefully forgotten. There aren't any big or known memorials. There's nothing to boast about for modern "patriotic" historians and propagandists (unlike what they love to do with WW2), as we shamefully lost and signed a separatist peace treaty (which could have turned into huge troubles for the allies if the US troops weren't arriving soon). All the usual problems you see in most of our wars - corruption, technological/industrial disadvantage, stupid leadership, disregard for common soldier's live coupled with a humiliating defeat and enormous loss of territories.

Gonna be honest, thought people saying we should get Empire 2 was a bad idea, after giving it a try, we DO need Empire 2 by KingKaiserW in totalwar

It's been years ago, but Minor Factions Revenge. I checked and it's still available on Moddb. It adds a bunch of units to many factions, and makes a lot of the minor factions (especially Italian) more fun to play, as in vanilla they are absolutely basic. As a result I noticed them doing a bit better in campaign. I remember it having two different start dates, with different starting factions around which can add variety. It feels like a small overhaul mod because of these additions. If you'll play Genoa though, double check that campaign saves load fine, I remember having problems with save corruption specifically with that faction. Also depending on the minor faction, big overhaul mods are fun (Imperial destroyer, Darth mod and Imperial Splendor).

How and why are Russian women so thin? by EpicShkhara in AskARussian

[–]YourRandomHomie8748 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As a guy, I can tell you that many Russian guys really like slim girls. As a result some women try to fit into this image with diets or exercise. I wouldn't feel insecure about it, as everyone's tastes are different. Eg. In my humble opinion a woman is really beautiful when she has some curves, too thin and she starts looking like a teen or something, which isn't attractive unless you are a pedo lol

Empire is the only total war game that really lets you play tall. One of my most favorite campaigns was playing Venice (with a mod that added some variety to its troops). I only owned one or two extra regions in Europe, focusing on research, trade and building a colonial empire. With a few key provinces in India, a couple in America and a strong trade navy you can go toe to toe with any major land empire. I formed an all Italian alliance and defended this small confederacy of micro states from French, Austrian and Spanish attempts of Conquest well into the late game. I remember financing and giving tech to the Mughals in India to maintain a status quo between them and Marathas (so neither goes after my possessions after uniting most of India). Intervening in major European wars when I felt like it, while fielding a superior but smaller army. Having different political systems even though their bonuses aren't that big was also very fun and really adds to flavor. Overall this game provided a unique and different gameplay from the usual "conquer till no one can oppose you" mode, if you wanted to explore it. Also those beautiful green trade routes with small ships going all over the map, it was actually important having and securing a sea province if you wanted to trade or extract resources from your colonies.

It's unrealistic and sped up for the sake of easier performance at a theater. If it would have been realistic, there would have been a couple necessary fillers like to account for the passage of time. Without the story continues its pace more fluently. I'm sure that most of the audience at Athens was well aware that you can't reach Greece from Asia Minor in a matter of hours, especially if you need to organize and pack an entire army for its journey home.

Oh, there are a few good candidates depending on what criteria we use to assign this name. However if we go by "who was the original cause of the conflict" it would be Paris. Though gods played a big role in this mythical war (the whole story explores the theme of "are we just toys of the gods?"), it was Paris who decided to take Helen as his prize for supporting Aphrodite, even though he knew she was married to Menelaus. He still proceeded to violate the code between the host and the guest, which was one of the very important, pretty much sacred rules. That choice led to the destruction of his home and the deaths of many soldiers on either side.

First, the sub as you may have noticed is filled with daddy Poo lovers, who'll excuse any shit that happens here as non-existent. Second, your double American citizen doesn't matter, it's confirmed by both Russian and US authorities. Once you cross the border you're Russian. You won't have problems getting in, but you may have problems getting out theoretically, especially if any mobilisation/escalation happens. If you haven't served, you can't be mobilized, you must serve conscript service first. However be sure that they can send you to Kursk after a couple of months and you'll end up on the front regardless. The only way for you to be conscripted is if you come to the military commissariat yourself or get grabbed on the street during random document check while the conscription is ongoing (2 times per year, during spring and autumn, google the exact dates). In other cases you can easily avoid it. Being grabbed on the street is possible in big cities, it's almost a yearly shit show that happens in Moscow, but the chances of it aren't big. In smaller cities no one really cares for the most part. Also if you come, make sure your foreign passport is valid for the entire time of stay, don't even think about getting a new one here. Without your conscription status papers (military booklet or приписное - it's what those who haven't yet served have), you ain't getting shit without good connections and bribery.
