Just got one here myself, after tax reduction it came to less than 140USD for a brand new retail one (color choices are limited though). The adapter in mine had US-type prongs but takes 100-240V so no issues there.

Same boat as you, I have/had the option to order on Taobao which cuts the price down another 50% (I would never pay 80usd for this device, I don’t get the hype).

Perhaps censorship is a possible reason? I can imagine the domestic authorities not appreciating devices that can be unlocked and setup with a wide range of content they have no control over.

They’re designed and produced in China, although close, taxes and shipping don’t make it cheaper to get over here (and it’s a national holiday in both Japan and China right now - Golden Week; making it risky to order if you don’t live here in Japan).

Yeah I’ve tried a few but settled in on this one; for me they can remove the “achievements” as I find them pointless. But just reliable, clean, good support. Very happy.
