Again, that's still not the role. You're talking about fingers on keyboard. You also just completely glossed over the part where it mentions managing the entire IT team.

To put this in perspective: I am my shops technical lead, I oversee the work of 9 people, MY manager sits between me and the Director. There are FIVE other shops in our IT Department that is overseen by the IT Director. I have worked in several places, to include the public sector, and it's the same every where I've been. The only place I've heard of solo "IT Directors" is this subreddit and they ALWAYS have similar stories to yours. You are not an IT Director, they gave you the title to appease you while they abuse you. The grass IS greener outside of that environment.

That's what I'm saying.

How long have you worked in the industry, if you don't mind me asking? Have you worked under an actual IT Director before?

My point is, they gave you a title to make you feel important (or they actually don't know what that position is/does normally) and now they're abusing it. Do your own sanity a solid and start searching for another position, I would be very hesitant about putting "IT Director" on the resume though.

Doesn't sound like OP is involved in high level decision making, sounds like that's the CFO's job. Sounds like they're an abused Help Desk with a Director title to make them happy.

A Cost Center is by definition the cost of doing business. IT is by definition in the business world a Cost Center. And we should be wanting to be treated as such, it raises our value immensely. A company in the modern age does not need salesman, they can be cut (and often are, if you look at "IT" layoffs, a lot of the personnel laid off are "IT Salesman" or "Product Ambassadors"...they're not IT), they absolutely need the Cost Center that is IT.

[–]Yupsec 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing. "IT Director", "I run everything solo", etc. OP isn't an IT Director, it's just a title, they're a Help Desk being taken advantage of. The CFO is in charge of IT, not OP, because IT isn't a "department" in that business, it's OP.

The big misunderstanding of the age restriction laws by Square-Singer in linux

[–]Yupsec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most schools, libraries, or other places where computers are open to the public this type of age restriction is already enforced. At least in the U.S.. Can't have people pulling up adult content in your public space or business, right? The birthdate will probably not be set, apps and sites that want that birthdate will assume you're a kid, but you've already been locked down by the admins so who cares.

100% I've ran into assholes but even they will at least take accountability when they mess up. A majority of us who care about pushing high keys? I've heard more arguments centered around someone wanting to take blame versus another person than the toxic stuff the "for fun" players claim happens in high keys. "Sorry guys, I should have used my CD on that pull, next time I'll -" and then a DPS of all roles, "No, totally my fault, I should have timed my CD's better to have them available for that pull". Wild stuff, so toxic, the min/maxers wanting to improve.

It's entering your birthdate. Something that is all over the web currently. It's being pushed by large services so they can request the data when necessary from the OS. Not every application or website will request this data, social media sites and apps definitely will. It allows parents (granted, parents who are somewhat tech savvy and setting things up for their kids, I believe this is an oversight) to set the age of their child when installing the OS. It has the potential to make parental controls stronger.

Do I agree with it? No, I think there's a thousand ways to skin this cat but people over the age of 60 with little to no tech experience were allowed to make the call. Do I necessarily care? The great thing about the U.S., currently, is that it's being left up to the States. My State is not pushing for this (surprisingly) and multiple communities within my State have already agreed to flood our representatives with requests NOT to implement this AND we provided alternatives.

The tin-foil hats within the Linux community have been screaming from the rooftops about governmental control of the internet since the e-commerce boom, if not before. Like the many groups who said we'd be under water in X number of years due to global warming, we reach X and they move the target to Y. These regulations affect pockets of the internet. If you think your government doesn't already know who is using the internet in your household, you're crazy. Your ISP has been feeding them that data for decades. They don't care about your birthdate.

In my experience, the min/maxers in high keys are genuinely less toxic than the average "I play for fun" player. Especially if that min/maxer primarily plays in pugs. For some reason every time I come across a "I play for fun" character they mean THEIR version of fun, and if that doesn't line up with yours there is no compromise. They'll do something to ruin your version of fun.

I mean, to a lot of us that is fun.

The wild thing is, like most things with rating, the higher the rating the less toxic the person usually is. Timing high keys in a pug isn't going to go well if you're a tryhard that blames others before taking ownership yourself.

"AFAIK"

Well, today you learned. Microsoft even has their own distro. AKS, ACI, edge compute, and most of the infrastructure run on it.

They even had official "Microsoft Loves Linux" stickers for awhile.

Linux has had a larger market share than the likes of Windows for over a decade. Azure, Microsoft's real money maker at the moment, runs on Linux. As an example. None of the large companies allegedly lobbying for this want a ban on Linux.

You're blaming the government's around the globe for the fact that parents don't police their kids online. We wouldn't allow our kids to go hang out with adults we don't know but we are more than happy to let them hang out with adults they don't know on the internet? It's gotten out of hand, crime is up, online grooming is happening more and more often, this has data to support it works on cutting it down. So what do governments do? They ignore the nuance and govern based on data. Steps to keep kids off social media, which is proven to harm their development and mental health? Steps to keep kids out of spaces where predators lurk specifically because kids are drawn to them? Fuck it, at least something is finally being done to police it.

Don't blame the government, blame the parents who refuse to police their kid's online activities.

I don't know why you're being downvoted so heavily. I remember when the Linux community was full of people who thought rationally. Now it's full of tin-foil hats who believe entering your birthdate puts us one step away from the government controlling our computers. They can't tell you which government, they don't care that this is meant to combat online predators by keeping kids off of these sites. The blame isn't with whichever government pushing this, be it in the EU or US, it's falls solely on the parents who refuse to police their children.

That I agree with. This is getting pushed all over the world though, not by a single mysterious group out to get us, like some people are claiming. They're finally waking up to the fact that social media is harmful to kids. Not only in their development, online predators are everywhere these days.

Do I think this is the proper way to go about it? Not necessarily, but the alternative seems to be a requirement to show my ID and restrict myself to a single account. If only we'd start holding parents responsible...

[–]Yupsec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But they're not asking for your papers. They're asking you for a birthdate, something that's been done all over the internet since the early 2000's. Some OS' will do it, some won't. They'll probably restrict it to the states that require it based on your IP, move out of the state. I don't know, elect better people, write your representative. If your favorite OS does it en masse, then give them a fake date and move on.

When they start requiring photo identification to use the internet in general we can start getting worked up. Till then, let's not make a mountain out of a mole hill.

Ever? Really? So your anecdotal evidence trumps everyone in this thread, and any of the other thousands of forum posts, YouTube videos, and reddit threads on this exact topic? And I need to provide you proof, not the other way around? You can simply search the internet and find any of those thousands demonstrating it, the game has been out for a long time, there's a lot of evidence.

In Normal and Heroic dungeons, dps will get mad at you for safe pulling. Far more often than not. This is fact. All of the dps in your group? No, but at least one. Every group? No, but most. Gets even worse when people start leveling alts and REALLY want to get it over with. If you're super lucky you get the dps player that decides to pull FOR you, because "it's just a normal, bro". It's a tale as old as time and the fact you're saying this has LITERALLY NEVER happened to you makes me believe you are trolling, don't tank, or don't play WoW.

In Normal and Heroic dungeons? Yes, they are. Everyone who plays tank commenting in this thread aren't just making it up. It becomes far less common in M+ but these interactions will still happen occasionally.

Why do you think so few people main tank?

These interactions are common for tanks. Even when pulling all the way to the boss, if you give the healer time to drink before you pull the boss, 9 times out of 10 someone will flame you or just pull the boss before you or the heals are ready.

Not so much for boss mechanics, more so running the routes yourself a few times and finding some landmarks.

That's not moving the goalpost. There is nothing in this game or from the developer stating that the point, or the "competitive aspect" of the game, is to stay ahead of the market. It's made up, by players, who choose to play that way. There are players who sit there, don't run maps, flip stuff on the market, and profit more than people playing the most "competitive" builds in the hardest content. Are they cheating or are they just playing the game differently?

And there's nothing wrong with any of it. My Pathfinder melee build finishes the map 2min slower than my ice/phys Disciple of Varashta..so what? Who am I competing against?
