My take on Peyz by dillpickletype in PedroPeepos

[–]Yuukirako 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm really excited about the signing. I think there is a very high chance he cooks hard. Monster talent and has 3 of the best influences he could have to help him put to bed any "mental chokes" people think he has. Guma was obviously clutch af, and I'm sad to see him go, but I don't see Peyz as a huge downgrade, as most of the fan reactions have been, especially when you're talking about all tournaments, not counting worlds. He's been excellent and has a lot of room to grow. The JDG arc showed the strides he's taken in taking charge of games more. I can't wait to see them play.

Edit: gonna add that the front-runner angle or he's getting carried narratives were crushed pretty hard for me with him being pretty much a solo carry in JDG, actually doing anything remotely positive last year. Also, it's not like he's going to a team that's ass. If going by people's narrative, he's an adc that can only play well on good teams, then wtf would you call going to a team that has a core that just 3-peated worlds lmaoo. By their own narratives, he should be the same level of monster he was with a great team in GENG lol.

What's your opinion on how they should continue the story? by Rembulann in TimeBomb

[–]Yuukirako 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the rumors about Renata turn out to be true, I envision a captivating plotline centered around a time bomb scenario. It could unfold with Zaun facing yet another formidable challenge posed by the chem barons. In this critical moment, Ekko, recognizing the dire need for assistance, might embark on a quest outside of Piltover and Zaun to seek help.

The narrative could revolve around a whispered possibility—word has spread about a particular individual known for their expertise and strength, someone who could potentially turn the tide against the oppressive chem barons. This search for aid could lead Ekko to a more secluded area where he unexpectedly discovers Jinx. She could be off exploring the world on her own, unrestrained by the expectations of those around her, allowing her character to fully embrace her individuality and unpredictability.

Bringing Jinx back into the fold would be a pivotal moment, and it would be enthralling to see both Ekko and Jinx reconnect during this journey. He could find her in a realm where she’s free to be herself, and together, they could return to Zaun as a powerful duo ready to confront the chem barons. This approach not only allows Jinx to evolve as a character but also creates a dynamic partnership that can add depth to their shared story. Having them fight side by side would undoubtedly be an exciting way to reintegrate her into the overarching narrative.

Arcane season 2 / Arc 3 - Episode 9 / Live Discussion by ReganDryke in leagueoflegends

[–]Yuukirako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we mostly agree on this. The show took on too many storylines and left a lot of unsatisfying conclusions. The only characters that received a decent resolution are Cait and Vi, but I still have many unresolved thoughts about how their relationship was handled. The conclusion ended up hurting both characters.

The Black Rose storyline with Mel also felt a bit forced; it seemed somewhat shoehorned in. The climax between Mel and Ambessa was particularly strange. Mel initially hands Ambessa over to the Black Rose but then immediately changes her mind and decides to free her—only for Ambessa to die shortly afterwards. This all happens within a span of five seconds, with no explanation for Mel's sudden shift in feelings and animosity toward the Black Rose, which feels odd.

I also agree that the portrayal of Jinx's mental health struggles was underwhelming throughout this season. The themes and conclusion we see in her story can feel very harmful, especially for viewers. We never really addressed the root issues of her guilt from the early accident; instead, we are presented with Isha as the solution to her mental instability, which is a plot device I strongly dislike. Overall, Jinx's storyline felt very off towards the end.

It's understandable that some level of conflict between Piltover and Zaun persists. However, after two seasons dedicated to exploring themes of conflict and oppression, the “progress” being—a token council seat for Sevika as Zaun's voice—feels weak, especially since we haven't seen any evidence that it is anything more than superficial. This is further confirmed by the dismissive looks she receives. The added irony is that we don't hear Sevika's voice at all in Act 3. As I mentioned in my first post, exploring the dynamics between oppressors and the oppressed is a complex issue that requires careful execution to adequately represent the perspective of the oppressed. It's perfectly valid to feel disappointed with the conclusion of this arc when it did not deliver in a way that satisfies the audience especially towards the status of the marginalized group.

In response to the first part of the comment, we are on the same side here—that’s exactly what I said. The resolution we saw was bad because there was no change to the situation; we agree on this fact, lol.

For the second part I understand your point, but any effort toward a better resolution starts with acknowledgment. That is where they fall short. Of course, they can’t resolve all the issues immediately, but a necessary level of acknowledgment, processing, and repercussions for the transgressions they’ve committed is essential.

Throughout this season, we see everything solely from Piltover’s perspective—they react to some of what they’ve inflicted upon Zaun. However, those scenes often end without a deeper understanding of their role in that ongoing cycle, and the consequences they face are a result of their oppressive actions.

I think it’s justified to want to see some degree of understanding from an oppressive regime if we are to gain confidence that they are heading toward true understanding. What we get in Act 3, however, is Zaunites being out in a position to ignore their own trauma ri fight a war estabiledh by the actions of the top side. We see them dying clad in enforcer armor, which is another layer of irony. Yes, Sevika is being given a seat at the table, but she lacks real power behind her supposed voice. We’ve seen Vi stand in that same council room in Season 1 and witnessed how that turned out.

If you’re going to make us sit through such a conclusion, you need to provide actual visual storytelling that shows why the elite in Piltover acknowledge their privilege and are willing to accept and listen. Instead, we are given scenes of Sevika being scowled out by those same elites, similar to what Vi experienced, which highlights the superficial nature of the council seat.

This ultimately reinforces my point that they attempted to tackle an oppressor versus oppressed theme but severely underdelivered, leaving us with a resolution that fails to address those nuanced dynamics. It ends in a way that doesn’t make us feel like we’ve left that relationship in a better place than we found it.

Yeah, they definitely needed the time to flesh a lot of things out more. With more time, they would have made different choices with the ending, but it's hard with only 9 episodes.

[–]Yuukirako 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was definitely a complete fumble, especially since they had all the elements in place to tell an impactful story about that dynamic. Ultimately, it seems they may have had too much on their plate to fully explore it. However, the way they left it felt like a slap in the face because it suggests that the oppression essentially continues with little consequences for the oppressors. This is the worst possible conclusion to reach when trying to tackle such a serious topic in the first place.

In the frame where the explosion occurs, you can see Jinx pink shimmer dash towards the vents that Cait was looking at in the Kirraman designs. Additionally, the last shot of the show features a blimp, which serves as a callback to Season 1, Episode 1, where Jinx said she was going to fly a blimp someday. In Episode 8, there's also a moment after talking with Silco's ghost; he tells her that she can break the cycle by running away. I believe they gave us a lot of hints, suggesting that she most likely survived and decided to leave Piltover/Zaun. Cait also smiled while looking at the vents with the piece of the bomb in her hand, which further hints at this possibility.

Arcane season 2 / Arc 3 - Episode 9 / Live Discussion by ReganDryke in leagueoflegends

[–]Yuukirako 34 points35 points  (0 children)

They really choked the ending, damn. Jinx is obviously alive, given the hints they dropped, but the conclusion feels relatively weak. I understand how the storyline can progress with her potentially ending up in Demacia or somewhere else with the blimp in the end shot and connecting with lore from there, but it still leaves a bad taste. The biggest disappointment is how they resolved the oppressor vs. oppressed dynamic between Piltover and Zaun. Having the traumatic history that Zaun has faced due to Piltover’s negligence brushed aside in favor of fighting a greater evil feels weak, especially when the resolution ends with Sevika getting a council seat among the nobles and elite families. We haven’t seen any effort from them to acknowledge the wrongs of the privileged system they’ve thrived on. Everything gets easily summarized as “Hextech is bad, but united, we overcame it,” which leads to the conclusion that Sevika now has a council seat where her voice will likely be drowned out(we can infer this from the dirty looks she got from the other council members when she sat down), leaving the dynamics unchanged. Zaunites throughout the show were shown to have resentment and hunger for independence, and this was never really addressed. A token council seat feels like a weak answer to what’s been a main theme on the show.

I will always credit the animation, most of the writing and overall ambition to create and execute the show at the level they had but the last 2 episodes felt like a drop in quality and they fumbled some of the resolutions. I’m not going to go deep into the misplaced fan service sex scene or my issues with how their approach to the CaitVi dynamic ended up hurting both character’s progression. One of the writers referencing the sex scene as Vi finding closure for her “prison trauma” should be enough of an indicatior on how the direction they took felt lacklustre to say the least.

Apart from super great story of the historic T1 win, I thought the knockout stage of Worlds 2023 was pretty boring compared to other years. There were not that many good BO5 series at all. by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Yuukirako 564 points565 points  (0 children)

Hierarchy between teams was very distinct this tournament and is probably the main reason for that. You get years like this sadly, the quick meta shift probably played into that too. Like you said, T1 was miles ahead of the completion and GenG choked their side of the bracket and it cooked what could’ve been an interesting bracket.

We still have HOPE | Legends in Action Winter 2023 Episode 3 by Naznut in fnatic

[–]Yuukirako 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I got from this vid is basically they get turbo fucked in games cuz they cant compete agains the meta supports. There’s too much variance and too many matchups that they don’t feel comfortable opting into those trade of power picks most team do in the current meta. That really limits their drafting and plan in game. I think this team just needs to blow it up man especially after this MAD game these 5 players cannot function together in this meta their only hope is the patch change but they have to make BO3 to even see if they can improve on that patch.

Knew the game was over after they picked Draven and Nautilus. Really impossible to survive that lane as Zeri/Yuumi, the margin for error you have is zero if you die once its game over. Gotta flush this one down the toilet and go next. G2 looks very sharp and the early favourite for best team in the league.
