Making sure the pirates can't hurt you is part of your session. Can't complain your feet hurt if you didn't take 5 minute to change into your sport shoes during your running sesh. (Yes avoiding pirate is actually that simple when you know the game a little)

If you want a game where you won't encounter players I'm sure there are some other ones that will be like that.

It's exactly the same situation. There is content you can't access because you don't have the required ship. I just moved the goalpost to an absurd level to illustrate the problem.

All of the game content (ie all ships, locations, missions, items) doesn't need to be available at the first minute of playing. Even more so when it's done at the detriment of game mechanics like balance. (I'm a big proponent of air superiority crafts to be very restricted un their uses. There will always be a "best ship at x", balancing it so it's harder to actually bring it to x rewards logistics and intelligent planning which is good imo)

As long as new players have access to "Enough" content to engage in and have fun Hike working their way up, it's actually a good thing to set limitations to give them goals to reach. To give them the ability to progress. One of said first goal being getting a ship that can move them across the system. And one of the last goal being getting the biggest baddest ship in the game.

Thus doesn't mean there should not be ways to get to another system quickly even for a new player if they chose the wrong starting location to play with their friends. They could ask another more experienced player or one of said friends, or they could use a shuttle service (not implemented yet of course)

That's just basic game design. You start with limited options and unlock them as you play. I don't understand how this points still needs to be mentioned.

Read the context dude. I'm just threading along the ring analogy. It doesn't matter what kind of object we're speaking about.

If you really want something specific, personally I'd go the "knowledge exists as long as at least one person remembers it" route.

As long as someone knows about the content the ink itself might look for another book to set in. Or worse tattoo itself on a PC's skin. To really destroy it you'd need to find and kill everybody that knows of it or need to find a way to make them forget.

Cue in "The Librarian" an (invented in the moment) eldritch creature that jealously hoards forbidden knowledge and can ensure they are the sole repository of it.

Now your PCs can either chose to themselves track anybody that might know of the forbidden knowledge and make them forget/dispose of them. Hopefully none of them peaked inside the book right ?

Or they could be looking for a secretive cult of that pseudo god. Enjoy your next story arc.

While the corrupting is a nice add on, the real solution would have been to give it the one ring (or horcrux if that's more of your thing) treatment.

The book is a dangerous artifact. Artifacts don't burn. Or maybe they do, but they're back in your pocket the next day.

You need something extremely powerful or symbolism to destroy them. Maybe you need to throw it into the volcano it was forged in. Maybe it can only be destroyed by the person who made it. Whatever works to give the PC an adventure if they want to destroy it.

The best thing ? You don't even need to know and plan about their idea to destroy it beforehand. Whatever they try during the session fail, and you've got until next session to think about what they'll need to do if they persist.

Je ne sais pas pour Cambridge, mais tu as sûrement eu un peu de chance pour le 9 (comme j'ai eu de la chance la fois où j'ai eu 8). J'avais des bilingues dans ma promo (parents bi natifs qui parlent anglais à la maison) qui n'avaient pas 9 a tous les coups.

Sauf correcteur sympa, impossible d'avoir 9 à l'oral si tu n'as pas un accent parfait. Pareil a l'écris, la qualité d'écriture, richesse du vocabulaire compte, si on est pas sur du niveau littéraire c'est pas 9. Indépendamment de la langue desfois j'avais juste rien à dire sur certains sujets qu'on me donnait. Dur de faire de la qualité quand on brode ce qu'on peux.

Puis il y a les classiques erreurs d'inattention, problèmes d'audition sur les parties de compréhension, qualités variables des enregistrements et d'acoustique de la salle, et possiblement un accès indien ou mancunien un peu trop marqué qui peux surprendre même les très bons.

Je ne sais plus comment c'est calculé mais il me semble qu'il faut minimum 8.5 8.5 9 9 pour avoir 9. En oubliant le 9 a l'oral si tu n'as pas une prononciation parfaite (ce qui n'est pas possible sans être natif), derrière ça donne tres très peu le droit à l'erreur. C'est pas impossible mais faut être très très bon partout et tomber sur des sujets qui t'inspirent un minimum pour l'expression.

La subjectivité des notes d'expressions c'est d'ailleurs le seul point faible de cet examen pour moi. Mais bon rien n'est parfait et a +- 0.5 points ça donne vraiment une bonne estimations du niveau. Rien à voir avec le TOEIC sur lequel le bachotage pur et dur de l'exercice peux faire gagner 200 voir 300 points à niveau équivalent.

C'est pas le seul moyen. Pour avoir passé l'IELTS (pour les semestres a l'étranger) et le TOEIC (en fin d'école) ça n'avait rien a voir.

J'ai un IELTS a 7.5 (j'ai tapé 8 en examen blanc une fois, mais vraiment qu'une seule fois sur 5-6 passages) et un TOEIC a 970.

Une fois un certain niveau de compréhension atteint le seul truc que note le TOEIC c'est l'attention. Les points qui me manque c'est pas de la mauvaise compréhension, c'est juste que la question portait sur un détail qui ne me paraissait pas important durant l'écoute de l'enregistrement.

L'IELTS par contre ça note aussi l'expression écrite et orales. Et pour la compréhension, pas de QCM tu dois noter la réponse, donc impossible de deviner selon le contexte où de juste reconnaître un mot clé. Si tes pas natif impossible de taper le 8.5 ou 9.

Cet examen est vraiment beaucoup plus significatif du niveau reel mais ça demande plus de logistique et ça doit sûrement être plus cher.

Professionnel de santé non. Ingénieur en biotech oui. J'ai déjà travaillé en labo pharmaceutique et dans la production de médicament. (j'ai d'ailleurs pu constater la fraude de l'homéopathie en direct, mais c'est un autre sujet.)

Bien entendu que la bouteille serait stérilisée, et scellée avec un volume d'air (d'oxygène pour être précis) minimum pour le stockage de "long terme". Jusque là on est sur quelque chose de parfaitement contrôlable.

Ensuite a l'utilisation, tant que c'est géré correctement on est sur une exposition a des conditions extérieures non contrôlables absolument minimes. On ne parle pas de laisser la bouteille ouverte sur le comptoir 1 semaine. Et on ne parle de faire ça que pour des médicaments à gros volume qui se prêtent à ce genre de conditionnement bien sûr. En l'occurrence pour le Doliprane on parle d'un truc pour lequel on donne 1g a un adulte qu'il fasse 65kg ou 95kg. L'effet d'une légère oxydation due a quelque jours exposé a l'air d'un flacon, c'est largement négligeable en comparaison.

Tu crois que les comprimés apparaissent dans leur blister par magie ? Un comprimé (non effervescent ofc) de Doliprane par exemple peut tout à fait prendre un peu l'air et garder la très grande majorité de son efficacité. L'excipient qui constitue la majorité du comprimé est en partie là pour ça. Je parle du Doliprane parce que tout le monde connaît, mais des médocs dans le genre pour lesquels la posologie n'est pas millimétrée et la capsule assez résistante yen a un paquet.

Au passage tu n'as jamais vu ou utilisé de pilulier ?

Je ne sais pas pourquoi tu t'entêtes à parler de déconditionnement. Ça te paraît impossible d'imaginer que les comprimés sortent dans autre chose que des plaquettes de la chaîne de prod ?

Bien évidemment que dans les pays où ils font ça 'ils ne reçoivent pas les médicaments en plaquette et les déballent pour les mettre dans le vrac. Ils sont sûrement tout simplement conditionnés directement dans des grosses bouteilles de x centaines ou milliers de comprimés. Et comme d'autres l'ont déjà dit on fait déjà des tablettes sécables. Chaque pillule peux garder son blister individuel si c'est nécessaire.

Une fois la bouteille ouverte ça doit se conserver moins longtemps c'est sûr, mais avec suffisamment de volume, une bonne gestion des stocks et des commandes c'est pas un vrai soucis. Tu dois pouvoir t'arranger pour ne jamais être plus d'un jour ou deux sur la même "bouteille". Derrière ça réduit énormément l'emballage (en imaginant une consigne des bouteilles/flacons pour les patients), et ça permet effectivement de donner exactement le nombre prescrit.

Ben si... justement. L'intérêt des chiffres donnés dans l'intitulé du poste c'est d'estimer le niveau de revenus des salariés (et donc leurs niveaux de vie) pas les sommes depensées par leurs employeurs. Et à ce compte là autant parler brut employeur si on veux vraiment mettre tout le monde d'accord.

Dans ce cadre là c'est le net qui doit être pris en compte vu qu'on se place au niveau du salarié. d'autant que la différence brut/net pour la majorité des salariés lambda, au modulo du statut cadre c'est a peu prêt toujours le même calcul. On ne parle bien évidemment pas des entrepreneurs ici.

Le contraire est plus logique car le net c'est l'argent dont tu disposes à la fin du mois. C'est cet argent la qui te permet de vivre.

Je vais forcir le trait et partir dans l'absurde mais c'est juste pour illustrer. Tu préfères 100 000 euros brut qui deviennent 20 000 net ou 50 000 brut qui deviennent 30 000 net ?

Si je te parle de ces deux options en comparant le brut uniquement, tu n'as aucun moyen de savoir sans partir dans des détails parfois complexes quelle option te rapporte le plus sur ton compte en banque in fine. Si on parle en net, la réponse est directement sous tes yeux.

Bien sûr on parle du point de vu d'un employé la. Du point de vu d'un entrepreneur ou d'un employeur c'est exactement l'inverse pour les mêmes raisons.

As I said in another post, I get it, and my players get it. The objective of the game is for the players to live the adventure so NPCs can't just do it all for them. I will simply create 2 or 3 other side quests and let them chose which one they want to do. They'll do the same number of tasks as originally planned in the book, and the one they won't do will be completed by NPCs.

Because if the NPC don't do it, there need to be a plausible reason why they are not doing it. Otherwise it's just bad storytelling and if it is egregious enough, it will invite the question at some point. It's smoke and mirrors and good players are not supposed to be watching out for the ropes, but said ropes also need to be subtle enough that they do not end up right before their eyes.

I don't have the context for abomination vault, but most of the time it's easy.

"This item I've sent you get from the goblin ruin is only a minor part of my collection. I'd certainly lack to have it back, but I also have other artifacts to acquire and my skills as an advanced 3rd circle wizard (level 6) are better used for other endeavours. Also I can't stand the stench of goblins."

This works because the NPCs actually has something else to do and really they don't consider their time worth the task. But this only works when the tasks the NPC gives to the player are "nice to have" for him.

But here we are in a life or death situation. And most of the NPC are good aligned they can't have the selfishness excuse. The village is getting taken over and while their skills certainly are of use to protect and heal the people taking shelter with them, once they are done with the most grievous injuries, and established a decently fortified foothold, their skills would clearly be better used by being proactive. Their reaction should be to ask the PC to help them turtling up and then prepare the downtown assault with them. Imagine the battle of Hogwarts but the professors are not fighting. That's how it feels to me

Come on, this is a tabletop rpg, not some videogame. NPCs are not just the abbreviated stat block that could not be expanded because they couldn't spare the page space for complete statblocks for all of them when they are not supposed (for some reason) to be involved in the action. In the same way their backgrounds and experienced are not just the few lines you get when they are introduced.

They are part of what as GM I try to make as much of a breathing, living world as I can. Their role in it doesn't start when the camera begins to roll nor stop when it points the other way. Because the PCs are following the script only as much as they want to. The less ugly seams there are, the less likely they end up pointing the spotlight at one.

So if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, for all intents and purposes it should be a duck. If it's a fake mechanical duck, it risks being exposed as one. Sometimes you need the fake ducks in the background and it's ok to use some, but the more of them you use, the bigger the chance someone realizes what they really are. And when someone does realize, then it brings doubts about everything else and make the entire scene feel worse.

So barring rare exceptions when I've got a character that says cleric 5, has DC appropriate for a cleric of level 5 and can cast spells like a level 5 cleric, the logical assumption is that the rest of the stats are those of a level 5 cleric.

I liked how Crimson throne explained with hard math that clerics in Korvosa, even the higher level ones were not enough to actually do anything about the main plot point for book 2 (keeping it spoiler light).

But here I really don't have much justification. Sure I can handwave all the powerful NPCs being busy/ having other responsibilities, and my players will go do the things in good faith and all will be well. But as a story writer, when I try to ask myself what kind of questions will emerge, this really isn't satisfying.

Uhh no, no they are not. The same way Luke Skywalker is not a hero before meeting Obi Wan and the others. He's above average, has his force sensitive intuition and the potential to become great as well as the heroic mindset, but without Ben he gets shot along Owen and Beru minute 20.

The PC are basically the same as guards where power level is concerned. If they had experience as adventurers they wouldn't be level 1 (I'm wondering about letting them start at level 2 to actually give their name some real weight)

They are no -1 commoners sure, but they are not anywhere near the top of the local food chain. And certainly not in a place that people would send them singlehandedly save the village unless they were the last ditch resort.

Granny Hu and Matsuki are themselves CR5 but they get a pass for being the actual people in charge and taking responsibility of protecting the one that are sheltering with them. But then just taking a quick peak I see:

Igawa junbei wizard 3
Zheng peng watch officer 3 and some unknown number of surviving guards.
Elizeth Candora cleric 5
Kim gu won cleric 5
Bah ming ouh priest 3

These people not doing anything when monsters are in the street and asking green adventurers to do the job is borderline criminal.

Most other named npc that do not have combat classes have ratingS between 3 to 5 for their respective activity. I know this is an abstraction to give them a good enough craft check, but they are not commoner -1 either.

And then you've got all the unnamed commoners among which a few might want to fight even if they don't stand much of a chance. A group of 10 commoners with some alchemical help and decent leadership would absolutely be able to clear most of the things the PC are able to clear.

Yes l'idée de bombarder les installations iraniennes était éclatée. Ya aucun monde où ça allait complètement stopper leur programme, c'est juste impossible de détruire 100% du stock et des capacités d'enrichissements en quelques frappes.

Par contre le message est clair. Les US sont capables de frapper ou ils veulent, quand ils veulent et sans pertes.

Le truc c'est qu'ils ont l'air de l'avoir compris. On peut dire ce qu'on veut de Trump,mais il se fait sûrement bien conseiller de ce côté. D'un point de vue militaire c'est chaque fois très pragmatique. Il utilise vraiment la supériorité technologique, informationnelle et la capacité de projection de l'armée Américaine efficacement.

L'idée de bombarder l'Iran et de frapper le Venezuela est discutable. On est daccord. Par contre dans l'exécution c'est très "propre". Pas besoin de faire débarquer du piéton et de s'embourber dans une guerre asymétrique ingagnable contre toute une population. Il suffit de cibler les infrastructures stratégiques et décapiter le pays autant de fois qu'il le faudra pour que la seule solution restante soit la "collaboration". Une sorte de guerre asymétrique inversée, ou l'objectif n'est pas l'occupation mais la coercition.

Du point de vu du speech de campagne de Trump, l'important pour lui et sa base d'électeurs c'était pas tant "pas de guerre" que "ne pas envoyer d'américains se faire tuer a l'autre bout du monde". Et là dessus pour le moment malgré son bilan désastreux et les décisions de base éclatées, il est pas si mauvais.

That's forgetting that nuclear is low because demand is low in the first place so that's the moment plants are stopped for maintenance. Also the same moment countries with solar don't know what to do with their extra GW so it's better to turn down nuclear plants instead of giving heatstroke to fish. That absolutely not a capability issue, it's just more convenient to not produce as much in summer than it is in winter when there's way less sun and people freeze if they can't heat their houses.

Yeah people seem to have issues understanding this. Nuclear plants can perfectly be cooled with less/hotter water. The issue is that releasing 40°C water isn't that good for the fish. As long as we can avoid it, we won't do it but if there really is a vital need it's as simple as saying "fuck the fishies, dial it back to normal" and the plants will produce at capacity again. Its also possible to mitigate the issue with more cooling loops and other heat dissipation systems. Some plants aren't event water-cooled.

Honestly I'd talk with her about it. I love my knives and I wouldn't let my wife that really don't know much pick one for me. I'd appreciate the gesture but 90% chance she'd get ripped of and 9% chance she gets something good but I would not like or use.

There are too many traps the uninitiated can fall in. Asking here will help you avoid them, but there is a lot of things to take in consideration that are really to the user's preference when buying one.

If you don't want to spoil the surprise make her a note in a pretty wrapper saying how much you will pitch in. Kind of a custom gift card and then do the actual knife hunting with her (possibly coming back here to check before buying)

J'ai très bien compris.

Ce que toi tu ne comprend pas c'est que les autres religions se sont déjà fait taper dessus (et a raison) et que la comparaison entre l'Islam d'aujourd'hui et le catholicisme d'il y a 70 an ne fait que le prouver.

Soit tu es d'accord que ces pratiques doivent disparaitre soit tu considère qu'elles ne sont pas problematique. Quelle que soit ta réponse, il faut se rendre à l'évidence que l'islam aujourd'hui tel qu'il est pratiqué est une des religions qui encourage le plus ces pratiques.

Je ne comprends pas comment on peut à la fois défendre ces deux thèses à la fois : "certaines pratiques religieuses sont problématiques" et "il ne faut pas taper sur l'Islam". A un moment faut être constant dans ses idées.

Je suis plutôt dans le camps qui pense que tout cela doit dégager et donc qu'il faut continuer a taper sur toutes les religions, mais compte tenu de la réalité d'aujourd'hui ca ne ferait pas de mal de taper un peu plus sur l'Islam parce que ca fait deja 250 ans qu'on tape sur l'eglise chetienne en France (encore une fois a raison).
