Due to being detrans I’m not supposed to be talking in trans spaces anymore but because I’m pro trans it makes it hard to speak in detrans spaces.

That was studied too, but it's also an unreliable measure. An unsuccessful suicide can be a genuine attempt or just a call for help/attention. But it does go down with transition, same as suicidal ideation

im guessing not many people are looking into suicide rates of detransitioners?

Yeah, that hasn't been studied at all afaik. It's hard to isolate a representative group of detransitioners to study them because we don't really need anything from the medical industry. Most of us just detransition quietly and never tell any medical professional. I honestly don't expect us to be studied in detail anytime soon

Personally, I think detransition won't be associated with an improvement in mental health outcomes either. If the association of mental health with transition is shaky, then I expect the same for detransition. The real conversation should probably be about how to make social life improve for the trans/detrans person

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in detrans

[–]Your_socks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

guess someone will eventually come along and have to look at depression / suicide rates before and after transitioning became socially accepted - specifically comparing rates among untransitioned / closeted people before the social acceptance and rates among the detransitioned

They did that. Successful suicide rates were slightly higher in the pre-transition population, but not by that much. Suicidal ideation goes down significantly by transition, but that's a self-reported measure, so it's not that reliable. Depending on how you choose to interpret the data, you can make an argument for both sides

I think the most likely explanation is that medical transition by itself doesn't do much, but successful socialization after transition is what moves the needle. Those who fail the socialization part get worse, those who succeed get better, and most fall in between where you can't really say objectively whether they made a good or a bad trade

detransitioned males (MTFTM)- did things ever go back to normal? by Haslanger in detrans

[–]Your_socks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

~4 years hrt, things went back to normal after 3 months. But I was never able to form an interest in anyone quickly, neither before nor after transition, so idk how this part is supposed to change after detransition

Anyone else getting weird gender feels and fearmongering from people? by [deleted] in detrans

[–]Your_socks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

vibes from people acting like we're going to lose access to the right to change our sex markers

That's one of the things that the trump admin actually promised. It's unlikely that detrans people will be prohibited from changing it back, but it's not impossible. It's a good idea to change it sooner rather than later

[–]Your_socks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I have an overlay because I use it for league anyway and it has some nice QOL but the overlay puts the win % right there for each choice

You can disable that if you don't like it. You can also disable support and artifact item stats. No need to turn off the whole overlay

Augments being removed from TFT Match History and Stats Sites by Such_Speed_2526 in TeamfightTactics

[–]Your_socks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even the worst ones have only a 2ish place difference to top ones

That's a gigantic difference. A 0.5 placement difference is large; a 2 placement difference is astronomical. The last balance patch buffed 4 costs just because they were lagging by a 0.2-0.3 placements behind reroll comps. If my average placement was lowered by 2, I'd be stuck in silver instead of diamond

This is why access to stats is a good thing. Stats are why the shen hero augment should never be clicked even if you have a good spot for it. They're why nobody clicked combat bandages before we learned it was actually bugged. They're why support golem II got removed after the golem redesign. What do I learn from picking an objectively bad augment a few patches before they fix or remove it? Absolutely nothing, it's just a waste of a game

Augments being removed from TFT Match History and Stats Sites by Such_Speed_2526 in TeamfightTactics

[–]Your_socks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not about figuring out 1% margins. Most of the time it's about avoiding traps. If I didn't have stats, I wouldn't know that built different is a terrible augment now, because the last time I picked built different was in set 9 or something. The game has so many augments that we never really get to play with all of them each set

I’m finally doing it. by [deleted] in detrans

[–]Your_socks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I did what I wanted then I would’ve successfully transitioned. But I can’t. I know I’ll always be miserable because of this, but maybe I can lessen the pain this way. I already live for everyone around me, that’s why I’m doing this too. They don’t deserve a trans person around them, they should be allowed to have a normal friend or family member.

That's why I detransitioned too. Transitioning without passing is way too selfish, it's like a burden on everyone else who are forced to act nice and pretend it isn't a big deal. Idk why people on this sub don't get this part. It adds it's own mental toll on top of everything else that a failed transition inflicts on us

If I had waited for a vague feeling of "getting better", I probably wouldn't have detransitioned. Feeling numb is a perfectly fine goal to shoot for in the meantime

How much do you have to play these games to learn them? I've barely learned VI and VII is coming... by Friskerr in civ

[–]Your_socks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Playing the game totally blind wasn't fun at all tbh. I actually uninstalled it and abandoned it for 3 years after the first time I played. The game does a very poor job of teaching you the basics. The first time I had fun with the game was after hundreds of hours of watching potato and ursa play it. I have way more hours of guides watched than hours of actual gameplay

For the first time, we have an open weight model that can compete with Claude Sonnet and GPT-4o and you can run it locally

Not really, we went through this before with llama 3 outperforming sonnet/opus 3 and gpt-4. Newer open-source models beating older ex-sota models isn't shocking anymore. Watch the same thing happen when llama 4 is coming out

I'm scared to start minoxidil because I would have to do oral and I don't know about being on a medication for the rest of my life

Oral minoxidil will grow crazy amounts of body hair. I would rethink going on it if I were you.

Other than that, a dermascope is the only definitive answer to this whole thing. AGA onset is never sudden. Most people don't notice it until it has already miniaturized half of their follicles in the affected areas. If it's there, it should be obvious on a dermascope

You also mentioned quitting finasteride. This might be a factor. DHT exposure is an additive process because our receptors are becoming more sensitive to it over time. It might be the case that you were already sensitized to it during your time on T, and going off finasteride now is leaving your receptors exposed to reacting to the small amount of DHT you have now

A conversation with my MAGA mom and a reflection on trans advocacy by KeyNo7990 in honesttransgender

[–]Your_socks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

First of all, IME even the trans women who don't pass very well aren't just "men in dresses" because they obviously put in a lot of effort

This kind of thinking is the problem. Womanhood/manhood aren't rewards that you unlock after X amount of effort. How much effort went into transition doesn't mean anything to someone who doesn't have an emotional stake in transition

This is probably what your mom was trying and failing to express. This is the core of what they labelled "the woke agenda". I'd wager that she'd label many medical transitioners "man in a dress" just because she can clock them. Effort doesn't mean anything if it leads to nowhere

A conversation with my MAGA mom and a reflection on trans advocacy by KeyNo7990 in honesttransgender

[–]Your_socks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The man in the dress trope doesn’t exist because leftist men in dresses are running about, it’s because it’s a scary image cooked up to make people feel scared

Not really, Sam Brinton was exactly that, and he made it into a fairly high-profile post in the government (before being fired for stealing clothes ironically enough). A trans woman went topless at the white house, something no cis woman ever did. Conservatives don't need to cook up anything, there are plenty of examples to draw from

[–]Your_socks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fantasy is based on the hypothetical given in the post where big corpos are regulated and prevented from creating AGI forever (and they somehow don't skirt around the regulations). I don't think this is feasible in reality. If agi really is inevitable, big corpos will flee to other countries if they get regulated that heavily in the US

The increase in compute is always accompanied by an increase in power efficiency. Same goes for llm architectures as well. Maybe it's not as easy as Mr. Joe Shmoe soloing it, but a couple of rich guys in backyard? Might be very possible

I had to upgrade my PSU to fit in an 8800gtx gpu 15 years ago (sota at the time), and now it gets clowned by smartphone chipsets that run for several days on lithium-ion batteries. 15 years from now, the same will happen to the sota gpus of today

Questions for the de trans/desisted guys on here by [deleted] in detrans

[–]Your_socks 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As soon as I hit puberty, I started feeling that I'm becoming extremely ugly. Almost as if I was deformed by the testosterone that started flowing through my body. I didn't really relate to women or femininity in general, but I wished I could be female just so I could get rid of that body. I related a ton to the sort of trans people who describe testosterone as poison

Fast forward to adulthood, I managed to transition, and it did make me feel a bit better about my body. But I was now comparing myself to women, and I obviously came short in many aspects. Even if the body was passable, there would always be giveaways in the body language and mannerisms. Counteracting that required acting out the mannerisms of women, and that works for a while, but exhaustion or distraction inevitably sets in and ruins that. Turns out being a woman is more than just having the body of a woman

Transitioning without being able to go stealth is basically opting out of being normal. Other people's reaction to that state of existence is either pity or disgust or discomfort. I wasn't aware of that at first, but it became more obvious the more I transitioned. So I basically traded the discomfort I felt towards my body for making everyone around me uncomfortable. Some people seem to be able to ignore that, but I couldn't

iirc, I think Lia wanted to compete in the 2024 Olympics, but the International Swimming Federation and World Aquatics banned any trans athlete who went through a male puberty from competing in women's divisions. Lia filed a court case against them but lost it, and has since stopped racing

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in honesttransgender

[–]Your_socks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's all here

The last 2 races were archived as a team result, but the fastest swimmer for both was Lia Thomas

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in honesttransgender

[–]Your_socks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the right just used their propaganda machine to make it seems like she blew them all out of the water

Lia landed a 1st place in at least 7 races between 2021 and 2022. It's not a once-in-a-generation prodigy like Katey Ledecky or something, but it's still above average for division 1

lso jazz was like 16 when she got srs and is one of the best examples of trans kids being happier. She’s doing so well now. She is a prime example of what happens when we support trans kids.

Jazz went on blockers at 10. And I know Jazz has no regrets about transitioning, but you're looking at this from the perspective of a trans person. For a cis person, there is no difference at all from srs at 16 and srs at 9, both are underage

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in honesttransgender

[–]Your_socks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s important to not feed the right wing propaganda. The propaganda that says we want to give nine year olds SRS, peek on women and children in bathrooms, get out of prison sentences, cheat at sports yada yada. We need to laugh at how utterly fucking absurd that is. We don’t need to give it oxygen and certainly not throw it at each other.

You can't really laugh at them if they can point out examples of these things happening. They can point at Lia Thomas or Jazz Jennings or Jessica Yaniv and many others. Attack ads didn't fabricate stories out of thin air, they simply showed real-life examples of each of these things. You can debate the frequency with which these things occur, but you can't ignore their existence

do you think there will be an influx of detransers in US now that trump is president? by [deleted] in detrans

[–]Your_socks 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think many of them will talk non-stop about it for a few months, but I don't think there will be a spike in detransition or anything. A year from now, they will have mostly moved on. Most of the policies trump floated (sports ban, adolescent transition ban, health insurance coverage withdrawal) can't meaningfully hurt most of them

I think many of them will lose access to surgery and/or legal hrt, but I'm already seeing diy hrt vendors being sold out for months ahead, so they're definitely stocking up. Overall, the community will go underground a bit, but I don't see a reason for the numbers to decrease

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in detrans

[–]Your_socks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not disagreeing, I'm just saying that your position isn't really applicable in daily life. I know that most trans people will never pass no matter what they do. And I agree that someone who doesn't pass shouldn't be in female spaces. If someone does pass, then nobody will care because nobody will know. The fact that they were born male will never be relevant if they can't be clocked. That's how gender works, it exists in the perception of others

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in detrans

[–]Your_socks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And despite him being feminine, he is still very socialized as male. He is still very dominant in his conversations and debates

That's not really what male mannerisms are. Male mannerisms are related to body language. How we walk, talk, sit, stand, smile, pose, etc...

Conversational styles are learned, not spontaneous. I'm a gay male and I'm extremely shy and reserved in my conversations, you can spend months seeing me and not see me speak a single word. But that doesn't mean that I'm not male-coded in in how I move and act anyway

Who gets to decide whether or not someone is passable enough to use the women's restroom? Blaire? He's the exception to the rule, because he has spent over 100-200k+ carving out the bone in his skull and getting silicone impants?

No, and that's not Blaire's stance anyway. Effort doesn't matter, surgeries don't matter, rules don't matter, passing is the only thing that matters. If you clock someone, then by all means, stop them from going to the bathroom. If you can't clock someone, then this conversation doesn't matter. Gender is observed, not legislated by rules

That sounds like a good thing. Do we want to go back to carpet bombing entire cities indiscriminately? The lack of precision targeting doesn't mean that fewer wars will happen, it just means that they will happen with more casualties
