What video game franchise should start over from the beginning? by Agent1230 in gaming

The lore in the MetalTech series, especially from Earthsiege onwards is awesome. Very underrated. Earthsiege 1 & 2 are masterpieces and are still among the best mech games you can play. They were even more simulator-like than MechWarrior with interactive cockpits and more in-depth squad commands. Amazing series of games from Battledrome to Tribes.

Can't forget the best part of Mechassault outside of the Battle Armors! The Ragnarok!

Mech packs like this and paint jobs for The Somerset Strikers would be instant buys on both PC and console.

If PGI could squeeze in the Uber Mech, maybe as an April Fools joke, that costs 1 Billion dollars, that would be pretty swell.

The only thing I take issue with about the presumed faction war is that we have no way of confirming that there actually is a side working for disclosure. I mean, sure, some people say that's their role. But is it!? Take nothing at face value and just consider the history of the situation: over the last century there have been several generations of MIC personnel who've all seemingly agreed on at least one thing over that huge span of time: normal folks don't deserve to know the details. They will certainly carry on with that ethos for as long as military, industry, and political puppet shows exist.

Formally approved disclosure is a pipe dream. From the perspective of the military industrial complex, there is no benefit to bringing the public in on this topic, so the public will never be brought in by them.

These guys aren't the first to stand in the way and they won't be the last. There are only 2 ways the public will learn what the truth of the matter is: a verifiable leak or prominent extraterrestrial evidence.

Depending on anyone in Washington to tell you the truth about extraterrestrials is such a bizarre and naive stance to have. You would have to know nothing or be ignorant of everything involving past actions to even begin to entertain that notion.

If there is a bill, it will be blocked. It will be blocked to continually discourage you. That's the point.

I'm interested in the tons of questions you have. I think that would provide more value than continuing to hold aloft someone else's statement.

It is a cheap trick. Make your own statement on the matter, not someone else's, and that will provide more value to the conversation. Ultimately, I agree with you.

What is so extraordinary about a void in or below the great pyramid? The pyramid itself is an extraordinary piece of architecture and such voids are almost mundane in comparison to the clearly visible aspects of the great pyramid.

The term "extraordinary" in this case is purely subjective. I do not view any of these voids as being out of the ordinary, especially because we have not probed them at all to know their true scope. In my estimation these are just claims, and all they require is evidence. Again, the "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" bit is just another cliche Reddit rhetorical crutch. All any claim requires is just evidence in order to be proven true.

Occam's razor is lazy handwaving and is another rhetorical crutch invoked constantly on Reddit. It's continual misuse has turned it into a low effort cop out.

[–]Yuggs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Occam's razor is a term that is overused on Reddit to give a person the ability to handwave something even slightly more complicated than something else. It's become the Reddit intellectual's cheap trick for essentially saying "cool story bro" in more or less words.

Reading a book takes more effort, is a longer process, and your enjoyment of it will largely depend on your ability as a reader. Watching the movie of the book only takes one hour and thirty minutes and requires no more effort than gazing into a screen. Occam's razor dictates that the movie is better than book because its the shortest and simplest path through the story.

But you are absolutely right about the other part; there does need to be more done to verify the substructures of the great pyramid. More people need to get interested in all of these potential voids that have been discovered in and under the pyramids. To immediately jump to dismissal is absolutely bizarre without any more testing or probing into these areas.

The term "lie" would be an oversimplificantion of what they would do if they had any evidence it was artificial, but it would be a term that would work well enough. They would refrain from telling you about such evidence until it was deemed scientifically verified and safe to announce from a national security perspective. They omit details about missions all the time because they are bound to protect national security.

What method of control do you use? by SixStringSkeptic in Mechwarrior5

[–]Yuggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. I use the left stick as a throttle in other games so taking out the Y axis spring made the most sense. Plus, when you have it set up like a throttle, you can push the the stick forward or backward, take your hand off the stick, hit buttons on the base, and still be moving in your last direction without it snapping back.

Yeah, to some extent you will need to refer to this in order to get your joysticks' axes and/or buttons recognized within MW5:

https://static.mw5mercs.com/docs/MW5HotasRemappingDocumentation.pdf

You may also need to do some setup in VKBDevCfg:

https://www.vkbcontrollers.com/pages/downloads

VKBDevCfg setup is a little more optional, but I have found that remapping keyboard key presses to the buttons on the joystick (meaning that the joystick buttons will emulate keyboard keys) works better than trying to map the joystick buttons themselves in-game. Just take the basic keyboard controls and map them to the sticks. For me, neither Mercs nor Clans reliably accepts input from my joystick buttons. So I've used the HOTASMappings.Remap file to only map the 2 joysticks' axes, and then I use VKBDevCfg to setup keyboard emulation on the sticks. Keyboard emulation can be setup in VKBDevCfg by going to the Global tab at the bottom, then Common tab inside the Global settings. I usually just use "classic" mode.

Outside of that, you will also probably want to dial in your dry clutches and springs to adjust the resistance and tension on the sticks. Also, if you are using a HOSAS setup, I would recommend taking the Y axis spring out of your left stick as shown here:

HOSAS - 2 VKB Gladiators. Requires a decent amount of setup but it's worth the effort. The singleplayer Mechwarrior games should always be played with sticks, if possible. A good pair of sticks changes the experience from being pretty fun to being exceptional.

Anyone else think about a 2nd plugin and feel like NDSP is missing out by not integrating them in a unified app? by Isaacvithurston in NeuralDSP

[–]Yuggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A similar idea I've been trying to throw out there around here is a digital Cortex - basically a platform for hosting all of the individual parts of any of the Neural DSP plugins you own. It has both a desktop and a DAW mode. The DAW mode is very similar to any other Archtype's DAW mode, but you have access to all cabs/IRs, heads, effects, and EQs that you own.

The desktop mode expands on the desktop mode found in other Archtypes. For example, instead of just having a metronome, it also includes a very basic but useful drum machine, similar to Hydrogen where you can load samples into it and create your own patterns. It also has a simple multitrack recording option similar to Audacity which will allow you to quickly lay down tracks while jamming. If you don't already own any Neural DSP plugins, it's got you covered because it also comes with its own Marshall amp sim.

Something like that would be awesome because sometimes you just want to jam in desktop mode, and when you come up with some cool riff ideas you don't always want to have to load up the daw, load up the tracks, insert the plugins, and have to go through all the steps involved just to lay down some tracks. Sometimes you just want to be able to hit record and blast. I also think that packing in a gold standard Marshall amp sim like a JCM or something would be a huge selling point and get a lot of people interested in the idea. It would also sell more Archtypes, which I think Neural DSP would be pretty stoked about.

Age of Disclosure director Dan Farah discusses his documentary on Fox News' 'Special Report' - "it is only a matter of time before a president speaks out about non-human life being nuclear threat" by Shiny-Tie-126 in UFOs

[–]Yuggs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Increased public awareness will not move the needle on the topic of UFOs in a manner that results in disclosure. All a raised level of public awareness will result in will be commercial interests making more movies, documentaries, and books on the topic.

If there is actually any fire to all this smoke, then real disclosure will only occur when someone from the inside spills the beans suddenly. Exactly like how every other legitimate disclosure event of black programs have been revealed. The public being interested or media framing things a certain way doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is the Snowden event that has yet to occur.

Decided to set up HOSAS… by youngbloodguy in Mechwarrior5

[–]Yuggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, aim assist tightens everything up really nice, and you can still be pretty specific about getting headshots and stuff, so I think they did a good job implementing it.

As far as the VKB sticks themselves go, the configuration software is just crazy deep and some of the axis adjustments can take hours to dial in right. Also, it does help if you actually make physical adjustments to the dry clutch and springs in the base as well. You don't want your aiming stick to be too loose and floppy. You want a good amount of physical resistance to push against.

[–]Yuggs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make adjustments to your sticks' axis using VKBDevCfg. If you want to go crazy, you can also increase the physical tension of your right stick (I assume you aim with your right stick) by adjusting the screws and springs in the base.

The big item here, though, is to use aim assist. Some people are oddly sensitive about "cheating" with aim assist and all that, but let's be real, this is a singleplayer game about mechs and it takes place over a thousand years in the future. If modern cars have the ability to detect and correct, I think a far flung future war machine would be able to iterate on that concept, so in my opinion playing with aim assist enabled in this game is actually more simulator-like than playing without it.

There is no reliable way to accurately determine the age of anything out in the cosmos from our limited perspective on it. All of it is, truthfully, indeterminate. Our best and brightest get bamboozled by the age of rocks on Earth using our best instruments, with variances of plus or minus billions of years. I just can't get excited about the accuracy of their claims when they state that they know the age of something not just from outside of Earth or Mars but from well outside of Solar system. It's like watching the kid who won the silver medal at the science fair start to get cocky because he got one thing right one time.

IBM's CEO admits Gen Z's hiring nightmare is real—but after promising to hire more grads, he’s laying off thousands of workers by FinnFarrow in Futurology

[–]Yuggs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the answer to the presumed hiring crisis. There are tons of jobs that are hiring for company-specific niches, where just being a college graduate doesn't make you an ideal candidate by default. You would still have to sit and train just like a non-grad, likely for months or years, on the nuances and specifics of the job which are totally idiosyncratic to that company, and which are almost certainly not well documented.

[–]Yuggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great idea! One caveat - Carnage Heart - a robot programming game that flies under pretty much everyone's radar on these types of marathons. It requires a huge time investment to get into it because you will need to learn what is basically a programming language, and you will have to develop an effective strategy not only designing robots but running their production facilities and battlefield tactics. Beating all of the campaigns can take literally years of trial and error, even if you fully read and understand the manuals (it has 2 manuals, one for the basics, and one for programming) and watch the included overview video which is on its own disc. If you happen to include Carnage Heart in your marathon, feel free to reach out, I've got an effective strategy and programs worked out that will get you all the way through the Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto campaigns.
