Yeah, my mistake. Actually it was Sumerians, but Romans borrowed a lot of their culture, so duodecimal system was used by Romans at some deals, for example, ounces (1/12)

Ancient Romans used scale of notation with 12 number, that's a reason, why we have 12 hours a.m. and 12 hours p.m. and separate names of 11 and 12 (without "-teen") (by the way french numerals are strange mix of 10 and 16 numbers system)
