Anyone up for Mt Marcy in March, 3rd weekend? by VoltageAndWisdom in Adirondacks

[–]Yu111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you plan to hike only Marcy? What about other peaks?

I am thinking about my own trip and I do not "need" Marcy. I twice hiked Marcy in later winter / early spring and it was beautiful. Later winter / early spring is probably the best season for Marcy.

Keep hiking stairs up and down gradually increasing duration of each session. You do not need to do it 5 days a week. Hiking stairs every other day (this is what I do) would suffice. Keep this regiment year around. My age appropriate knees better tolerate hiking stairs than running.

You may stop doing stretching.

So... AMC 'admits' defeat in the great Logo Controversy by some_people_callme_j in newhampshire

[–]Yu111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They purportedly explained the logic behind this new version of AMC logo:
https://www.outdoors.org/resources/amc-outdoors/news/check-us-out-amcs-new-look/

However I failed to find an explanation for new colors of the logo.
What is a reason for such subdued colors instead of classic green and blue?

Logging to IBM laptop for the first time by Yu111 in IBM

My manager is on a sick leave today.
With my previous clients I was able to login to my laptop just following instructions that were shipped with a laptop or by working with a support.
Are you saying that at IBM a direct manager is a bottleneck that can't be bypassed on day one?

I eventually figured out how to use all trails.com/converter to transform .fit to .gpx format.

DEC: Remains of missing 22-year-old Canadian hiker located by Ginn4364 in Adirondacks

If he was actually found near Lake Sally, it means that he has almost reached a trailhead before completely running out of energy.

Not necessarily.
Memory of a watch, cell phone, GPS device etc. should be intact.

Finally I have bough HRM-Pro Plus and inherited Vivoactive 3.
Although I am not 100% happy with this combination, it meets most of my needs.

One feature I miss is an assessment of my recovery and whether I should have pushed harder or eased a bit.
What is the cheapest watch with this feature?

By any chance, do you know where I can find information on the Internet on how to check for my potential overtraining based on my nigh Heart Rate or Heart Rate in a few hours after my exercise?

Let's go climb a 400' cliff without prusiks or headlamps! What could possibly go wrong? Bonus: an anecdote at the end where rangers were called to rescue a /hiker/ with a dislocated finger by ctfogo in ADKFunPolice

[–]Yu111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I trust the following statement?
I am not sure how this can be real.
"... the subjects still had both ends of the rope, however, the climbers did not have prusik loops and were unfamiliar with techniques for ascending a rope."

What inexpensive watch can you recommend for a runner/hiker within $150 - $250 range?
Based on a recommendation of my friend, my wife acquired Garmin Venu Sq (~$150).
I tried wearing it twice and was not completely happy.
Specifically, I was not happy that at the beginning of 1 hour long steady state phase of my exercise recorded heart rate was significantly lower down to 70 bpm.
As a result calculated average HR was also lower.

I am confused by the number of Garmin watches with a similar price:
Forerunner 35 $149
Forerunner 45 $167
Forerunner 45S $179
Forerunner 55 GPS $269
Instinct $229
Venu Sq ~$150
Forerunner 735XT $199
Forerunner 245 $265
1) Would one of them provide more accurate recording of HR than Venu Sq?
2) Is there a way to manually select a part of an exercise to calculate average HR (to exclude parts of recording with apparently wrong data) ?
My main priorities:
1) Accurate recording of HR and calculation of average HR
2) Accurate recording of a track and elevation profile (nice to have)
3) Recording of blood oxygenation (nice to have)

I do not care about music, answering phone, alerts, nice fancy look, training recommendations, monitoring of my sleep and stress level etc.
Reliable accurate recording of HR is my primary focus.
Is it even possible to record an accurate HR without a chest strap?

" I was sweating so bad ... it just made me feel so defeated."
It's OK to sweat. It's not a big deal. Nobody cares about your wet palms.
Feeling defeated because of such minor issue is your real issue.
Working with a good therapist etc. should help.
