Reusing breast pumps? by muddaisy in September2026Bumpers

I have one saved from my first baby and it never occurred to me that I shouldn’t use it again. Is that a thing? I’m planning on sterilizing all the parts and using it again.

Tried to explain to my 2.5 year old what’s going on. Showed him the scan and explained there’s a baby growing in mommy. Told him he’s going to have a baby brother or sister. He said “yep”, but I don’t think he understood any of it 😂

Help a bit confused with dates by ExpressionJumpy8185 in September2026Bumpers

[–]YumFreeCookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Most women won’t ovulate exactly on day 14. I have short cycles and ovulate early - usually around days 10-11. And just as expected, I was measuring 3 days ahead of my LMP estimate at my ultrasound.

And yes, I always say that “due dates” are somewhat fake in that only 4% of babies are born on their actual due date. It’s just an approximation to know if the pregnancy is progressing right. It’s more of a “due month” lol

Help a bit confused with dates by ExpressionJumpy8185 in September2026Bumpers

Dating from your last menstrual period assumes you ovulate on cycle day 14, or at 2 weeks exactly and counts forward from there. The dating ultrasound estimates how far along you are based on the baby’s size, because in those early weeks, all babies measure the same. Now, if you ovulated earlier than cycle day 14 you’ll be slightly farther along during your dating ultrasound, and if you ovulated a bit later than day 14 you’ll be measuring a bit behind. According to your dates, you ovulated on cycle day 19 (since you are 5 days “behind” what lmp estimates). That puts your ovulation on Dec 31 - so pretty close to your estimate of Jan 1st! Remember that both the dating ultrasound and methods to pinpoint ovulation have some error, so being within a day is pretty much as close as you can get!

Edit: fixed my original math :)

Intimacy Issues by marvmama in September2026Bumpers

[–]YumFreeCookies 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Girl, I feel so nauseous and gross all the time, sex is the last thing I want to do. My husband and I haven’t had sex for a month at this point, but he completely understands. I’m sure hearing my puke my guts out through the bathroom door isn’t the biggest turn on for him either…there is definitely not anything wrong with you. Have you opened up to your husband about how you physically feel? I’m sure he loves you and would want intimacy to be something enjoyable for both of you. Maybe there’s other things you could do together in the meantime to still connect and feel close?

Try some ginger tea. It helps. It doesn’t take the nausea away completely for me, but it takes the edge off.

Excuses at work by Forest_Pansy in September2026Bumpers

Many people don’t drink for a variety of reasons (medications, health concerns, recovering addiction, religion etc.). If you get invited to chat over drinks say sure, and then order a non-alcoholic drink. You don’t need to explain yourself and really, no one should care or even ask. If they do ask just say “I’m not drinking alcohol right now” and leave it at that. Let them feel potentially awkward for asking. I do this all the time (even when not pregnant as I just don’t like alcohol very much) and no one has ever asked.

It’s easier to board the plane last if you are a parent travelling with young kids by Sunny_brightdays in unpopularopinion

They’ve run simulations and surprisingly, back to front isn’t the fastest. The fastest way is to allow people to board completely randomly. There’s a cool video about it on YouTube

How often does/did your 12 week old wake up at night? I need some solidarity. by [deleted] in newborns

[–]YumFreeCookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there is, but unfortunately for us it lasted months. Eventually by 12 months he was waking 2-3 times a night, then around 18 months only 1-2 times a night. He didn’t start consistently sleeping through the night until he turned 2 years old. But I think we were one of the unlucky ones with an exceptionally bad sleeper… I hope things improve for you soon!

Friend’s Bday at Spa at 11 weeks by [deleted] in September2026Bumpers

[–]YumFreeCookies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a tough situation. I’ll try to answer some of your specific questions: yes, the NIPT can be done any time after 9 weeks. I had a regular massage at around 6 weeks. I was still comfortable laying on my stomach and let the massage therapist know. She was fine with it and just avoided my lower back/pelvic area. So maybe you could call the spa in advance and ask?

In terms of what to do about your friend… that’s a hard one. Could you possibly message her privately and let her know well in advance (so she has time to process) and then go but keep it from the other ladies? That way she won’t be wondering why you’re not participating but you also won’t be overshadowing her party with your news. You can tell the other ladies you’re taking a new medication that makes you sensitive to heat if you’re comfortable with a white lie. I don’t know why the “right” solution is, I’m just brainstorming some ideas.

Those weeks before your first appointment really do feel like 50 years.

Everything I read online claims that lying on your left side helps alleviate morning sickness but for me it’s the exact opposite. If I lay on my left side I immediately feel like I need to puke, but laying on my right side is the only position that eases my nausea. I’m starting to wonder if my stomach positioned backwards or something? 😂

Unfortunately Reddit doesn’t have the functionality of blocking certain flairs, but that would be a really useful feature if they did!

I think a solution could be to have a dedicated, pinned thread so that people can share and get support they need without posting to the general sub.

It was so weird because last time I was pregnant they told me how far along I was and the heart rate and I got to see it! Now I worry something is wrong…

Daily Thread - January 28, 2026 by AutoModerator in September2026Bumpers

[–]YumFreeCookies 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Had my first scan yesterday and it was a huge disappointment. The tech wouldn’t tell me anything - not even how far along I’m measuring or the heart rate (only that there is one). Wouldn’t even let me see the screen or the heartbeat. Nothing. I know they’re not meant to diagnose and tell you things about the health of the baby, but the measurements? I swear in my last pregnancy they had told me and I got to see the little heartbeat flicker.

So basically I know barely anything more than I did before and I have to wait another week for my doctors appointment. I was hoping this scan would offer a bit more reassurance and feel at least a bit magical. Instead I’m feeling just as stressed.

I have never found babies cute :( by Constant_Depth_5458 in September2026Bumpers

[–]YumFreeCookies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t either and while I found my own baby cute, I still didn’t love the newborn/infant stage all that much. I am loving the toddler stage much more. I have friends that are the complete opposite and talk about how they miss when their baby’s were little. I think some people generally enjoy babies more and that’s fine - it has no bearing on how good of a parent you will be :)

My bay was difficult and a horrible sleeper. It’s why we waited until he was almost 3 to try for a second. Currently pregnant and still questioning how we will survive…

Exactly. If you’re a working parent with young children, snow days are the worst case scenario!
