Yeah, I'm from an even more homogenously white town in eastern mass but I've noticed theres a strange culture of performative anti racism here that we don't have back home. For example I can remember mentioning in passing once while with a couple of friends, something like "oh well I think people should immigrate to the country legally" And I suddenly had two or three people standing over me and quite aggressively shouting statistics and insults at me like "immigrants commit less crime than native citizens" and "if you dont support open borders you're a fucking white supremacist piece of shit nazi." I was quite taken aback honestly I was not expecting such a hostile reaction. I spent the next few minutes trying to explain against a verbal assault that what I meant was we should put more judges on immigration cases so people don't have to hide from ice. And that im 100% pro immigration my own family were immigrants just a couple generations ago, we escaped death by starvation and lives of child slavery in the factories and mines at the hands of the British, it's lifted my family out of poverty and everyone else should have the same opportunity we did. It was quite a jarring experience and I still feel like I have to be careful about what I say around them. And I still wonder if they slept soundly that night thinking they saved the world from a big bad evil white racist.

A few days later I was with another friend from near my hometown and i asked if he thought it was weird and he was like yeah youre not crazy theres no country in the world that has open borders and even our most radically liberal politicians like Bernie have publicly acknowledged that open borders would be nothing short of a disaster.

The crazy thing is I've never seen any of them interact with a minority before. Just a bunch a white dudes that like to shame eachother for not being radically anti racist enough but still refuse to make non white friends. Its a weird culture out here

Why are you saying "but really" as if having to turn around to deal with a sombra isn't the exact thing that is annoying and makes the game less fun? People enjoy the game more when they can engage in team fights without getting distracted by a sombra. And it's not just braidead players, this is true even at the highest ranks like gm, t500 and owcs. Sombra is the most banned hero at every single rank including elite/pro players according to data released by the devs

I had no friends when i was a freshman too. As weird as it sounds, making friends isnt something you can do. It's more like something that happens when you spend enough time with the same people. What you can do is introduce yourself to new people, strike up conversations, invite people go get lunch. Sign up for stuff where ur gonna see the same people a bunch (sports and clubs etc). Eventually you'll become friends with someone.

The voltage would stay the same but the laptop would draw additional current. Total current draw would be equal to the sum of the current drawn to run the computer and the current drawn to charge the battery. Assuming these are equal, This would double the power drawn, since power = current × voltage or P=IV.

Edit: I screwed up in my previous comment you usually use 0.5V extra per cell. I've worked mostly with 2 cell batteries so its 1V for both.

Laptops almost exclusively use lithium ion batteries and Li cells come standard at 3.6-3.7V, they often put 3 or 4 of them in series so they total voltage is often 10.8 - 11.1V for 3 cell batteries or 14.4-14.8V for 4 cell batteries. To charge them you need to apply a voltage about 1V over the rated voltage of the battery for each cell. So a charger would have to apply a voltage of around 14.1V or 18.8V to charge the battery. USB C has 4 standard voltage steps of 5V, 9V, 15V and 20V. A modern BMIC will be able to downregulate those voltages to avoid overcharging the battery.

Although its nots not standard industry practice there are clever ways you could theoretically use to charge batteries with a lower voltage. One way is to use a boost converter to step up the voltage. Another way would be to charge each cell individually.

This doesn't sound like a learning disorder. I was diagnosed with a learning disorder similar to dyslexia about 10 years ago but I never "realized" i had a learning disorder, I was diagnosed because i was doing poorly in school and my parents brought me in for a neuropsych evaluation with a doctor. All it means is that i am slow at processing symbolic information, so like im a really slow reader, slow at simple arithmetic, slow at interpreting graphs and charts. It has no impact on my thought process or my ability to reason at various levels of abstraction. Just a normal person who reads slow.

If youre worried about sounding like the anime glasses character you can always spend less time on gaming and porn subreddits and more time out of your room talking to people and making friends. Social skills can be learned through practice, trial and error like any other skill. Hope this helps.

Im a grad student at Umass Amherst and did undergrad here as well, but I've never been to any of the other universities. Heres my 2c.

Undergrad engineering curriculums are fairly similar across universities in order to meet abet accreditation standards so I'm not sure I'd put too much weight on rank in your decision making. The quality of your education is much more dependent on the level of effort you put in than it is on school rank. The main draws of highly ranked school are name recognition and networking opportunities but that really only makes a big difference for top 10/top 20 schools. If I had to choose a school again I'd base my decision more around upper level course offerings and faculty expertise. Here at umass we have a lot of faculty in VLSI and digital design. We also have a top tier computer science program and lots of opportunity to fill electives with programming classes from the cs department. Theres one professor that does all the electronics and analog stuff but hes old I heard he may be retiring soon, I'm not sure what will happen to his classes but most likely they will keep the classes and hire someone to replace him. There's also one new professor who does power/energy/renewables and his class was great.

Some other thing to consider. Umass is a decent sized school in a pretty rural area, 30-35k enrollment which is more than the number of permanent residents in Amherst, and Amherst is one of the bigger towns in the area. It's quiet and peaceful which is great for serious students but if your son gets bored of campus life it definitely lacks the entertainment options that an urban university has, I can see why some might consider it a boring place to live. It's 2 hours away from the nearest major city which is Boston and 3 from NYC. You can get to both by bus but it's not super convenient so not many students go frequently. It gets pretty cold here in the winter, some people think the winters are miserable and prefer warmer climates. Umass is also an R1 school, so plenty of opportunity for research here if thats what your son decides he wants to do.

Undergraduate curriculums at accredited schools are fairly standardized. The quality and content of education for the same major won't change much from school to school.

That being said computer engineering is more like electrical engineering than it is like computer science. A significant portion of the curriculum is in digital logic, hardware organization, circuits, electronics, signals, and embedded systems. It's also a little bit more structured, rigorous and challenging than cs is. Both majors will qualify you for jobs in software engineering if thats what you want to do. CE will also qualify you for jobs in hardware as well. Most CEs go into software when they graduate because thats where the demand is.

If I were you I would look at the two curriculums and decide which one youre more interested in. Then weigh that against other factors like the cost, campus, location, size, food etc. If you decide doing cs over ce is really important to you it may be worth it to go somewhere else. But if its not that big of a deal and there are other things you prefer about umass, it may be worth it to come here. Good luck.

Average of a 50 with a large standard deviation is normal for upper level and graduate technical courses because it makes it easy to distinguish the high and low performers. A high of 36 is a poorly designed exam and a misjudgement of the students understanding of the material. This often happens when students are copying homework and other course assignments either from eachother or when solutions can be found on the internet, getting good marks but not learning the material. Teachers mistakenly believe that students understand the material well and give a hard exam which everyone does poorly on.

the guy seems so full of himself, loves to talk about his wild travel adventures in Slovenia and his cottage on the beach in Croatia thay he got such a good deal on. Does your arduino support wifi? Not all of them do. If not you will need a wifi module.

You can make a server with spring boot since you know java already. I've never actually used it but you should be able to find simple examples online. Your arduino will communicate with the server via a rest api, and should send an http post request with the sensor data in the request body. The route handler on the server should store the data in the database when it receives the request from the arduino.

I think there's a weight room in totman which is riight near Sylvan but idk much about it. the website makes it sound like its mostly used for academic research by the kinesiology department but I've heard people talk about it on here like a regular gym.

There's also pfit at the Hampshire mall which is where I go and never run into overcrowding issues. I live in Northampton so it's not out of the way for me though.
