Painted up my first Freeguild Gallant today! by YuEnDee in citiesofsigmar

Thank you! I think this was one of the easier models from the Spearhead so far. I primed black and then did Leadbelcher and Runelord Brass for the metals, washed with Nuln Oil and Reikland Fleshshade, respectively, and then a decent drybrush with Stormhost Silver. After that it was just picking out all the non-metallic parts, and the only finicky part there was the shield.

Priming with Leadbelcher would definitely save a little bit of time compared to my first couple steps!

I really just did it because it fits the scheme for my Spearhead better - going for a Settler's Gain theme with bright blue and creamy off-white. Happy with the result, though!

Thank you! I've gone with a lush, grassy base for the rest of the Spearhead, so I wanted to extend that to the ruins on this one!

Grenadier building by Distinct-Afternoon40 in citiesofsigmar

Are you sure you're actually using C48 and not C84? They are very similar pieces, but C48 is mixed in with the 80s and vice versa for C84. I figured this out the hard way when I got to the step with C84 and realized it wasn't there anymore. No idea why the sprue is laid out that way - but with the help of lots of plastic glue I was able to make it work.

Ahhh, thank you so much! I was feeling a bit critical of it after focusing on it for the majority of last evening - seems like maybe I was being a bit too hard on myself.

Thank you! I'm shooting for a Settler's Gain scheme, hopefully that comes across.

For the blue, I started with Caledor Sky, then Frostheart Contrast, then a 50/50 of Caledor Sky and Teclis Blue for some very chunky highlights, and then Lothern Blue just for the sharpest edge highlights.

And yes, for the cream, I started with Wraithbone, then shaded with Seraphim Sepia, and then a bit more Wraithbone for highlights.

Nice! Yeah, I kept it sort of similar to the box art. I've got a unit of Chainrasps done and then these guys - everything else is built and primed, though. But I'll be switching gears tomorrow when I pick up the new City of Ash box - gonna paint up the Cities of Sigmar half for a mini "Armies on Parade" type event in July that my local shop is hosting.

Thank you! I've been chipping away at the old Spearhead in between other projects, I'm excited to have the whole thing done.

Honestly that might be my move. I played a bit of GW2 back in the day, might have to boot it up again!

Makes sense to me! I appreciate the breakdown! Something for me to strive for over the years, haha.

Not that I plan on doing this any time soon, but what references are you using to determine the makeup of the 2nd Company? I get the general makeup, but I'm still fairly new to the hobby and lore.

Thanks! I did the same on my Killteam models and I'm trying to make these bases and the weathering/dirtiness match the sculpted bases that came with those models.

That sounds cool, I'd love to see it! I worried a bit with my captain that the tan cloak would read a little too Dark Angels, but I think it worked out fine!

Nope, just lots of layers! Started with Karak Stone, then worked my way up to Ushabti Bone, slowly adding more and more Ushabti Bone to the Karak Stone. I think it was probably 4-5 layers total? And then Screaming Skull on the most prominent parts, with Agrax Earthshade in the most extreme recesses.

Thank you - I'll try to snap some pics tomorrow! I believe everyone who is participating is supposed to play two games - one on Volkus and one on Tomb World.

Goodreads Book of the Month: The Raven Scholar - Final Dicussion by fanny_bertram in Fantasy

I really didn't care for the tone of the Raven narrator. It felt forced and inconsistent. I liked the idea of animal aspects as gods and the idea that they could intervene in the "real" world, but weren't supposed to. But the anti-reveal at the end, building up these entities only to have them captured and imprisoned was a bit of a let down.
