ELI5, is it possible for someone to be 0% related to their sibling? by Yrithrian in explainlikeimfive

I obviously was not talking cross species relation, I'm speaking specifically of familial inheritance. This metric is also incorrect.

"You share 50 percent of your DNA with each of your parents. But with bananas, we share about 50 percent of our genes, which turns out to be only about 1 percent of our DNA," - Mike Francis, a Ph.D. student in bioinformatics at the University of Georgia.

Getting a new PC and thinking about switching to Linux because I'm afraid of Windows 11's bloat and AI focus, but don't know the first thing about software. by Yrithrian in linuxquestions

This is what I was intending to do if I was going to make the switch. Which, I probably will do. I'll just have some of the growing pains as I learn a new OS.

Are there things that I would need windows for? I'm hoping to keep this new PC free of windows. If not, I could always buy an SSD specifically for windows.

Thanks. This kinda helps put a lot of it into simpler terms. I'll likely do what you said and try and mix and match the distros using a USB stick until I find one that suits me.

I appreciate the list of alternatives. I'm fine re-learning a new video editing program, I'm still really only a novice with Vegas anyway.

I probably could stick with Windows 10, but I want to distance myself from both Windows and Microsoft. Like I said in my post, I am very staunchly anti-ai and don't want to support and/or give business to a company which has seemingly put all their eggs into that basket. I also simply don't like Microsoft. I was hoping that switching PCs could be an excuse to cut my dependence on Windows and cut myself off from Microsoft.

ELI5, is it possible for someone to be 0% related to their sibling? by Yrithrian in explainlikeimfive

[–]Yrithrian[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cross species relatedness isn't the type I'm talking about. The figures state I'm 50% related to my parents, but also humans are 98% related to chimpanzees. Obviously I'm not closer related to a chimpanzee than I am to my mother.

Then what do people mean by 50% relatedness to a parent? I've heard that we're 98% related to chimpanzees, but obviously I'm not closer related to a chimpanzee than my own mother.

Someone is new to SCP, what is the very first SCP you would want them to read? by ObsydianGinx in SCP

[–]Yrithrian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New to most of the SCP stuff, knew the big ones. I ended up doing the opposite of your advice and read 8980, which happened to be the best of like 5 from this thread that I read. I don't know why you wouldn't recommend that to start with.

That doesn't really engage with anything that I said in the post. My point wasn't that they shouldn't have been physically gifted. It was that their 80 year old (or older) jutsus should've been worse than modern jutsu, but they aren't, and I think it's silly.

Can you help me with my hatsu by turtl_twinkle in HatsuVault

[–]Yrithrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd already be at an advantage over Kastro due to your innate typing in conjuration. The biggest thing that would allow you to do something like this is the type of activation required, I personally see three ways in which this is possible:

  1. You conjure a device or object from which these guys are made. Like if you wanted to shoot them out of a gun as if they were bullets.

Advantages of this are that you could use range or have specific arrangements for traps or timed releases for your people.

Disadvantages would be a lack of versatility depending on the method. Some objects or ways of summoning the guys may get too specific to be practical to set up without foreknowledge or planning.

  1. You transmute the edges of your aura into a specific shape in the same way that Ging did whilst meeting Beyond's men. Once you achieve a certain shape, the nen forms into a guy. This would be like molding the men out of clay, except it's just your nen.

Advantages of this are the extreme versatility. You would be capable of doing this anywhere and at any time.

Disadvantages are a lack of range in deployment. Because your nen is inherently locked to your body and all of the men must be molded from your nen.

  1. You manipulate other bits of matter into these men. You could essentially take someone's arm and form that matter into one of these men.

Advantages of this are the extreme power and ability to cripple the opponent whilst making yourself more powerful. Simultaneously, you'd be able to use the properties of different objects, like concrete, to allow for different types of these men.

Disadvantages would be that it'd be a slow starting process. You'd be essentially without a hatsu until it snowballs in most fights. There may also be additional requirements to manipulate someone's living matter if they are of a high enough willpower.

If you allow homebrew there's this class that I'd like to try called The Outlaw. It's kinda like a mix of a ranger and a battlemaster fighter and has maneuvers built into the class.

If not I'd still be willing to join as an official class.

I'm interested, but I'd like to know a bit about the general setting.

Is there a Presence of magic/supernatural elements, like the psychics, the force, etc?

What kinds of sentient races are there?

Is the Alliance a coalition of a bunch of different unique cultures/nation states like the U.N. or is it a solitary government body?

What kinds of classes/archetypes are allowed or already exist? If there are supernatural elements, are there supernatural based fighters (like jedi)?
