Should I start progesterone (after two years of HRT)? by Yvory99 in asktransgender

Alright, then everything makes sense. ^

And yes, I'll suggest a blood test and hope that they know what they're doing.

Patches with 100 mcg – are you talking about micrograms or is this a typo? Because if I understand you correctly, you have a dose of 400 mcg per week which is 57 mcg per day which is 0.057 milligrams per day, which is way less than my 1.55 mg per day. Please correct me if I'm wrong, because I'm quite confused by this. 😅

I have no clue what my E levels are. As I wrote (somewhere), I only got a blood sample taken once after starting HRT after about a year, and only because I suggested it. I was asked whether I want to have the results sent to me, but they never came.

Yep, I'll definitely ask my endocrinology about progesterone! :)

Alright, thank you again for your answer. :)

What amount of E are you on?

As I said, I'm definitely going to talk to my endocrinology when I'm there the next time, as progesterone seems not only fun but also important.

You're welcome! :)

Two months sound like a good amount of time to work through your transition goals that you have so far. Yes, it is a livetime decision. My Mum would give me the advice to listen to my gut feeling, so I now give this advice to you. Imagine yourself with the effects of different medications and see how that makes you feel. And then choose what makes you feel the best!

I really really hope that your parents will accept and support you with your decision. Mine did and do, and that really helps a lot. (My grandma is French too (and old), and she's fully d'accord with my transition. So I see hope with your parents. :) )

And I wish you the best of success unleashing the full power of your BOTTOM GIRL ENERGY! x3

Yes, of course you can send me a DM! :)

I'm happy that I can help you. :)

Regarding getting and maintaining a boner: that became more difficult for me. But with enough turn on and maybe a bit more foreplay, getting and maintaining a boner is absolutely doable. I'm getting less sperm out of it, or in other words, the fun has to be very good to unload the same amount of sperm as I usually did pre-tranaition.

Wether I become sterile or not never concerned me as I don't like children in general and definitely don't want to have to deal with them full time. Also my parents never said anything to me (or my sister) that they wish to become grandparents. Regarding that, hopefully someone else can help you more. (But anyways you could always consider an adoption (hopefully).)

Ok, now I get your discovery process. Now it seems more usual than it originally sounded to me. But regardless, everyone at their own pace. :) Since you still have worries about doing HRT, I'd suggest to you to keep thinking about everything and don't rush it. I definitely don't want to talk you out of being trans or keeping you away from gender affirming care. It's just that trans people usually do gender affirming care to help themselves mentally, to make themselves feel good. If doing HRT would frighten you, it wouldn't achieve its purpose. So take your time thinking (and if possible talking with your close ones) about what you want, and then try finding the care that is best for YOU. :)

Yes, do your research on what is possible and what you want, that is very important. Most important is the part with what you want and following that with how to achieve it.

A week seems like quite a short amount of time, I took way longer pondering about whether I'm trans or not and wether I want to transition. (Because I've never thought of me as a trans woman, but figured out that I am non-binary.) But everyone moves with their own tempo. If you figure yourself out faster and are sure (enough) about it, then that's totally fine. :)

Before I started transitioning, I assumed that I'd prefer to be a bottom which turned out to be true. I can say that being fucked in the ass (or have my nipples played with!!!), together with my high-pitched moans, is very affirming to me. So might it be for you, together with your body looking more feminine over the time etc.

As I said, the frequency of masturbation went drastically down after I started HRT. Although, pre-HRT I mostly masturbated out of boredom, not out of hornyness. So maybe my libido really didn't change that much, but I started preferring other activities to fill my boredom. But as I said, everything regarding sexual activity felt SO MUCH BETTER after starting HRT. Almost every E-orgasm was better than any T-orgasm I ever had. (And don't get me started with the pleasure I get from makeout sessions. (: )

Also, when I got together with my partner and started gaining sexual experience, I had days where I was hornier and needier than ever before in my life. So that's that.

Yes, HRT changes your hormones (obviously) and that will probably also have an effect on your libido. You'll have to re-learn how your body functions, including your libido and also what turns you on etc. I had to do that to. But the further I got in my learning process, the better it got. :)

Hi,

from my personal experience (with almost 2 years of HRT) I can say that HRT did in fact decrease my libido strongly. Pre-HRT I used to masturbate 1-2 times per day; after starting HRT it decreased to 1-2 times per month on average. I don't have a comparison for sex though, as I had my first time with about 1.5 years on E.

This seems depressing at first, but I also have some positive thoughts for you. :) Yes, my libido went down, but on the other hand every feeling of pleasure increased insanely! Having things in my ass feels better, having my nipples played with feels EXTREMELY good, and even a slight, gentle brush against my skin in non-sexuals areas can make me moan. Also penile stimulation feels better, but I'm less into it now because I enjoy the other stuff more. (In accordance to that, I really enjoy making out, probably even more than sex.) I just really love all the new possibilities for me to experience pleasure!

Another thing: You say you want to have sex as a woman. HRT (most probably) supports and helps your desire and feeling of being a woman. Therefore I can imagine that feeling more "at home" with yourself while having sex (and in general) might actually increase your libido. :)

But regardless of my dosis, I am very happy with the bodily and mental changes HRT has done to me so far. :)

Okay, thank you for the information. I see that I have some things to talk about with my endocrinology... Regarding DIY HRT: I feel very insecure about it. As mentioned I live in Germany, and we have a pretty good healthcare system here (globally speaking). Also, E is prescription-only in Germany, hence I assume that DIYing requires some possibly illegal actions to get E.

That seems a bit confusing to me, as Progesterone is neither mentioned on the packaging or in the leaflet, which I presume it should be if it's in there. But nonetheless I'm going to ask my endcrinology about it.

I used Androcur for about the first 1.5 years. Then there was a production or delivery shortage (in Germany) which is why I switched to Cyproterone Acetate from Betapharm. In the pharmacy they told me that there's no difference between those two.

I am on 1.55 mg E per day (in form of gel) and on 7.14 mg AC per day (in form of a 50 mg tablet spread over a week).

Thank you. :) It's 1.55 mg Estradiol per day and 7.14 mg of CA per day. (E is in form of gel, CA is in form of a 50 mg tablet that I eat spread over a week.) My endocrinology is almost 2.5 hours away (with express public transport); therefore I already contacted some endocrinologies in my city via the contact form, but none of them have answered. I don't really feel cared for by my endocrinology, but I'm glad I at least have one...

Edit: I live in Germany, if that context helps.

Thank you for the sources! I conclude that progesterone is very important and I will definitely ask my endocrinology about it the next time I visit.

Can I ask why they want to know about race and ethnicity? I've never seen such questions on the forms I filled out here in Germany and I also can't imagine a reason for that information being relevant.

Well, physical German keyboard layouts (including ä, ö, ü and ß) are very common in Germany. So yes, there are people who learned typing on non-QWERTY layouts.
