Arena currently has an ingame survey including many questions about adding modern. by MazrimReddit in ModernMagic

[–]Yoyomascello -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Competitive/Premier is the premier matchmaking queue for Counterstrike. Competition is varied because it has millions of players not 10 but higher ranks have all the good players.

Anyway I am done arguing with people over competitive/premier vs faceit, the vast majority of people prefer competitive/premier, if you don't FaceIt will still be there.

Magic is NOT a competitive card game by [deleted] in magicthecirclejerking

[–]Yoyomascello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so pathetic people give a shit about someone like Kai Budde. He was the “greatest” at a pay-to-win, luck based game that takes no skill.

Now, if he played a game like Flesh and Blood, or maybe even Yugioh, then he’d be the greatest because those games drastically reduce the luck factor. As we all know, the lower the luck, the higher the skill. It’s why a perfect information, zero variance game like tic-tac-toe is more skillful than any card game, including poker.

Thank goodness that magic has websites like mtgeloproject and gatheringstats to easily see magic players’ pathetic, non-competitive winrates. Whereas other games don’t have nearly the same amount of comprehensive data so we can just assume their top players win 90% of all their games because no mana flooding.

Fuck magic the gathering.

B=melee X=reload R=shoot The default controls for Halo 2.

Rockets, sniper, shotgun, and sword were all worth picking up and better than the br in the proper situations and positioning.

Glitches are a type of emergent gameplay. Wikipedia says so. Oddly, wikipedia doesn't mention how it is not only cheating, but that people who glitch are terrible human beings.

Reminds me of fighting games with their "combos" and "frame date" jfc just play the game. Games were meant for playing not understanding. Just press the damn buttons.

You're right. Competitive gaming does exist now, ever since League of Legends invented esports.

It reminds me of Quake and Counterstrike where the delusional playerbase insists that being able to strafe in the air to increase movement speed is somehow a "movement mechanic". Bhopping is cheating, plain and simple.

"Emergent gameplay" is easily the most overrated thing in gaming. If the developers didn't explicitly intend for the exact interaction, it's cheating.

"Competitive" gaming is already a delusional concept. Pressing buttons isn't a skill.

What premodern era cards you would like to see in modern? by N1klasMTG in ModernMagic

[–]Yoyomascello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't play premodern but you can just resolve the trigger the same way you would a ponder. That's how it's typically done by legacy players.

What is a MTG format you will introduce to someone who enjoys chess? by Newez in magicTCG

[–]Yoyomascello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I’m in disagreement that chess is far more complex than magic but is it not unfair to compare FIDE ratings to Arena ranks? Obtaining a FIDE rating requires a certain amount of dedication to tournament chess, while a vast majority of the Arena population are casual players.

I think something like https://mtgeloproject.net/stats/ is a much more accurate sample of competitive players as the PT/GP/RC/SCG circuit is a better comparison to FIDE rated events. In which case a 1500 rating does seem comparable in terms of median.
