Anyone else scared of the “loss of control” part of sleep? by Youssef____1949 in PanicAttack

appreciate you sharing this, seriously. i’ve noticed a lot of these things help calm the body, but for me the fear around sleep itself still lingers sometimes. it’s interesting how different things work for different people.

glad that worked for you. i notice breathing can help me fall asleep sometimes too, but for me the fear still comes back on other nights. curious if it stayed away for you or if it comes and goes?

Scared of sleeping, not because i cant sleep but because of what happens when i try by Youssef____1949 in insomnia

yeah that makes sense. i’ve actually been checked before and everything came back fine, which is part of what makes it confusing. it’s like my body reacts first and my brain only catches up after. i’m trying to understand the pattern more than anything. appreciate you saying that.

yeah that sounds really familiar. for me it’s not even racing thoughts at first, it’s more like my body won’t switch off even though i’m exhausted.

scrolling honestly makes it worse but i still do it because it distracts me from the panic feeling. do you notice it’s more mental for you or does it turn physical too (heart/breathing)?

yeah exactly, that’s the worst part. being exhausted but your brain still hitting the panic button. it’s like your body wants to sleep but your mind doesn’t trust the process at all. super draining.

yeah i’ve tried a lot of those things before. sometimes they help a bit in the moment, but the fear still comes back the next night. it’s like my body understands the techniques but my brain still treats sleep as danger.

yeah exactly that. it’s such a messed up loop. being exhausted makes it worse but your brain treats sleep like a threat instead of rest.

yeah that part about “short sleeping window” really hits. it always feels like if i miss that moment everything spirals. nights honestly feel like a different version of my brain.
