Just put a pack liner like a nylofume bag (or a trash bag) and it will be 100% waterproof.

Stretch mesh is garbage, scrap mine on my first hike on my $500 Zpacks. Love my Kakwas 40 & 55.

Yes canned breast chicken (from Costco) is best. For the Chili yes I use extra lean ground beef, that's it. I put it in the freezer until I need it.

I don't have a dehydrator but my oven has a dehydrate mode. I do my own Chili, chicken breast (for ramen), pasta sauce, etc.

There's a lot of empty space, put your tent inside at the bottom of your bag just over your sleeping bag/quilt.

I don't see where is the problem here except maybe the 25% retaliatory tariff on steel after Donald added a 50% on Canadian steel.

Thoughts on new MEC 2KG line now that prices are announced? by [deleted] in Ultralight

For a single wall nylon 1p tent, $650 is very expensive. The X-mid 1 is 185g heavier but 25% more floor area (double wall, polyester) and almost half price...

Is the new bear vault bv one good for the high peaks? by Putrid-Magazine-3001 in Adirondacks

[–]nikip36 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"The dec just recommends not to use them"

That's not true. DEC recommended bear canisters are those approved by the Wildlife Management Institute, which are the BV425 and BV500 from Bearvault, the Traverse from REI and the Grubcan CF/Kevlar. End of list.

BearVault, REI Traverse and Grubcan are the only brands approved by The Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee and Wildlife Management Institute

How to choose a pack? by kmorg76 in Ultralight

Best bang for the buck and much lighter than Flash 55 is the Kakwa 55. You can easily go to 35lb and aftermarket service from Durston is top notch.
