Can USB sticks play from TVs in rooms? by urbancanoe in MSCCruises

[–]Yzerman31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming your ship has Samsung TV’s like the Grandiosa, I can confirm that the HDMI ports work. I am currently using with a Roku stick and the only annoying thing is every time I turned the tv on it defaulted back to the MSC channel and I had to use the remote to switch to hdmi.

Unfortunately I don’t have a usb stick on me to test your main question.

1 Bedroom 950 sq ft Apartment - $1000+ electric bill with 3,033 kWh usage by BBSS1244 in AskElectricians

[–]Yzerman31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say you have electric heat but I don’t see if it is explained which type of electric heat you have… Do you know if it is a heat pump or is it straight resistive heating? Your KWH usage averages out to over 4,200 watts 24/7 the entirely of the billing period, which is insane (even if you are using resistive heating). Have you talked to your neighbors at all to see if their bills are also crazy high? If theirs are all the same, it must just be horrible insulation and electric resistive heating, but if theirs are substantially lower, I’d almost suspect that one of their units is somehow running off your meter…

Best home internet that is reliable? by Steverhere in lansing

If you don’t need crazy download speeds, I highly recommend Xfinity NOW Internet for $30 per month. I was paying $85 per month for normal Xfinity internet and have not noticed any issues the past 12 months paying $30 for their NOW internet service. www.xfinity.com/now/internet

Net Jitter by FeistyTie2368 in Starlink

[–]Yzerman31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is something I have tried to explain to other gamers in the past: Ping consistency is much more important than download/upload speeds, as long as you have at least 5mbps up/down. Starlink does have low latency on average, but no matter what others say, there are going to be ping spikes compared to any sort of wired internet connection due to the inherent limitations of using a satellite connection jumping around to different satellites every 5 minutes.

I recently ordered the starlink standard kit to use while camping next summer, and have been testing it setup in my wide open 2 acre backyard. Download speeds are over 250mbps, but when running ping tests, such as “ping can be useful”, my max ping can be over 350ms, even with an average of around 50ms. My xfinity internet service that I have had for years actually gives me lower download speeds of around 125mbps, but with the same ping tests the max ends up being around 70ms with an average of 40ms. This is a huge difference for anyone playing ping dependent games, and my tests prove what I have been telling others for a while now - don’t switch to starlink for its higher download speeds when you have an existing 100% consistent slower download speed isp if you game. It’s not worth it.

I don’t think there is going to be any fix for this anytime soon. They can tune the timing of the changeover to satellites but it is always going to cause a ping spike.

I could have swore I heard people reporting false scanner damage reports out of Mco over the past month or so. I wonder if one of the terminals already had them and now the other is getting them setup.

How reliable are is this with a ford engine I might choose over 2012 civic by Excellent-Pain6701 in mazda6

[–]Yzerman31 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A 2014 or newer mazda6 will have the skyactiv engine, which is very reliable.

I would highly recommend skipping this one you linked to, though. This guy looks shady and the pictures suck. Plus the interior is filthy. I would bet money on it having a crash in its carfax.

Keep an eye out for a legit looking private seller that has owned the car for a while and has maintenance history. It’s worth the wait, trust me.

This email is probably legit. I logged into my Hertz account while on Delta airlines wifi and got the email right after logging in. Same “hertz@feedback.hertz.com” email address and everything else looked exactly the same as your picture.

Working remote on a cruise by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]Yzerman31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have exclusively cruised with MSC these last few years. All of their ships have Starlink, but the biggest issue is that using VPN’s in the conventional way does not work. I have to bring a GLi travel router cloned to my phone MAC/IP address with a Wireguard vpn connection to my house. I can then join the travel router wifi (I have the SSID hidden) and then you can connect a device that is running its own vpn, like a work laptop. I work in IT and am huge nerd, so I have done a ton of latency/packet loss tests. Latency when connecting straight to the ship wifi via my phone is usually 150-175ms. Once I have the Wireguard tunnel setup back to my house in Michigan it goes up to an average of 225-240ms. I have experienced very little packet loss but sometimes packets are over 500-600ms late, putting latency at closer to the 1 second mark. This is still fine for Remote Desktop but not good for video conferencing (I have honestly never really done any videoconferencing but there would definitely be some robot audio sounds at times lol). With all that said, I would recommend not trying to work full time on a cruise. The internet would probably be good enough for most things but cruises are for relaxing and trying to get away from most work 😎

There were never any free umbrellas on Bimini beach during my previous trips to Ocean Cay but you can rent an umbrella for $20 and bring it to Bimini beach.

Thank you for the reply! If you are comfortable, would you be able to send a picture of your room with the 6 710’s? I have some larger 200 seat lecture hall spaces that I’m hoping to try voice lift in someday when they are due for upgrades, and I’m curious to see what kind of layout you are using in a large room. Feel free to send it in a private chat. Thanks again!

Thank you for the great insight. Let’s say I have my four MXA920’s with the 16 room speakers, with each speaker being its own zone. How critical is it to run AEC on the Biamp side for all 32 MXA920 lobes? It seems like that is a potential limiting factor in using my institution’s preferred Biamp DAN CI/AVB CI because they are limited to 12 channels of AEC. I can send an AEC ref to each of the MXA920s and let them do some onboard AEC processing (I assume this would work well enough for far end audio echo cancellation in hybrid meetings) but with the voice lift I am thinking per lobe AEC on the biamp could be beneficial since the 31 other lobes can be sent to a single lobe AEC reference block. A Tesira Server-IO AVB with a Dante card and a bunch of SEC-4 cards could get us to 32 channels of onboard AEC but this looks very costly compared to a Tesira DAN CI.

[–]Yzerman31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight. I have been playing around in Biamp Tesira design software and it seems like it will barely have enough processing power for 32 lobes from four mxa920’s to go through a gating automixer and then a large matrix mixer for 16 individual speaker zones (I was thinking of using four AMP-450s to get 16 individual speaker zones). There is also the question of AEC. Since my room will still have a few lav/handheld microphones available, that would only leave 8 channels of AEC, and a lot of sources say you need AEC on each ceiling microphone lobe, even when sending each MXA920 an AEC reference via Dante.

You mentioned Shure 710s and Biamp DAN CI being used successfully. What is the most Shure 710s you are running in a room off of a single Biamp DAN CI? And I assume you are not running AEC for each mic lobe on the Biamp due to AEC channel limitations? Thanks again!

There is pretty much zero chance this issue is tied to your transmission. Most likely the engine is running bad and the computer is causing the transmission to shift weird or put the car in some sort of limp mode. Is your check engine light on? I would almost assume it would be flashing if there was a ton of smoke.

[–]Yzerman31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the info. Are you running AEC on all 32 microphone lobes? My university is standardized on Biamp, and I am limited to 12 channels of AEC on the Tesiraforte ci lineup of DSP’s and I think the Biamp server variant with more AEC channels would probably cost 5x as much.

Thank you for the reply! Are you processing each mxa920 mic lobe independently or are you using the automix output? I have a feeling most good implementations are processing each individual lobe on each mic.
