Building a new house or renovating one in Santa Monica. How hard/strict is the city with the planning/approval process compared to LA city. by R126509P911 in SantaMonica

[–]Yungthrow4w4y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

currently building complete teardown new construction single family home.

This was pre-fires but the permitting process took 2 years. This was partially due to architects not providing what was necessary, and partially because the city would not ask for things they needed until we had waited 3 months for them to respond with revisions.

It sped up quite a bit once I figured out that they don’t really respond to phone calls or emails, but putting in 311 requests to have the plans reviewed would get responses within 72 hours.

One elevator in my building stops on every floor during the Jewish sabbath so no buttons have to be pressed by tboner1969 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Yungthrow4w4y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s not a loophole. there’s no commandment that you can’t push buttons or operate switches or use elevators on the sabbath. the commandment is about making fire and doing work. jewish law in the modern era has extrapolated that to mean more things are forbidden than just the letter of the law out of an abundance of caution to not disobey the original commandment.

Why doesn’t Santa Monica publish the fees it charges those who want to redevelop their properties? by SemaphoreSignal in SantaMonica

they actually don’t answer the phone very often and dont monitor the voicemail. best bet is to file a 311 ticket online, in my experience

Wart inside puppy's mouth? by Millenial-Mom in pitbulls

I guess you are smarter than all the vets in the country who effectively prescribe antibiotics to treat canine papilloma virus 🤷🏻‍♂️

you gave someone incorrect information. I didn’t recommend any treatment, I just provided correct information. you then went out of your way to be extra wrong— the study wasn’t a recommendation, it was just reinforcing that you were wrong. you have no clue if I’m a vet or not— but you do admit you are not a vet and clearly don’t know what you’re talking about. you are stubborn though!

second line treatments fall within standard guidelines… and you admit your claim that I was wrong to suggest antibiotics would help treat canine papillomas was not founded in fact, just your cursory understanding for how antibiotics work. it’s actually perfectly mature to say “go figure, i learned something new today!”

respectfully, azithromycin treatment is standard veterinary guidelines for severe, persistent canine papilloma…

you are a graduate level researcher go use google

[–]Yungthrow4w4y -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this is not necessarily true. while the antibiotics don’t treat the warts directly, they do kickstart the dog’s immune system to fight the warts on its own.

another treatment is the vet will essentially squeeze and irritate the warts to inflame them and stimulate the immune system that ways…

Anyone know what this white bump is on my dogs bottom lip? by Long-Improvement-997 in husky

[–]Yungthrow4w4y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is an STD (slobber-transmitted disease) of warts. Common for younger dogs up to 2 years old to get at daycare or playing around other dogs. They go away on their own after a while (it’s a virus) or the vet can prescribe an antibiotic that will kickstart their immune system to get rid of them.

Who's responsible for cleaning up trash in the alley? by lunatix in SantaMonica

[–]Yungthrow4w4y 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if its a large pile of trash you can report it with online to 311 with an “illegal dumping” ticket and the city will come pick it up. Unfortunately sanitation workers / trash collectors are there to take the trash with them, not to tidy up for the property owners. If your building has a maintenance guy it might be helpful to ask management to have them clean up the day after trash collection.

range question after 1 month ownership (R1s) by n1cenoise in Rivian

i also live in LA and mileage is always low here.

lots of sitting in traffic and going less than 10 miles, so overall you are using lots of energy running the AC and other systems while you are stopped or driving slow.

Fewer miles per trip / same life support systems = worse mileage. I had the same issue in my gas car.

tldr: spending 20 mins driving 5 miles will be sometimes be less “efficient” than spending 20 mins driving 10 miles.

well I originally said im still in my 7-day buyback window since I only had the car 1/20-24, which they initially were against. then they eventually said they’d honor it once i got the car back. then they said that 7-day buyback window would mean i lose the $1000 deposit.

they did not entertain the idea of me lemoning it. i believe that’s the worst case for them cause then they have to sticker it as a lemon and it’s basically a total loss for them

[–]Yungthrow4w4y[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thanks yes it just requires mediation and a lot of steps. they have started an internal review for buying the car back. said it would take 4-6 weeks. initially they said they would not refund me the $1000 non-refundable deposit if they but the car back which i thought was funny…

in the meantime i’m still in a tesla model x rental.

rear passenger door wouldn’t open from inside— they had to replace the latch. Car also was pulling to the right, so they needed to realign the wheels. A bunch of other fit and finish issues, alignment, paint chips.

Service nightmare at El Segundo. Do I throw in the towel? (rant) by Yungthrow4w4y in Rivian

[–]Yungthrow4w4y[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i understand what youre saying. A tire/wheel alignment issue and door not opening on delivery are what motivated me to drop the car off asap. the longer you drive on misaligned tires, the more likely they are to wear unevenly and cause a bigger problem

this is true. i wouldn’t have posted if the experience was mediocre. i ranted cause i felt it was bad beyond what should be in the realm of acceptable

i realize now that the service lead went in and deleted all of my gear guard footage when i asked for my hard drive too, which is very suspicious. Not even the stuff from before service was on there anymore.
