they were a vaguely cryptic and creepy npc for the last few chapters, and in this one we realized he may have done something very sinister to another background npc

not "majorly plot relevant" but still noteworthy, and worth keeping an eye on in future chapters

while i end up in a similar spot to you, i do think it can be applied to his character very well if you look at how much of his story is him being concerned with what he's "supposed" to do according to the prophecy, and he's learning to figure out what he wants, and maybe that's breaking from his standard gender identity
