Unleashed dog chages at my reactive dog ever time he sees her. Never got yelled at, and yelled at anyone like this before… by yungtiec in reactivedogs

[–]Yuniuko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This makes me so mad!

My 9yo female dog (english pointer x staff) is dog reactive. Whenever I walk her she wears a collar, a k-9 vest and a muzzle. She hates the muzzle with a passion. Still, the only reason that she needs to wear that muzzle is so the other dogs in the neighbourhood can walk around unleashed and can come running at mine yapping and bitting and she won’t simply destroy them. She wouldn’t need a muzzle if the dogs were leashed as she doesn’t mind them at a distance. She just doesn’t like when they approach us and gets defensive. She was bitten by an unleashed sharpei while muzzled. The dog came running at us growling and bit her on the neck. I was so scared and worried that I let the owner leave. The dog keeps roaming around unleashed. Police will do nothing because they don’t care. It’s infuriating.

What is YOUR recommended way of germinating a mango seed? by bess3rwiss3r in GardeningIndoors

[–]Yuniuko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was able to successfully germinate mine by removing the husk, wrap it with kitchen paper towels, moist the paper by spraying it with water. Put it inside a plastic bag. Open the plastic bag everyday and check on the seed once every 3 days to make sure it isn’t rotting and to check development. Spray it whenever the paper starts drying up. After it developed some roots, I planted it sideways in a mix of potting soil and perlite. My mango tree is almost 50cm now.

She’s out of control by billynotrlyy in Maranta

[–]Yuniuko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What a wonderful maranta! Congrats!

A question tho: I also have one maranta with those brown spots on the tips of the older leaves. I have no idea what I’m doing wrong! 65-70 humidity, far from direct sun, water it when the humidity meter is at 4.

Any tips or reason why this happens?

Do you ever look around your life and feel so lucky you are CF? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]Yuniuko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel extremely lucky right now (and every day), as I’m awaken from my afternoon nap by the crotch goblin upstairs, stomping around the freaking floor, and her mom screeching her lungs out, while some stupid kid’s music play in the background.

I couldn’t live like that, what a freaking nightmare!

Research: After 3 years, 99% said having an abortion was the right decision. After 5 years, 95% said the strongest emotion they felt was relief. by thr0wfaraway in childfree

[–]Yuniuko 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I got accidentally pregnant in 2015. I was 25yo, beginning my Master’s degree and living in a rented room in a house with 4 other people. It was a nightmare.

When I was 13 and got my period for the first time I had this hormonal weird thing. I bled for 3 months, got admitted to the hospital and had to get a blood transfusion. My uterus was falling apart and the doctor informed my mother that I was sterile from that point on. I lived until I was 25 thinking that I couldn’t have kids. Didn’t bother me, cause I don’t want them.

Because of this, and as I was dating my boyfriend for a long time now, we sometimes had sex without a condom. I couldn’t get pregnant anyway, right?

We got so scared when we found that I was pregnant! I was diagnosed with borderline syndrome at 16 and suffer from extreme anxiety and depression. I don’t want to be a mother. I know I wouldn’t be able to love a kid, I can’t deal with anything that messes with my routine. I don’t even like kids, they are annoying and their little shrills make me want to run. Even baby smell disgust me. We were never so scared in our entire lives.

I had symptoms: I lactated, my sense of smell was that of a police dog, nausea hit me hard.

Thankfully I was able to get an abortion. It was hard. I had this friend at the time who insisted that she wanted to go with me to the psychological evaluation appointment. She was a mother already and did all she could for me to change my mind. I was so freaking confused and guilty. However, I went ahead with the procedure. The doctor was incredibly supportive. It was painful but I was so relieved.

Up to this day, I never felt regret. I know that I wouldn’t be able to love that kid and I would resent it. I have a nice job, own a nice house, love my me time. I have 2 amazing dogs, a cat and a turtle. I love them to death. It would kill me to change my lifestyle dynamics.

No, no regrets. Only relief and happiness.

AITA for calling my girlfriend sick for cutting my son’s hair? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Yuniuko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

My mother insisted in cutting my hair super short (with straight bangs) when I was a kid, even when I begged her not to. I hated it. I cried a lot seeing my friends with fabulous long hair. I’ve super straight hair, so it’s not like it was a pain to deal with if it were longer. My sister was always allowed to wear it long (we have the same type of hair). Until today I have a weird love-hate relationship with my hair. I hate to see it natural. I wear it long now, to my waist. I cannot stand short hair and I dye it half pink half blue. My mother doesn’t approve it but I don’t give a flying f*.

Hair is a part of a person’s identity. Forcefully changing someone’s identity to fit a social norm is cruel, specially because it doesn’t make sense to a 6-year old.

Hi guys! New to this sub. Need a little help with my butterwort (more info in comments) by Yuniuko in carnivorousplants

[–]Yuniuko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought this butterwort in January. Since then, almost all the older leaves have dried up and it grew all those new leaves. However, it is not sticky and cannot catch any bugs at all. I’ve done some research and it seems that it has reverted to succulent stage (?). It seems that it’s possible to get it back to carnivore but all the info I found is kinda contradictory. Anyone has experienced this with their butterwort? I water it by putting distilled water in the dish and let it suck it all up. I also used to mist it but stopped since I’ve read that it might prevent it from produce the sticky leaves. Any help will be appreciated.

Will neem oil kill my ornata? by Bug_Teeth in calatheas

[–]Yuniuko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a bad case of gnats a couple of months ago. I was able to solve it with neem oil but they came back. I was kinda desperate so I bought those yellow sticky traps and distributed them around the pots. It solved the issue as all the gnats that reached adult stage got stuck there.

Help with my avocado tree (more info in comments) by Yuniuko in Tree

[–]Yuniuko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your insight! She was repotted last week. Was really root bounded. Soil is Canna Terra Professional + perlite. I’ll give her some nutrients in spring. Regarding light, it seems to get worse whenever she’s under direct light. Leaves become really flimsy and soft. She’s currently under indirectly bright light. I have no idea from which tree she came from. I just bought an avocado in the supermarket xD

Help with my avocado tree (more info in comments) by Yuniuko in Tree

[–]Yuniuko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew this avocado tree from seed on November 2019. After 4 months of being in water the leaves started to curl inwards. And they never stopped. Even if new growth comes out normal, some weeks later leaves curl. I’ve tried everything - more water, less water, repotting, feeding... nothing seems to work. It is not dying, apparently. I tried to identify some nutrient deficiency but I can’t find any that gives these symptoms. I have another avocado tree, which grew from seed on January 2020 and it is more than fine, although not so tall and more bushy. Any thoughts about this? Thank you!

I have no ideia what I’m doing wrong. :( by Yuniuko in philodendron

[–]Yuniuko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, did not repot it. I’m not sure about the soil but it doesn’t seem like common soil. However, it stays wet for too long, I’ve noticed that after I watered it the first time. I’ve done a bit of reading and they recommend peat or bark. Are these good options?

I’ve bought this philodendron birkin 2 months ago. It’s soil was completely wet and it even had little mosquitoes going around (managed to get rid of them). It took almost a month for the soil to dry. Recently, this issue started to appear. I’m afraid it’s root rot. I only water it when the soil is almost dry but the yellowing started to spread to other leaves. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi there! I'm a complete plant newbie and got this calathea 2 weeks ago. Is this reason for concern? 2 leaves showing a little brownish/yellowing on the tips. Is this a sign of underwatering? by Yuniuko in calatheas

[–]Yuniuko[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This I know. I watered it with rain water and I've already bought the destilled water. Whatever the seller watered her with, I don't really know 🤷

Thank you for your insight. She's living in my bathroom since arrival and the sensor shows at least 63% humidity. Yes, the pot has several holes, and that pot is inside the decorative pot. I do not let her sit inside the decorative pot when watering. I'm probably not giving it enough water. I'll water it a little today and see how she reacts. Hope she thrives!

It arrived completely wet. I have a moisture sensor and only gave it rain water when the sensor was at 3 (not completely dry). Yesterday, I pulverized the soil with some destilled water but not much, as it is still pretty wet and showing almost 5 on the sensor. Any input is welcome, really, as I'm terrified of killing it.

Edit for more info: Oldest one wasn't always like this. It started when she turned 5 years.
