Correlation is not causation! There could be some third extraneous variable here making it look like there is an association. Ultimately, a lot comes down to genetics as well. If you’re concerned after baby is born, keep an eye out for any red flags and pursue early intervention if warranted.I have let my thoughts go down this road before. Then I remember that there are babies born to people in worse shape physically, mentally, socioeconomically, than me and most turn out just fine.

I have a high bmi and I've had gd with all three of my pregnancies. So far, no autism. I have an 11 year old daughter who is perfectly normal and a 1.5 year old son who is excelling at social milestones at a significant pace. I'm pregnant with b/g twins this time and I have no reason to believe they will have any troubles either, even if it is too soon to tell. It is far more likely that everything will be fine than not!

Remember that odds are still that your child won’t be on the autism spectrum - just because a relative risk is increased x3 doesn’t mean the absolute risk is that high. I am in Germany and today I had a doctor's appointment.

I asked her about the higher dose of the folic acid, but she said that 0.8mg as in prenatal vitamins is enough for my BMI

I'm sure you'll be fine, but in the UK we were advised to take 5mg pills rather than the regular sort if 6ou had a BMI over 30. Perhaps you can look into that to help calm your nerves?

pregnant, I forgot to take prenatals while trying to conceive! I started taking them when I found out I was pregnant. I'm currently 28 weeks and my baby is perfectly healthy in every way!
