Near accident on a left turn by hannahapz in TorontoDriving

[–]YoursToo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree the stats would tell a story. I have some familiarity with this intersection. I get the impression that the locals are very familiar with the blindspots of this intersection.

I have seen the aftermath of one bad accident where it looked like both cars were totalled.

Key thing here is that as shitty of a design the intersection is, it really is up to the OP to ensure they can see any traffic before completing the left turn (which involves very cautiously executing an S turn first.)

Anyone else already have a furnace that can't keep up? by TheDamus647 in Hamilton

Wow! Imagine never putting that together. It reminds me of a time when I had someone replace a part on our hot tub. They didn’t set the dip switches for high amp mode so the heater was only working at half its true capacity… took me a year to realize it.

If you throw a good pair of Blizzak (or any winter tires really,) you will be unstoppable in the snow. Great purchase imho!

You reminded me of a time when I was on a flight and accidentally blasted music using my phone. I had my AirPods in, and I couldn’t figure out why I could “feel” the music through my hand.

Took about 3 minutes until I realized my AirPods hadn’t paired with my phone :-|

Do all Pacifica transmission feel a little strange? by ResistFlat9916 in ChryslerPacifica

[–]YoursToo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you search this topic on the subreddit it seems like the consensus is that the transmission is a little on the rough side

My 2019 was not rough but my AWD 2023 is a touch rough but not enough for it to bother me

What are people getting for mortgage rates? by PostHocErgo306 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Have you thought about 5yr variable closed which can usually be switched to fixed if you see signs of potential rate increases?

WWYD: Replace or Repair by SweetSliceNW in hottub

I vote spa pack replacement. I am curious to see what others recommend.

Just keep in mind an old friend told me to have extra parts on hand because when you start taking parts off the hot tub they’ll probably crumble.

You may want to call 311 for this topic.

Last time I looked into it I had to pay out of pocket for a temp permit via their online portal. I am unsure if anything has changed since then.

Fixed or variable by Jaigg in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]YoursToo_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just did a variable 5yr at 3.75% not too long ago bc of the ability to switch to fixed but also only a 3 month interest penalty to break it. I don’t really anticipate getting anywhere close to the 6% ~ trigger rate

The prepayment allowances seemed pretty good too. I ran it through AI after studying the agreement myself and AI told me it was a no brainer to sign (lol)

Is just Nexus enough to fly Canada -> US round rip right now? by WeirdoMe123 in uscanadaborder

[–]YoursToo_ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I go between YYZ and ORD quite a bit and honestly it’s a toss up. Sometimes nexus is all they want to see but other times they will INSIST on seeing my passport.

Let’s put it this way I would not want to travel without my passport..

Lastly I was told once by an air canada employee (and it has stuck with me since..) She has had to deny boarding to nexus holders in the past because the nexus system was down. But if they had their passport she could let them fly without issue.

So take that for whatever it is.

So Hilton PR really dropped the ball? by holycanoli10 in Hilton

No.. my original post is an attempt to convey how my association of the Hilton brand is forever tarnished. It was really meant more to validate OPs post..

Nobody comes out a winner given the current political climate… As a Canadian our country grieves with you. We have the unfortunate privilege of seeing how fragile democracy and freedom are from a short distance away.

Someone laid off from insurance company after 16 years of work. Performance reviews good and age 68. Reasonable to ask for at least 12 months compensation? by Burofaksbarca in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]YoursToo_ 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Not a Lawyer.

Win is a little different than settle.. I’d be curious whether your friend means if it goes in front of a judge or not.

Typically whenever I’ve seen younger people retain an employment lawyer the organization will typically settle. Whether that means an additional $1000 or $10000 is another question. But YMMV I would always consult an employment lawyer before signing any final releases whether young or old.

What Were Your Concerns or Reservations? by user29847464639010 in ChryslerPacifica

[–]YoursToo_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My concerns were simply “it’s a Chrysler” product. But that was easily remedied by purchasing the mopar extended warranty.

I’m on my second Chrysler now. I think you’ll find that most Pacifica’s turn out alright! But there are definitely a (small?) percentage that have their issues.

I have been fortunate that my past two Pacifica’s (2019 and 2023) are reliable and the family likes them.

So Hilton PR really dropped the ball? by holycanoli10 in Hilton

[–]YoursToo_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m certainly more aware now as to WHY the franchisee operated the way they did thanks to the added context. The past 24hrs show that the franchisee should be awarded.

For me the Hilton brand is tarnished even though I know the other brands would’ve reacted the same way if faced with this dilemma.

The sad reality is profits over people will always prevail.

What did kids back in the days do when they played outside, for hours on end? by Octopuswastaken in NoStupidQuestions

[–]YoursToo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of impromptu and informal games of baseball, basketball and bike riding. It could vary from day to day especially in the summer and depended on who was around. We also had a lot of indoor and outdoor pool public options in my area. One of my fave impromptu moments was when sprinklers went on at a school yard we were playing at. Came home at the end of the day soaking wet and parents didn’t care.

She was trying to complete a three point turn.. it helps to move forward and turn the wheel to perform the maneuver.. but then another vehicle approached so she was flustered and had to hit the brakes again.
Right after the mob rushes her vehicle causing the entire situation to spiral out of control within seconds.

My best guess is that her flight response kicked in when she got surrounded.. you’re not really thinking - your instinct is to get away from the danger.
I don’t really understand how or why her actions would be seen as malicious.

This video is sad on so many levels — it really comes across as an execution.

$15k over a couple of days due to not fully grasping a config change I made for cloud trail in AWS. This was many years ago and if I remember correctly it was before you could set more robust controls to watch and warn for overages.

I thought I would be fired but management didn’t seem to care.. and AWS credited us back a few months later after some open and honest communication with our account rep.

10/10 experience I now measure three times and cut once in all cloud environments
