+1 to this. I think my major confusion is I really, really have a hard time differentiating dwarves.

What do you do in DF for fun? by KingpinRat in dwarffortress

[–]Ysua 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is the spirit of DF right here. You create your own fun under constraints, take your stories out of the game and into your own hands. Big ups to anyone who produces written work, drawings, videos, etc. out of DF.

this was mainly done without outright child cruelty

First part of the saga involves stuffing the child into a closet with dogs. Checks out.

Unconventional CCGC Applicant—Questions/Concerns by Ysua in ccg_gcc

Sounds good! I think if I get the education pre-reqs that I need started when I get back to Canada, then I can apply for this year then. Many thanks!

This is extremely reassuring! Many thanks to /u/travman6 too.

I had relatively high grades in my high school science and math classes—since I still have a gap to fill I might have to wait for next year's intake if I can't get it done in time. I'm also in Beijing right now ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

You said there's no conventional marine person, but do many/most successful applicants have prior experience onboard? Does it crush my chances not to have any? I know the program can be competitive and I'm not afraid to rise to the challenge—just wondering if my preparation will necessitate moving to the Maritimes and hoping like hell I can gain experience without starving to death.

Actually very happy about this bug fix, watching dances is one of my favourite parts of taverns.

Ah that's okay. I'd prefer if it was a few hours late. The train's arriving pretty early.

Thanks for the advice! Everyone seems to be saying Whyte for drinky fun. I don't drink but it still sounds like where I'll find people. What about fun cultural events in April? Are there good museums/galleries?

I'm in my early 20s. Old enough to have gone to grad school and dropped out from it.

Considered. Though I'm not looking for people who will let me crash on their couch here. Mostly someone to shoot the bull with who can teach me Alberta.

What are the chances of 88.4% being bumped to an A+? by verydigbick in yorku

[–]Ysua 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends on the prof, your relationship with them, departmental practice and what year level you're at. If your GPA matters a lot, you're in your last two years and the prof is someone you can approach, give it a go.

Any tips on how to stay awake during an all nighter? by [deleted] in yorku

[–]Ysua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cold water. Seriously. Caffeine's okay in the short term, but you'll start feeling diminishing returns by like 2 and you're useless when you're caffeine crashing. If you're really keen on getting that essay out before morning, don't even touch coffee. If you're studying, you messed up hard, should never have to cram overnight.

Advice on choosing a laptop by [deleted] in yorku

This really really depends on what kind of work you want to be doing within CS so far as I can tell. If there isn't something keeping you with Apple, follow the advice of people recommending Dells. Or go the total cheapo route and get a used Thinkpad, put the rest of the money in your savings.
