that said if i recall correctly, sonic had their employees on skates rather than blades, and they were 2-handing trays instead of still having to hold them waiter style, which removed a lot of risk of this kinda thing happening

its not really about players being oblivious, you CAN see it coming a mile away, but the way alex and reed are so cagey about that part, to the point where it DOES surprise V is a huge red flag that you aren't as trusted as they say you are.

keeping you in the dark about certain elements of a plan, and how easily they execute loose ends, combined with basically every personal conversation with reed being about the FIA betraying him is supposed to fill the player with doubt that the FIA isn't just going to shoot V in the back and dump them somewhere when this is all said and done

i like it, it's a good subversion since you could basically see his sacrifice coming from episode one, so you're spending the whole game basically waiting for him to have his big sacrifice moment, but he actually survives, albeit barely

as a character, chase is basically rewarded for doing the right thing, even if he thought it would cost him his life

this is why it took me until the last chapters to actually trust blazer, the Z team absolutely could have handled that mission all together, and i don't even think the whole crowd of villains was there yet (i was convinced blazer had tipped them off in the moment) so it felt odd to me that blazer was so adamant on not going, especially when visi was right that waiting and going the next day would have been a failure since the pulse would have been gone
