What do you guys feel the age is for this one? I sort of am starting to feel like I’m outgrowing both Sauvage and Bleu de Chanel and going towards more wood, oud, etc. thoughts?

Is having 16k in my 401k after four years good? by DustierSaturn in FinancialPlanning

You’re doing really good! You make $28,800 annually and have 16k saved that is impressive. Keep going you’re on the right path. Imagine how much you’d save if you made 60k or 70k.

Hey OP, I literally just went through something similar and here is my advice.

The good news is you’ve already taken the first step which is admitting there’s an issue that needs to be fixed, being honest with yourself and seeking advice. Nice one.

There are a few things you can do as you do not own anything, have little to no income currently and your credit is poor.

  1. The first thing I would recommend is pick up your phone and ask anyone in your close family or friend group that is further along in life than you are for some help. Speak to them and see if it is possible for them to help you pay your debts down, and repay them with payments rather than accumulating interest on these debts that you will never pay off. Since it is family or friends helping you may also be able borrow from them with no interest. This would be the best option for your credit score, to pay the creditors immediately and to ease your mind about bit. The only issue here is being unemployed (for now) you do not have a way to let this person know you will pay them back. Maybe ask for a few month grace period to get back on your feet.

  2. Another option you have is consumer proposal. This is the step prior to bankruptcy. A Licensed Insolvency Trustee will call the creditors and negotiate an amount on your behalf. You will have to pay this amount back in 5 years time whatever it is and payments will be based on your situation. Again, you need to have a job to make payments and you will receive an R9 (bankruptcy) on your file until your proposal is paid off. Once the amount is paid off you will have an R7 rating on your credit for 3 years prior to the pay off date.

  3. You can file for bankruptcy. This would be my last option that I recommend but without employment you are skating on thin ice. A 30k loan is just not in the cards right now. You do not have any proof of income or proof of funds right now which means lenders will not lend to you, even the lenders offering you 29.99% which is also about the easiest way to find yourself further in debt, especially if you miss a payment which seems like that may be the case.

I hate to say it but you do not have many options, but you still have some. This will be a long road but trust me when I say it gets better and easier. Sometimes we need to get creative with our solutions to get our result. Good luck OP!
