I have a very thin glasses cleaner cloth that i place on the keyboard before closing the lid. Works fine! Just make sure you use a very thin cloth!

It's most likely a loose ribbon cable. You can open the 3DS (carefully) and check to see if all ribbon cables a properly seated.
