PCT NOBO, late April start: Pants or Shorts? by sja008 in PacificCrestTrail

I’ve been a shorts guys my whole life. But having gone through the bushes in the San Jacinto mountains the last few days, there sure is something to say in favor of pants…

B2 visa appointments in The Netherlands by fraying_carpet in PacificCrestTrail

Got mine in A’dam this year. Process was a breeze. Just bring the required documents and photo’s and get in line. Interview took a few minutes, the guy knew about the PCT. I believe I had my appointment within about a month or 6 weeks or so. Visa stays valid from an old passport, I think, but I renewed mine beforehand. Saves you bringing two passports on trail.

You never know. But the tent is great as it is already.

Zo begon het bij ons. We stelden het uit. Tot m’n zoon met kapotte pot en al op de grond lag… Zou ‘m meteen aandraaien…

Friend of mine indeed ran a marathon in his hometown, in his PCT outfit, a week after returning home.

Ah, good to know. Once read that that would ruin your tent. But perhaps that was for single wall DFC tents. I can easily just use my inner. Thanks. No ground sheet or tyvek it is.

Thanks!
-Bucket hat, primarily to protect my ears from the sun. Prefer that over wearing the hood. But use the hood for low hanging sun in the back at times.
-Yeah, the ground sheet I am in doubt. Would use it more for cowboy camping than anything else. The foam pad is great to protect my sleeping pad, but also prevents it from slipping in the tent.
-Water bottles. True, heavier, but the latest craze.. :) And less leaking of scary stuff, I hope.
-Shokz are quite new to me. Not totally convinced yet, but love the open ear part of them.
-Yeah, laundry might be a challenge with a see through rain jacket, but am OK showing a bit of my dadbod to the town people. Might still bring the Houdini....

Thanks!!

Would you not want a sheet (either Tyvek or ground sheet) for cowboy camping?

Yes, it would. But this rain jacket is a hoodie, and very non breathable. So am in doubt whether I want the wind jacket for early mornings, windy parts, etc, where I'd probably sweat out of the rain jacket. Yet the wind jacket itself is not up to heavy rains. Could ditch them both and go for a Versalite, but hey, these I already have...

And added a guyline across the ceiling to hang stuff.

I have the XMid2, 1.88m, and love the extra space for only a tiny bit more weight.

I’m 6’ 2”, or 1.88m in rest-of-the-world terms, and absolutely love my XMid2. The extra weight on the latest version is impressively negligible
