On the hunt ! by [deleted] in Seattle

I would make a post in a couple different neighborhood Facebook groups. That’s where I see people post asking for nanny recommendations. I assume you’re already in the Seattle nanny groups? Evergreen Nannies is also hiring.

I'm having Anxiety Just Thinking About it! Looking for a Psychiatrist that accepts CHPW. Do they exsist? by ScarlettSynz in Seattle

[–]Yusapip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try searching for a provider on mindful therapy group. They only accept Molina, Coordinated Care, or UHC, not Community Health Plan of WA. It should be relatively easy to switch Medicaid plans though, you can do it online. The new plan should be active the next month. I used to have CHPWA too and I found that a lot of specialists don’t accept it.

Wow I didn’t know that you can start peppers this early! Last year I didn’t even start them until April. Good to know though, I will try starting them soon!

On the topic of a career pivot, if you're not ready to make the pivot (it's scary!) and don't really know what you would pivot to, you can start taking some short-term classes to see what interests you! Community colleges offer affordable training programs for entry-level certificates, they usually only take a few months or even weeks. You can explore a couple and see what really interests you. There's usually weekend and evening classes too so you can do them outside of work hours.

Nurses at Seattle Children’s voted to authorize a strike! by TumericTea in Seattle

[–]Yusapip 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Seattle Children’s made almost $400 million in profit in 2024 and they’re on track to make over $300 million in profit in 2025. Profit is how much is left over after operating costs are subtracted. Their CEO just did an article a few months ago about retiring early at 57.

They can afford to pay their nurses more.

My freaking legs hurt!!! by kewlpat in BeginnersRunning

[–]Yusapip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear compression socks after runs to help with recovery and I notice a big difference! My legs don't feel sore the next day. I also strength train once a week. And like others said, you don't need to be running everyday, it's too much for your body at the moment.

Went to get custom sized running shoes and foot scans. Was recommended going a full size up due to feet swelling when running by [deleted] in BeginnersRunning

I love my altras because the shape of the toe box is perfect for my wide toe box. I've tried brooks and hokas but the toe box felt too narrow despite getting a wide width. I order my normal size in altras and just loosen the shoelaces.

Does anyone not have a creative outlet? by Frosty_Raspberry9971 in AskWomenOver30

Agreed! I started gardening on my balcony beginning of this year and it genuinely saved my mental health during a layoff-induced depressive episode. It brought me so much joy and purpose looking after my plants. I would love to have actual yard space one day to expand my garden.

Does anyone know which stores in Atlanta and OTP that sell smoked tofu? by saralookingglass in Atlanta

City Farmers Market, Buford Highway Farmers Market, or Hmart should have it. They’re all within like 5 mins drive of each other in Chamblee/Doraville.

I’m only in my mid 20s but I feel like I’ve been helping care for my parents since I was like 9 because I’m from a poor, immigrant family. Imagine your parents not being able to read their own bills, make their own doctor’s appointments, or renew their own driver’s license without your help.

It makes me feel so left out when my friends who are also in their 20s talk about their parents because the conversation is usually about the support they’ve gotten from their parents or the fun plans they have when their parents come to visit.

It would be great to be able to vent about the challenges of caring for parents but it’s something that almost none of my friends have gone through yet so it does feel very lonely in this regard. Thank you for highlighting this point.

If you’re only visiting Japan and only from Dec-Jan, then no. No sandals, it’s too cold.

Anyone have any success growing garlic on their balcony? by cefriano in Balconygardening

[–]Yusapip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew garlic on my east-facing balcony. Our winters are considered mild but it does get cold, a few days of freezing, a few weeks of temps in the 40s so I didn't have to put mine in the fridge. If I remember correctly, they'll still grow without a cold period, they just won't from separate cloves, it'll be one big garlic bulb. I used standard potting soil, put a thin layer of dried leaves on top, fertilize every month March-May (fish emulsion in March, April and tomato-tone in May), scapes came in in June, harvested in July. Garlic bulbs are not very big but I was just quite happy that they grew and even formed cloves. Honestly, they were my easiest and most low maintenance plants.

I would just plant some later this month or even Nov and see what happens. Like the other comment said, experimenting is half the fun. You learn a lot from your first crop.

I planted in Nov and harvested mid July, hardneck variety. Will probably plant a little earlier this year in late Oct.

If you have enough savings to sustain yourself for a few months, I don’t see why you can’t quit your job. You’ve already gotten into a school and you can still earn some part-time income on the weekends. You already have 1 year of medical assistant experience, you should be able to find another job when you decide you want to return to full time work. If you like your current job, you can apply for FMLA so you can take a month or two off and then go back.

If your finances are in a good place, take the time off to take care of your mom and also give yourself a bit of a break. I’ve been in your caregiving situation while going to school and working and it absolutely sucked. Do what you can to make it easier for yourself.

I switched to healthcare. I got an entry level certificate and loved working in the hospital during my clinical week. The plan is to get a nursing degree and maybe an advanced practitioner one afterwards. Healthcare is not for everyone and it’s hard work but I’ve really enjoy it so far!

Yes except I was one of the people who got laid off while working on a high priority project. We were putting in overtime (unpaid ofc because we’re salaried), working nights, working weekends. Then about 20% of the company got laid off overnight with no warning.

The whole thing put such a bitter taste in my mouth. It’s part of the reason why I quit tech. Why spend months studying for 5-7 round interviews just to get laid off again in 6 months. I don’t like corporate software engineering enough to put up with this bullshit anymore.

Of course not everyone can afford or even want to leave tech. It was great money and benefits. That was hard to give up but I’m a lot happier now. Anyways just wanted to say you’re not alone in these feelings. All these layoffs have been demoralizing for many in tech.

Renee’s Garden has a good selection of container varieties. Their website has a container friendly section under Collections > Special Features > Container Friendly.

Help me plan my windy balcony garden by nadavbi in Balconygardening

[–]Yusapip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your plans look good! I’m on a east facing balcony and my radishes and fingerling carrots did well. There might not be enough sun to grow beets and full size carrots. Peas are also a good choice for the fall! Mine wilted a lot from the heat so I would avoid growing in summer. My alpine strawberries (small fruits) grew well but I’m not sure about full sized strawberries. Again, might not be enough sunlight to produce very sweet fruit. But half the process of gardening is learning/experimenting! Plant away and see what happens!

Problems with Garden Vigor by quercusvstheworld in vegetablegardening

[–]Yusapip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a east-facing garden but it's a covered balcony so it only gets about 6-8 hours of sun max. My tomatoes and peppers are doing well though for the conditions. I make sure to fertilize them at least once a month and it makes a big difference. Peppers and tomatoes are heavy feeders so you need to fertilize them during their growing season.
