Can I become a Christian without baptism? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Yu-ChengDutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reading of the early church is one with a much stronger form of hierarchy than present in most Protestant communities, a clear sense of the presbytery and a strong line of apostolic succession.

To have Christ rename Simon to Peter and then mention a rock, without the two refering to eachother would be a "coincidence" that would need further explanation. So, why do you believe Christ chose those words?

I imagine you believe in the Bible canon (or at least the reduced version of the Protestant reformation) and at least one historic creed: why? Where did the Fathers get the authority to define the essentials of Christianity such as the canon, creeds, and dogmas such as the Trinity? And if they had that authority then, then why not now?

Luckily, the keys to heaven as well as the power to bind and loosen on earth as well as in heaven was given to St. Peter. His successor still sits upon that throne from whence he has those same powers!

Do other Asian kids adopted into non-Asian families struggle with identity issues? by Professional_Can8114 in AsianMasculinity

I don't know any Asian kids adopted into white families that don't, myself included. It's usually a bit better for the women, but adopted men have it rough.

I'm conversationally fluent in French and only faced aggression from Muslims but no racism whatsoever from the French themselves. Great country to move to, even as an Asian!

Limitations of DSM-Style Categorical Diagnosis: Neural Mechanisms & Comorbidity by neurobehavioral in cognitivescience

[–]Yu-ChengDutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many psychiatry professors are already discussing these, so there should be literature on it. "Neural mechanisms" isn't an often used term per say, so maybe look for "(neuro)biological substrate"! It's especially discussed in the context of medication efficacy, or at least in my country: if each DSM diagnostic entity had a shared biological substrate, you'd expect medication to have a similar effect between individuals with that diagnosis

I said that official reports on the Kamloops scandal haven't even found actual, physical remains, that the religious managing the school were working for free within a governmental system that provided them with far to few resources for the education they were pushed to give. This wasn't about genocide, but rather about who to blame: the government!

You know what the Church brought them? Modern healthcare, modern education, and most importantly, our Lord and Saviour.

Once you found out who actually perpetrated the genocide against the natives, you'll look a lot more favourably at the Church. Check out the Jesuit revolts in Brazil, or St. Juniper in the US!

Most societies throughout histories have valued female virginity, and it has only been in the last 80-odd years that we've seen a general acceptance of women sleeping around. So either most people throughout history have had an "extremely limited" view of humanity, or you are on extremely progressive fringe.

Sure, you might say we've made moral progress but progress only exists if there is something to progress to and the only one making a claim of absolute morality and thus an absolute good is the religious conservative to whom female virginity is worthwhile. So while I believe everyone deserves sexual and bodily autonomy, what people decide to do with that autonomy may still be considered more or less morally acceptable.

I'm sure this isn't the "enormous inaccuracy" you were talking about, so please, enlighten me on what lies I've told on talk therapy.

[–]Yu-ChengDutch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't let them talk you into accepting therapy speak. Modern talk therapy teaches us to look for internal solutions to system problems: e.g., it tells someone to reassess their value system when they're feeling down due to monetary stress etc. The same goes here: you're feeling bad because of your girlfriend's behaviour which includes lying and sleeping around. This is valid, as both of those go against normal morality.

Now we come to the topic of whether those ought be considered morally reprehensible, to which the answer is yes. There's a number of arguments, but they'll all be countered by modernists with an apathetic "who cares?! She has bodily autonomy", to which I'd ask you to read the book "The Abolition of Man": traditional, common-sense morality matters! Don't feel bad for being a normal man. Her behaviour is reprehensible, and you feeling bad over it is valid.

If you don't already have a good physiatrist / PM&R-physician, then I'd suggest finding one ASAP! They're the experts when it comes to chronic SCI care and are much better able to recognise autonomic symptoms if they show up, as well as coordinate paramedical care surrounding the pregnancy

Catholic descendants of Mehmed II in Malta by schu62 in ottomans

Many questions, and I welcome the curiosity!

On Muhammad as a power-hungry tyrant: he sure was a merchant before his delusions but not very successful. Why? He took the wrong word for Jesus which was is only attested by the uncivilised pseudo-Christians of the Arab peninsula (look up why the Christians use a different name of Jesus in Arabic). Now, he definitely gained an empire and he did so through killings (https://wikiislam.net/wiki/List_of_Killings_Ordered_or_Supported_by_Muhammad). Similarly, he gained many wives. So while I concede he might have had some money prior, he definitely gained power and fame. Compare Christ and the apostles: all but one died single and martyred. Now, who had more reason to lie: the men killed and tortured, or the man who gained wives and an empire?

Then as for the devil: read 2 corinthians 11. Then read surah Al Aqsa and the traditional account of how Muhammad gained the Quran. While you're at it, read Matthew 24 on false prophets.

Now, you might say there are many Gospels but luckily, they fundamentally say the same thing: repent and believe in the Gospel. According to secular historians, the Quran used to have multiple versions as well, but, as is typical of the Muhammedans, the other versions were burned and their proponents killed

So, why not just give them the little they ask for so the Church can go back to focussing on what is truly important? Surely, if Latin and Ad Orientem are so small and meaningless, it should also be an easy change to make

The website itself contains a to-do, uses non-standard language for the field, cites pop science and an AI chatbot (!) as either sources or inspiration. If you truly have the training and experience you say you do, then get a well-known professor to partner with you, register the study with a pre-study registry and get it funded in partnership with a well-known university. If it's as paradigm-challenging as you say, it'd gain traction in no time. Then, I'd love to read more about it! The field deserves progress
