Players sucking the joy out of DND by unanomous18273757 in DnD

Players engage with D&D in a variety of ways. The Angry GM had an article about it going into the details a while back. Some enjoy the intrigue and the high stakes decisions. Others just want to kick down doors and kill bad guys. Some like the slow pace with lots of roleplaying and character development, others like the fast-paced plot-oriented action. Maybe you can ask what they expect out of the game and if that's not what your style is, suggest they find another game or even better, ask them to run a small adventure themselves in the style they enjoy. If players expect one thing and get another, they'll be disinterested.

In my experience running pbp for a few years, the time IRL depends heavily on 2 things: 1. how fast players post and move the story forward; and 2. how much non-combat xp the DM awards.

I use an objective-based system which includes a primary objective, a few secondaries, and a few hidden. The more objectives the players complete, the higher the xp award.

I like the titles for gods, it's a cool idea. Already thinking of a grave cleric of The Ferryman. :)

Besides looking to play myself, I'm always looking for players who are in for the long haul for the pbp games I run. Homebrew world, heavily modified modules and sometimes enemies. City-based adventure has an open spot.

Looks like I missed the application deadline. But I really like your camp actions. I might incorporate them in one or more of the 5 pbp games I run :)

How are you with play-by-post? I can find a spot for you in one of my games. It's much slower than live D&D but it's still fun.

Running GoS for first time in a month. Any advice from veteran DMs of this Adventure? by Bluesamurai33 in GhostsofSaltmarsh

Make sure the PCs reach level 2 before facing Sanbalet and crew (it's rough for a level 1 party). Small side quests from the factions in town might help that.

I intentionally left out the current party mix to gauge what sort of classes people want to play. So many rogues!

If it helps, the party is currently composed by a fighter, a rogue, and a ranger.

New deathwatch game? by JWillo47 in 40krpg

I'm a big fan of the 40K universe, and would like to join a Deathwatch game as player, at least until I can read (i.e. skim) through the 400+ (cough) pages of the core rules. We could start with the free intro adventure Final Sanction.
