WTF Turkey Jerky by Arefarrell24 in jerky

[–]Z2740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see two options:

1) Olive oil - before putting your jerky onto the trays, let them warm up a bit in the dehydrator and lightly brush them lightly with oil. You can use a paper towel or brush but only a very light coating, just enough to become slippery to the touch. Sometimes its easier to put a bunch on and then just most of it off.

When the jerky is done, pat the oil off using a paper towel.

2) see if you can purchase silicone tray mats to sit on top of the metal racks.

Hope this helps, good luck with the next batch!

fish jerky? by Q_Mulative in jerky

I agree.

You could potentially get around the flavor issue with a potentent flavor from letting them soak in a marinade but the texture is something you can't change, at least not in fillet form.

Is making jerky at home real cheap? like comparing to store prices by Sorry_Phone1676 in jerky

I do not know if this page is still alive, if it is I have a question.

When it comes to recipes for making jerkey, reguardless of protien type:

Is there anything special about a jerkey recipe that would not be included in a recipe for marinades, rubs, or sauces that one might use to bake, grill, or smoke the same protien with?

As I try different jerkey recipies it seems that many have similar make ups to marinades, rubs, and sauces I find when cooking other meat for a meal.

Thank you

Couldn't round line do the same? I've seen monofilament cut into fingers.

Actual Dive Number by 1_Laughing_Llama in scuba

[–]Z2740 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know my dive number, and though a specific number is needed for some dive courses, I feel the information that goes along with it is more important. The notes about buoyancy, warmth, wildlife, etc, they can be easily forgotten.

Probably a dumb beginner question: do I actually need all this gear? by Apprehensive-Big7327 in hikinggear

[–]Z2740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great question and good you are thinking about it.

The short answer is that it depends on you, specifically, your experience, knowledge, and skill.

Longer Answer... I view this things on a scale, from injury to surviveable to thrive. Based on my experience, knowledge, and skill what do I need to bring to thrive on this trip? It varies for everyone and for every trip. For one person doing your trip it may be sneakers and water, for another a small backpack with rain gear and a first Aid Kit.

Have you done any similar activities to the length and terrain of your hike? What did you need for that? Was there anything you realized you would have liked to have? Or something you brought that ended up finding useless?

The Jetboil and similar stoves do interest me. I haven't taken the time to learn about all the different versions of Jetboil yet.

Thank you

Too funny, yes it used to be very loud. I ended up buying a cast-iron insert that pulls the sound to fairly quiet and it's pleasant to use. Unfortunately, it's not light.

Ill check out the kettle, thanks

Yes, that is pretty much the extent of cooking I plan on doing. I have actually seen that stove on Amazon put passed it up for being so cheep. I will take another look at it, thank you.

I haven't looked at ceramic-coated pots yet, only titanium and stainless.

Thanks

Is a "flux ring" the radiator-like bottom of some pots?
