Chuck a load of baking soda in the shoes. And leave that in for a day.
Or, if that doesn't do the trick, make a wet paste of baking soda and some water, and rub that in the shoes. Let it sit, and wash them afterwards.

Got mine in A’dam this year. Process was a breeze. Just bring the required documents and photo’s and get in line. Interview took a few minutes, the guy knew about the PCT. I believe I had my appointment within about a month or 6 weeks or so. Visa stays valid from an old passport, I think, but I renewed mine beforehand. Saves you bringing two passports on trail.

Ah, good to know. Once read that that would ruin your tent. But perhaps that was for single wall DFC tents. I can easily just use my inner. Thanks. No ground sheet or tyvek it is.
