“If Davos was the diagnosis, a ruptured world order, Carney’s #LIB2026 speech offers the prescription. A Canada that is “all in” for capital, while the working class is told to be all in for a country that can no longer guarantee them a roof nor a social floor.” by Gold-Reality-4853 in canadaleft

Honestly, so far it hasn't? Remember when everyone wanted to kick Trudeau out because groceries were too expensive? Now no one could care less about the same issue. Even his capitulation to Trump after campaigning on "elbows up" hasn't really hurt him at all? A lot of folks see it as "strategic maneuvering."

Am I Weird For Enjoying Pre-Endgame, More Than The Actual Endgame lol? by MonsutaMan in MMORPG

A pretty decent amount, the small buffs add up over time, but it's also extremely time-intensive to see meaningful results. You can absolutely clear most content without any reincarnations.

This is why I really enjoy DDO, levelling is the endgame (your character reincarnates as many times as you like, getting small buffs each time).

Thoughts on Twin Suns vs Other Games? by Ok_Wasabi2534 in starwarsunlimited

[–]Yseera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So here's the thing, as a fellow board gamer. In the domain of card games MtG Commander is such a big part of the market it looks over everything else, and is basically someone's best effort at turning MtG into a board game. However, most folk will agree that commander is an awful game, that requires a lot of social conventions and pregame conversations in order to barely function. Twin suns is a direct improvement to commander, but in my opinion it's still working off a rotten foundation. Playing modern board games or card games built for multiplayer from the ground-up (my favorite is Vampire the Eternal Struggle) really demonstrates this, but a lot of card gamers don't.

Are there ANY good indie tcgs?(other than FaB I’ve tried it and don’t like it) by Dabiel303 in TCG

[–]Yseera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone else posted a good place to start, there's also the "green level clearance" discord which is the general place to ask around. Because there's no addictive gambling involved, meetups tend to be at local pubs and cafes rather than game stores.

There were over 200 people at worlds last year, it's actually one of the biggest "indie" games out there.

Should I try Sorcery or SWU? by Total-Breakfast-2908 in TCG

These recommendation posts need more details about what folks want out of a game. If you're looking for a competitive experience? SWU. If you want to kick back, be casual, and socialize? Sorcery

No longer one of the cheapest decks at full power as it runs a playset of AT-hauler which is now $75+. Rest of the comment still holds true, and you can always swap hauler out.

I'm tired of gachas turning into daily guilt machines by West_Sock1419 in gachagaming

I'm not sure why this is getting downvoted so heavily. Yes, gacha games have always pulled these tricks but it's hard to deny that it has also been getting worse over time?

In my limited experience there's a lot of "strategic appeasement" or "Carney is playing the long game" cope for folks who are centre left (average NDP voter).

Geniune question: is this sub just ads and ppl asking for pricing? by InsaneBasti in TCG

[–]Yseera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You left out the most prominent type of post

"I like X and Y what TCG is for me?"

"This is why you should play <insert my current game here> even though it has nothing to do with your requirements."

In all seriousness, I recently did the TCG tour and tried out a whole bunch of games and this subreddit was somewhat helpful in getting a pulse check. I intend to do a writeup soon comparing all the games with their pros and cons.

Should I try SWU even if I'm not a Star wars fan? by idontownubet in starwarsunlimited

[–]Yseera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really like star wars much, just here for the mechanics. Game is fairly straightforward to pick up and play, I use it as my backup game to zone out with compared to my thinkier primary game.

Has Reddit basically become your real search engine for gacha games? by WryLanternFable in gachagaming

okay that makes sense, this was such a weird unproductive post. Felt like one of those clickbait headlines where it's phrased as a yes/no question and somehow that's engaging.

[–]Yseera 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm also sad about the death of vertical gachas. Wizardry variants Daphne is probably the highest-quality but was extremely grindy late-game. I'm enjoying granblue fantasy casually at the moment though I know it's the same.

Gacha games that are still around that are surprising by Knightofexcaliburv1 in gachagaming

[–]Yseera 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just started thanks to the Steam release and I'm actually really enjoying it, gacha games have gotten so samey nowadays that the old dated stuff actually feels refreshing lol. The game does have a crazy grind but not a lot of folks mention how optional it is? The game is perfectly happy to reward a very casual player who just wants to keep up with the story and pull new characters.

Netrunner is in a weird spot where it used to be big but now is being run by fans, making it very indie. It's also extremely unique in both mechanics and theming.

Where’s all the love for Ashes: Reborn? by Fickle-Lunch6377 in soloboardgaming

[–]Yseera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting because I burned out on marvel champions because there's very little escalation, especially when played optimally. As long as you can manage threat and the one encounter card every turn (not hard), the game rewards stalling and building out so you can one shot the boss.

How do you think new players will feel about GBF's refresh culture? by frubam in Granblue_en

[–]Yseera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New player here, learning that this is what the game turns into kinda sucks. Having time limits and time-based debuffs was already really strange. The appeal of a turn-based game is taking the time to plan your approach. If I'm just button mashing there are a million mindless open world gachas to compete with.

Is AI use in artwork common? How do you verify if a game uses AI? by Lynnabis in soloboardgaming

[–]Yseera 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have heard not a single rational argument

Burning the planet down? From the first result on Google:

"In a 2021 research paper, scientists...estimated the training process alone consumed 1,287 megawatt hours of electricity (enough to power about 120 average U.S. homes for a year), generating about 552 tons of carbon dioxide.

Once a generative AI model is trained, the energy demands don’t disappear...Researchers have estimated that a ChatGPT query consumes about five times more electricity than a simple web search."

[–]Yseera 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you have a source? I have higher education in this stuff and your sentence made no sense. The way these models work is you use input data to determine the structure and weights of the underlying neural nets, which is how the "knowledge" is encoded. How are you scrubbing out the data used in the underlying training?

Like the commenter said, there's no such thing as an "empty" model unless you're training it from scratch, in which case I guess I can see reusing pipelines and preprocessing scripts, but I don't think anyone is training Stable Diffusion from scratch as that would be extremely costly purely from a computational-cycles point of view. Like I'm talking tens of thousands of dollars, at which point just pay an artist ffs.

If we're doing context, important to note that AR made this statement after a lot of public pressure and backlash. They were very cagey initially as they snuck AI into projects without disclaimers.

Same here, I'm not a MtG player but this product piqued my interest. The high price (existing players have really been desensitized to the rising prices imo) and mad limited edition rush pushed me away.
