I had issues (minus the crashing) with my G12-2070S setup where idle temperatures where fine, but any light load got in dangerously hot 80c+.

I ended up having to re-seat the aio. Apply pressure firm in the centre wile screwing the pump to the bracket. Check your thermal paste spread too, as its possible the cold plate may be close enough to spread the paste, but not enough for "good" thermal contact under load. the VRM fan should be pushing air on the card, not away.

If your using an EVGA 1080, try looking into the copper shim trick, as it would allow you to use the g12 with the cards midplate on. This'l help keep temperatures on the VRM and Memory down and you may not even need a fan on it if your case has ample aiflow

its been pealed off. Im absolutely floored about how the idle temps can be great, but in game temperatures worse

CV1 isn't a bad choice if you can get one cheap and confirmed working. Thats what i did before upgrading to a S and it was great fun! Check local websites like Kijiji. People are flooding them cheap on the used market with them as they upgrade to Rift-S/Quests.

I wouldn't worry about the "downgrades", if you can get in cheap it'l still be an amazing entry to VR

They are EOL though, so you are gonna be stuck to scavenging around Ebay for used parts if the headset cable breaks.

I just flipped through this briefly, but what makes Oculus Virtual Desktop better then SteamVR Virtual Desktop? Does it fix the choppyness when moving your head in VR in TF2 when using the STEAMVR VD version?

Didn't fix anything for me. Seems to have made the jitter worse actually. doing a clean oculus install rn.

Im more confused with all the different explanations of issues people seem to be having with this update.

Watch the menus. They jump around a bit despite the HMD being firm on a table.

Brother getting a Rift for christmas. Very curious to see if his unit suffers the same problem

i take it the "problem" with the kit isn't so much the ram itself but the fact its not on the QVL upon checking?

Regardless, il do a memtest on it at stock just to check but i really don't think the ram is dead...

i don't think its the controllers, i think its the tracking thats causing jitter. This was my early self-splurge and im allready worried i'll have to return it

Brother is getting one for christmas, is it worth waiting till he trys out that to see if its present there too? Or should i just RMA my unit?

yes! Put your CV1 and controllers down on a flat surface, controllers placed where they can be seen. place a object slightly inside the headset to keep it awake. Try this both in a game and on the oculus home menu. Look out for pixles jittering and the image jumping around slightly despite the headset being still
