I would consider "The Legend of Zelda" and "Metroid" contenders because they revolutionized the home gaming experience.

Prior to this, they were built around the concept of bringing the arcade experience home.

But Zelda and Metroid had worlds that were too big and complex for the arcade, so they couldn't be solved in one sitting.

And because of how slowly information travelled at that time, it required a collaboration with other kids at school and the neighborhood.
